As a Liverpool supporter, while I'm not prepared to completely write off Mane as finished, one thing a lot of people aren't talking about is that he has been on the decline for a couple of years now. His form was going on a downward trajectory well before he left Liverpool
He had a very bad run of form during the 20/21 season, which he's said was the worst of his career so far. He had a good run of form post AFCON last year but he had to be played centrally instead of the left wing like he had been played in previous years and even then, he wasn't reaching the same heights he hit from 2017-2020
I'm not sure if he'll be able to turn things around at Bayern Munich, especially after the Sane incident, but I hope he can turn his career around. Even if he's on the wrong side of 30, he is still a world class player and coming from a Liverpool fan, he's always been very respectful towards the fans. It's a shame to see him like this

Hey, I'm a Bayern fan and I think I can point out a couple things that ended up going wrong this season.
First he was brought in to be more of a 9 than a winger as we already had 3 very solid wingers. The team and Nagelsmanns system didn't fit his style of play, which led him to have no real positional direction. Trying to replace a tall, strong, high level finisher with a converted winger just doesn't work. I will say if he was able to stay onside he would be the leading goalscorer in the leauge.
Another is the injury before the world cup. He's just isn't able to play at the level Bayern want. His speed is gone, his touch has been terrible and watching him play is kinda just waiting for a mistake.
I don't think he has the mentality of a Bayern player, which does surprise me. He gets frustrated easily by physical play, quits early on attacking moves and seems to complain a lot. When you look at the leaders of the team like Muller, Kimmich, Davies and DeLigt they all go 100% for 90 min and are continually pushing their teammates during the game. Every team plays a low block against Bayern which can take a long time to finally break down and it just doesn't seem like he's up for it most games.
I hope the situation can be resolved, but I think moving him and clearing the wages for an elite 9 is the best solution.

But to lose your place on a player who just come in January says alot. I wont lie and say i don't want him to stay but he decided to leave so understandable. What i don't get is his fans(not Liverpool fans who watch him week in week out) that keep on saying Liverpool's downfall is due to Mane leaving. As far as im concerned Sadio didn't play in midfield and defence so that doesn't even make sense in the first place.

Mané was always an odd choice for Bayern. The team needed a classic #9 to offset losing Lewandowski but found precious few strikers on the market who they could have gotten (no way was Haaland going to Bayern).
Personally I would have thought somebody like Isak would have been as close to perfect as he has the size, speed and skill to become featured on their 1st team but it would have been a big leap of faith for them to pull the trigger on him.
So they went with Mané who had been an elite winger on some of the best teams of the last decade. Problem was, his game has always relied on speed and at 31 he was slowing down. Not to mention his recent injury history. Players like him dont get better with age.
He's a great player, no doubt and early on he looked fantastic but then he kept getting these little dings. Plus he played a very tough international schedule in the African Cup instead of getting some much needed rest.
He looked like a completely different player by the time the New Year began. Tentative, unable to contribute and Bayern s@#$ the bed in a bad way.
I don't blame Mané I just dont think Bayern found the right guy as Mane and Lewandowski are far different players.

    • @alexschwallz1954
      @alexschwallz1954 Před rokem +1

We can put that blame on Naggelsman choices. Naggelsman did not wanted a classic 9, he wanted something like Julian Álvarez... a number 9 that can make a pressure on the rival during the entire match and make those running between full backs and center backs and be good passing and controlling the ball. So thats the reason he wanted Sadio so much, but Bayern was not made to play without a classic 9.

@@alexschwallz1954 you know, I never thought of it that way regarding Nagelsmann never playing with a classic #9 but when I look back it's been staring me back in my face without me noticing for a while now.
Timo Werner was about as close to a classic #9 as Nagelsman ever played before even if Werner was more of a classic poacher/pressing forward who needed to play next to a Poulson rather than a Lewandowski type.
In fact Poulson was probably the closest thing to a perfect striker in a Nagelsman system. Tall, big and strong who was great at winning the ball back and making quick passes to teammates.
I'm not saying Haaland couldn't perform that role for Nagelsman but why would he when he's really there to put the ball in the back of the net.

Liverpool did a great job bringing those two together.
i think Mane unfortunately became slightly underrated due to playing with Salah who was a more superior goalscorer, but Mane was the better playmaker in my personal opinion.
Edit: I`m not saying that Mane is better then Salah, because quite frankly he isn`t. Just that he was very important for the way that Liverpool used to attack. Mane due to his effectiveness gave Firmino and Salah a lot of space.

I think the same could be said of Sane. It's like he lost his pace when he got injured, which seems like something Pep already knew. Similar to Son at Tottenham. 30yr old wingers are very hard to gauage, especially in high-pressing teams. Mane has to reinvent himself or move to Italy. The problem with Mane at Bayern is Muller. Muller occupies the space Mane is better suited. Additionally Gnabry is a younger version of Mane so he's the automatic starter. I think Mane needs to move to Italy where the brain is required more than the athleticism, hence Giroud still excelling.

The thing is Mane was like this for a long time at Liverpool as well in his last 2 seasons till the last 6 months. What made Mane so good for so many years was his Pace, strength and stamina, now those qualities are slowly declining which is why in his last six months at Liverpool Klopp eventually had to change the system for him to play as a false 9 then he was able to find a lot of success in that position. I don't know what Bayern are playing him as i don't watch them but if it requires a lot of energy Mane is not their man. As a Liverpool fan even tho i wouldn't take him back because we have to move forward i still miss him. He was top player when our team was on top and when our team was underpressure was a clutch player. With Bayern, as a fan, his attitude is worst than his performances, I don't care if he doesn't score or whatever, but everytime he plays he looks as if he was doing everyone a favour and his body language is annoyng probably even to his teammates. He has become exactly the type of player you don't want in your team, overpaid, underperforming, and a nuisance to his teammates and manager.
It was not the correct signing for Bayern from any angle and they basically wasted what they earned from Lewandowski's transfer...which could have been very useful this season that the squad is desperate for a striker and all available options are at least 100M euros.

With Mane it looks like Bayern just tried to get a rather affordable star striker. I expected Mane to score 15 to 20 goals in the bundesliga. You can see it's hard to score a lot of goals in the Bundesliga and all those past top goal scorere also managed to score the same or more goals in the PL or La Liga (Lewandoski, Haaland, Aubameyang).

As a Liverpool fan, i would say attacking wise Mané seemed to already be falling abit of before we sold him, and i feel like, when things werent going his way on the pitch he would get frustrated and maybe try abit to much. He made up for it by being a great team mate and fight with 100% every match and he was very good at winning the ball back. If bayern needed at player like that, he would have been a perfect fit, and if he stayed in Liverpool he would have probably got his form back. But Bayern tried to replace a goal scorer with a fighter on the wing. It was like casting Jim Parsons to play Rocky. I think everybody can loose their temper if enough things in your life aren't going like you want it, it doesnt have to be something major. also it was just a little bust up, that can happen in sport also with teammates. Bayern and the fans might have expected too much from Mane in terms of goalscoring. They weren't getting a Louis Suarez. Mane scored between 10 and 20 league goals most seasons for Liverpool. He was a solid secondary/supporting striker who was a fantastic counter-attacker and contributed a lot to the team. If you allow for a bit of a dip in the first season while settling in (see Messi at PSG), there was no real reason to worry about his goaslcoring. I feel like some of these dominant clubs in other leagues buy Liverpool players on their reputation and then almost expect too much too soon.

Sadio Mane doesn't just become a bad player overnight there has to be many factors as to why he's a shadow of his former self this season at Bayern Munich. This was a big move for him and Bayern because they were getting a player who's been one of the best players in the premier league for many seasons considering his exploits at Liverpool for 6 seasons, his form, goals, and all around game contributed to Liverpool's success under Jurgen Klopp and when he made that move to Bayern Munich, there were big expectations on his shoulders to deliver. He started off well in October, he was already in double digits in terms of goals, and after that injury where he missed the World Cup, he's been nowhere near his best. He's lacking confidence, he doesn't score goals anymore, he's on the ball doesn't take on players, and it's not just his performances that have disappointed the neutrals, he himself has become a problem in the Bayern Munich dressing room and is a distraction at the football club right now. 2 months ago after a game, he was angry at Julian Nagelsmann for being dropped during a game and had that confrontation with his manager in front of his teammates in the dressing room. Last month after the City game in the dressing room, he punched Leroy Sane and as a result of that incident, he was suspended for a game and Bayern fined him after that. Sadio Mane in a span of 18 months went from untouchable, first name on the team sheet with Liverpool to benchwarmer and someone this good of a player, it's a tough period. Now, they want to get rid of him as he's a bad apple in the dressing room and he isn't in Thomas Tuchel's plans. Good luck with that because he's on a big salary and I don't see them selling him. Even though it's been a tough season for him, I doubt that Sadio Mane can rediscover his Liverpool form he's on the wrong side of 30 and considering the poor season he's had, some of us can expect his performances to continue to show signs of decline and it'll be tough for him to get back to that previous level.

Good video! as a LFC fan who has watched almost all their games with Mane as part of THAT front 3 I can see why the move has not worked as well as Bayern were expecting. Maybe he is just not as consistently explosive or relentless as he was two or three years ago? however I think the main reason is he just better suited to a transitional game and he won't get that at Bayern. He is also best off the left not as a number 9, so if Bayern were looking to replace Lewandowski with Mane its no wonder it has failed. How can he build confidence if the recruitment is flawed? Saying that, given the right player at 9 (like a Kane) recruited this summer then you will see the real Mane shine at Bayern, and I really hope it happens for him there.

As a liverpool fan who watched every single Mane game at the club for a few seasons I have to say I’m not surprised by the decline.
Mane peaked in our title winning season. Since then something happened and he wasn’t the same since. Maybe it was the hamstring injury or something else. He just wasn’t the same. The quality in front of goal was still there but there was always something he couldn’t pull off time and time again.
during the covid season when we had everyone injured his bad runs of form could be attributed to the team not firing on all cylinders. In his last season when we almost won everything something was just not quite right. As a wide player you’d find him trying to take on someone an entire match and it just wasn’t working out. The goals where there and when they were not Salah was in the form of his life pampering over the cracks.
His move to a false nine position helped a lot. He didn’t have to rely on his athleticism as much which wasn’t the same. All he had to do was link up play and boy did he do it well. This new Mane was bliss but when he announced his departure it felt right.
The mane we’d remember is the one who dragged us to the champions league final and pushing for all the titles all the way. His legacy wouldn’t be the wide forward trying stuff while it’s not just working out.
If Bayern were expecting the explosive winger who brought terror to every defender and not the false 9 who was the closest thing we had to firmino they were in for a surprise. The injury probably didn’t for him and the club to figure out his place. But the decline isn’t a surprise.
He’s still a quality player and no doubt he’ll be vital for Bayern soon but he’s not the same player he was at his peak and Bayern should figure out a role that suits his current offfering
