If you knew the merc was going to overtake (no idea if you looked behind to see) would you consider changing your position to go into the gap between the cars on your left to get more space and reduce the risks?
They shouldn't have needed to. The other two drivers were able to make a decision and overtake with adequate room. The Merc should have identified the fact the road was closing in width and not followed.
@@K3end0 yes they shouldnt, the merc is fully to blame, but we know lots of drivers make mistakes and bad judgements, your safety is in your hands. I am not saying the cyclist had to, but if they observed and though a close pass was about to happen should they and could they have nipped into the gap to reduce the risk from the bad driver?
@@douglasreid699 it further encourages close passes and by the time you get to the end of the gap you can’t get back onto the road as other vehicles have been encouraged to pass and won’t be giving you space - you wouldn’t do it if you were driving, don’t expect other road users to do it It is incumbent on the overtaking vehicle to do so safely and they are required to give at least 1.5m. HWC 163 tells you exactly how to do it, and even includes a picture for those who struggle It’s so easy to drive safely around people in bikes. I can do it, why can’t you?
