I'm seeing a lot of people in the comments arguing for or against some stratagems. I think this goes to show how amazing this game is! Seems like different stratagems can be better or worse depending on your party or playstyle.
autocannon is the swiss army knife of stratagems, does everything, crowd control, single target, spore towers, shrieker nests, chargers, bug holes, etc. It takes a backpack slot but that is negated imo because it comes with so much ammo. The only issue it has is it doesn't have and answer for bile titans. If I had to choose a stratagem weapon to use for the rest of my life it would be the autocannon. Putting it under grenade launcher is criminal.
Seriously, this guy is a moron and I stopped watching this video.
Can't say I agree with laser guard dog and shield.
Laser guard dog is absolutely an S tier for bugs. Thing is you never know which enemy spawns you roll, you can have billion hunters and next to none titans, and other way around the next mission, on the same planet. Now guard dog is way better than shield in the situations where there is ton of fodder that needs to be removed. If the fodder isn't present in large quantities, you don't really need the rover, but you don't need the shield either because attacks from big enemies are usually slow and can be dodged, you don't get swarmed. Laser guard dog is a safer pick in my opinion, and if you run around with Slugger, you don't want to waste your time on the small bugs, you can almost ignore their existence when the rover has your back. Shield feels like a way to delay your problems, laser guard dog is solving them.
Shield is A, maybe even B tier. S tier for Automatons though, because it saves you from rockets.
Also EMS mortar and Tesla tower absolutely trivialised the terminicide tower missions, A tier for both, in specific scenarios they are top tier.
Guard dogs get you kicked in higher difficulties because it aggros enemies even if you don't want it.
@@JoeZocktGames hasn't happened to me, more often then not i see other people bringing them too.
Gatling got badly underrated. It's actually pretty great for shutting down bug breaches. Perfect focused AoE and decent duration for handling most of what comes out.
You haven’t seen a bile titan spawn out of one then lol
@@Soihgee Even at top difficulty, MOST of what comes out is hunters and warriors and lightweight shit, with a few big boys besides. If you're mostly getting Bile titans, you're suffering some anomaly.
Only drawback to gatlings is when they shoot through while trying to shoot the bugs. Otherwise they are fantastic. They are a great way to clear out pursuers and chaff.
Drop gas on a bug breach and watch as it climbs to 20+ kills in moments or more in helldive. All you need then is to finish of the half dead medium enemies and chuckle at the hunters that couldnt escape in time while at rips apart any big bois. Also the gas is godly on planets with choke points you can shut down a whole hoard with it its like the Stasis weapons its a power multiplier its just less obvious like most other DOT weapons an easy second example would be the eagle napalm which is very effective for covering multiple bug breach points and zoning in more open maps to get space from enemies. In my eyes allot of these stratagems are higher tier if anything the list in my head is much more top loaded but that may just be my comfort in picking and using the weapons for the right world/sitiation/task at hand.
@@Madcowdiseiz My bad, I meant the Orbital Gatling. But gatling turret isn't bad either.
Auto cannon can also break nests so I think it deserves a tier. While it has a backpack it can kill chargers and more ammo than gernade launcher
Thing is, a lot of stratagems get better or worse depending not only on the faction you're going against, but also the mission type. This Tier list seems centered around the long form missions that last 40 minutes and demand you to clear a bunch of objectives on a large map and sustain the squad with supplies throughout. The math changes in blitz missions and eradicate missions. Or Civilian escort missions. Any map that requires you to stand your ground against virtually constant enemy pressure is going to make sentries shine a lot more, especially if everyone brings a few. 1 autocannon on a large map where you've got to be moving on from one area to the next at all times is pointless. 4 autocannon turrets positioned to cover choke points in a short form eradication mission, supported by a couple of EMS mortars, gatling sentries and players who do everything in their power to keep all of them alive can have a dramatic and much more sustained impact than EATs dropping in every 70 seconds (Although I would argue the EATs would make a fine addition to such a run.)
Highly disagree with Laser Cannon. It is, at minimum, a B-Tier.
1.) Laser cannon got a massive buff a while ago. It has medium-armor penetration and increased handling.
2.) It fulfills the same role as the machine gun, on top of having a range of 200m and being hitscan, allowing it to be the single most effective weapon against shriekers and their nests. It melts shriekers near instantly and their nests in 1.5 charges.
3.) Its tradeoff to the machine gun is that it struggles more against trash mobs, in return for massive ammo efficiency.
I feel like it could be A tier even, if you pair it with the sickle and heat juggle them you have infinite ammo where you target light bugs with the sickle and with the laser cannon you target bile spewers, brood commanders, hive guards etc the DPS is crazy, you can also kill chargers with half a laser cannon charge if you target their back leg after they fail a charge. IMO the reason people think laser cannon is trash is because they use it to kill light bugs which isn't what it's made for
Hard disagree with the flamethrower, I solo Helldive with it because it's a godsend against chargers and armored enemies. Best support weapon and you have a shit ton of fuel for it.
Always think it's a weird flex, saying you play a team game, solo
Valid flex, soloing a team game is obviously a feat
The laser cannon is S tier. It’s a precision weapon that can kill heavy targets with ease. For the bugs you focus heavy targets and shoot them in the head. Shrieker nest? No problem laser it down from 200m! For Titan you can shoot the sack from far away and finish with a strike. For other bugs they die within 1,2 or 3 seconds depending on sort of bug. The best thing is you can start blasting from 200 m away. They don’t stand a chance. Combine it with a jetpack or rover. Jetpack for rocky maps where you can get on rocks where bugs can’t reach you. You can melt everything with your laser cannon from that spot. With bots you just shoot the red lights. Hulks, devestators? No problem. Melt hulk his weapon of or his leg, make him useless from far. Tower cannon, tanks? No problem hit the weakspots for 2 sec! The weapon is “silenced” has unlimited ammo, no recoil, epic range.
Auto-Cannon sentry is an easy A-S tier for me. I understand the targeting system can be buggy sometimes, but when it works (most of the time for me) it dominates. I always run one and placement is KEY. The extra 50% ammo from the research paired with the shorter cooldown allows you to have it ready in time by the next encounter
I see a lot of ways to upgrade the flamethrower. Augmenting the range is one of them, adding a stun effect on burning bugs would be another way. Oh and adding an armor with fire damage resistance (kinda like the arc resistance armor) would be so fun too.
Fire resistance is desperately needed. It’s like my Helldiver covered himself in lighter fluid before dropping in I swear
I have to disagree on the orbital Airburst, I argue it is A if not S tier
It's probably the most reliable crowdcontroll airburst, and while yes, it stays out for so long, but that is why it is so good.
You can clear out a bunch of termites and the breach they called in sometimes in 1 swipe whiteout shooting a single time yourself.
Airbutst is basically what mines dream to be. A long lasting areal deny strategy that kills everything that isn't a charger to titan.
and sure, the cooldown isn't the fastest, it is quick enough for you to basically always have it on hand when you need it.
Awesome video. For bugs I usually always use the guard dog because it protects me from all the small bugs that I don't need to shoot at. For me that's an S tier. Then for strategems, I use 500k or eagle strike, and go for orbital railgun because it has a high chance to taking out bile titans. the last slot is always tricky because I need to take out the chargers reliably without losing guard dog. Today with the release of the new Quasar cannon, I finally have my perfect build because it doesn't take a backpack slot.
For short 12 min missions, I have a different build mostly because we die a lot so I often pick the 500k or eagle strike, EMS mortar, autocanon turret or rocket turret, and disposable launchers. This way I am not running around trying to find my weapons or guard dog every single time I die.
I been saying the same thing about the Grenade Launcher vs the Stalwart/Machine Gun. GL kills faster and more efficiently but you lose options if they get close and that's what bugs are all about. A good change that would provide a use to the MGs is to add a suppression effect like they do for bots (That's really all ballistics, but I digress). MGs will throw off bots' aim, and bugs don't need aim obviously. However, if it forced a slowdown of the bugs' advance by shooting at them then they would have a functional use over the GL. This gives it a role in crowd control (and for the big MG med-armor penetration) until Chargers come into play and force you to move as they should.
You helped me to get a good overview of all the strategems, so thank you very much.
Glad to hear it!
Napalm airstrike is horribly underrated against the terminids that it's criminal.
It was really bad before they tweaked fire damage, which was after I made this video
bro is not using the same laser cannon I've been using.
Don't you find it takes waaaaay too long to kill small bugs? And given the amount of them between you and a tougher target, you can't sustain long enough for it to actually deal damage that's "good".
@@monoespacialit’s not made for crowd control. It’s made to have infinite ammo to take out medium armor enemies.
@@monoespacial it's not for killing small bugs use your primary for that, save it's charge for bile spewers, brood commanders and hiveguards, or laser a charger's backleg after it failed a charge and you will kill it in 2 seconds
Great video. Think team composition is more important plus having fun but otherwise agree. I would say I feel like jet pack has a niche for missions where you need to move hardrives and minimise this time.
/ lmg+jetpack=fun
Got 50 kills on bugs with a napalm it’s OP with the new ship upgrade
Eagle cluster IMO is low A against the bugs. If I see multiple teammates running 500kg or airstrike I will most always run cluster to clear chaff enemies
would probably make even more sense to have the tier list not just differentiating bots and bugs but also difficulties 1-3, 4-6 and 7-9, e.g. cluster bomb, shield backpack etc.
Probably. There's a lot of depth to the discussions that can be had around this.
True. But I would also put the cutoff at 5 because bile titans only show up at 6+ except for special objectives if I’m not mistaken. If there are no bile titans than an autocannon can kill everything on the map for example, making it very useful
Railgun fragging BT with a few shots is a ps5 player bug; it's only possible with a ps5 player in the lobby
thanks for being non biased lmao
Recoiless for me was more of a turn the tide weapon when you have dense waves of enemies as instead of your team running around poping all their AT strategems at once you can consistently and reliably knock out a whole if not most of a wave of tanks and hulks by yourself or faster with a pal because not everyone runs backpacks and ive had people pick up a spare and suddenly ive got twice the ammo and heavy threats become nothing to us. Theres something unique about having 5+ dropships getting blasted out the sky in seconds with an AT team and you can still get half by yourself. Dont get me wrong the EATis a godsend for those oh fuck moments but a recoiless can start the job and see it through in one go and i feel alot of people sleep on that. plus you get way more shots than with EATs which on higher difficulty can be critical when heavy spam occurs. People get too hung up on the reload in my eyes when its ammo economy maks it a powerful roaving weapon for killing heavines and sniping base building/dropships. Easy A/S tier for me along side EAT only real difference for me is EAT is good for after a death its usually availible and the quick two shot kill on some heavies but otherwise recoiless all the way ya dont need a special backpack to squish bugs and spill oil. For this reason i love to mix it up. If i see low AT in my team ill bring the RC and if there is decent AT in the team ill bring EAT and a support pack of some kind. Its all about team balance in the end. God i love this game and how many ways there is to play it.
COMMENT FOR DEMOCRACY
Hey momo, love ur vids, but i disagree with most of the tier list jajaja, i liked the video and the efort though!!!!
Fair enough. Anything specific?
@@monoespacial Dome E, mines F, HMG C, Laser cannon C, Rocket sentry E, precision strike A, gatling sentry low B, rocket pods C, jettpack C Recoiless Rifle A, ammo pack A, Flamethrower high B, stalwart B, orbital lasser D, 500kg S and Eagle airstrike C. Precision strike is just slightly worse than 500kg, and its way better than the orbital railgun, just have to aim it. Also id say u havent mentioned stun nades, i believe they change the playstyle a lot like: sentry only builds are more viable than ever and u can use stun nades to reload slow reloading guns like machine gun or recoiless rifle. Stun nades are great with 110kg and 500kg. As i said, i liked the video and the efort!!!
Why don't you rank the eagle strike higher? What's your go to for nests?
@@monoespacial is not good enough against titans and chargers, hard to land in betwen rock formations makes it nor ideal aswell. I usually avoid most nests (if im solo) if i really need to take one out, i just use both 500kg and precision strike (enough to take 4 hole) and if any left i call in some random stratagem like ammo, sos, backpack... In team comps i might take it though since i dont need to rely on it to take big stuff
Tier lists are mostly unnecessary for this game. Turrets, mines and Tesla shine on defense and TCS missions even without ship upgrades. Still a good watch, always looking for new ideas on how to play the game.
I'm thinking of doing a "loadout ideas" video for bots instead of doing a tier list. What do you think of that?
@@monoespacial Should clarify that tier videos are fine but I think they can stratify strategy in a game and players use it like a crutch.
Loadout ideas would probably be more helpful in getting people to come up with creative solutions. A tier list tends to put weapons in a vacuum. The autocannon for example is S tier for me because of the role it plays in my squad. I'm not a fan of lasers but other players make them work.
Mines should be ranked even lower.
And I think the mortar sentry is better. Has the advantage to hit enemies that are not in sight. So you can put it somewhat under cover so the bugs can't overrun the thing too fast. But yes, you have to make sure to keep distance from the bugs. Depends on the surrounding. If you can keep them away from you, the mortar is quite solid
Mines at least deal SOME damage. I should've put the mortar into D tier, you're right. It's very good if you can make it work and keep the bugs from spawning too close.
Giving these opinions while playing lvl 6 difficulty lmao
I'd say lvl 6 is the "normal" difficulty. The difficulty that most people probably stick around. And as with most guides, I assume this is for the average player who's trying to understand more and get better. I disagree with opinions in here, but lvl 6 is fine
I select footage for the video focusing on relevance and quality, not the specific level. I play difficulties 6-9 depending on my mood and that of my squad.
This man hates everything lol
I was a bit iffy on a couple of points but when you said that a 500kg bomb kills two chargers and railcannon only one, I straight up stopped the video. this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I can't even start to explain how stupid it is.
