    I'm a professional window cleaner and while I don't have any experience in working on automotive glass, I would not recommend using a razor blade that way. Automotive glass is safety glass which is (at least in buildings) made with tempered glass. Tempered glass is VERY easy to scratch with a razor blade! If I were removing the adhesive, I would use a liberal amount of Goo Gone, or something similar to soften the adhesive. For areas that are being stubborn, I would use #0000 steel wool, which is designed to be used on glass surfaces. I would use a length of painter's tape to keep the Goo Gone from dripping down into the door. The heat gun seems to work great on the tint itself, my concern is just about the razor blade usage on the adhesive residue. Thanks for all your great videos; they've helped me out a lot over the years!

      I use a razor blade and a lubricant to clean the windshield when detailing and never had a problem..obviously i always use a new one each car if its an old used blade i can see it being problematic..

      Thank you for that. Sure, this might work, but it’s not the ideal way for many. I cringed watching this. For the average (left side of the bell-curve) person, razor sharp, acute-angled steel tools on a concave glass surface probably isn’t the best technique. Sharp steel edges can, and will, win against glass in the wrong hands. Not, everyone has an attention for detail. This tutorial is a letdown.

      Not true if you use a cheap razor yes it will scratch you must use a quality made blade. This is how every tinter cleans the glass before putting it on as well. I use a scraper blade that way I don't slip

    STEAM MACHINE: if you have a fabric steamer(not a steam iron), I saw a video where that worked better. The penetrating and safe and dissolving moisture and less heat and better results and less left over glue to scrape and much safer for rear windows with defrost wires!
    Take care

    Favorite online auto parts store. Saves me a lot of time shopping online also because the nearest auto parts store is 30 minutes away. I just made a video on replacing a blower motor on my truck. They don’t lie when they say that the part will fit your vehicle. The right parts installed correctly that’s the 1a auto way!!

    Thanks for another great video. Question though: how do you clean off the adhesive from the lower part of the window where some tint may be stuck on before the window frame and therefore not really possible to clean it removing the window? I would like to remove my front door tint to get darker tint installed but I'm afraid that the lower window will be not thoroughly cleaned and therefore the new tint won't properly adhere at the bottom end.

    The whole purpose of the heat gun is to soften the adhesive so the film comes off with the adhesive still attached to the film. If done right, there should be almost no adhesive on the window. This was a complete disaster. Heat gun was probably not used at it’s highest setting.

    If the goal of the heat gun is to loosen glue between the tint and glass, maybe it would be best to heat the glass from the other side so the tint stays cooler and stronger(easier to pull without tearing)?

  • @scottcarr1534

    Use a bottle of dry gas to remove the glue after removal of the tint.
    A clean new shop towel, or cotton wash cloth works well.
    Soak the dry gas liberally onto the cloth, but without it dripping, the dry gas balls up the glue, and removes it quickly without fuss.
    Obviously, tape off the door panel first.

  • @Peter-pv8xx
    @Peter-pv8xx Před měsícem

    A steamer removes the adhesive with the tint film, a razor blade scraper is a lot easier, don't use a razor blade on a rear window unless you don't want your rear defroster to work anymore.

    The easiest way to remove window tint is with an electric space heater. Put it inside the car and crank the heat all the way up for an hour or two depending on the outside temperature. The tint peels right off once you get it started.

  • @cHAOs9
    @cHAOs9 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Why are you heating the finished window/pulled tint? Your heat gun is on the wrong side. You're supposed to heat it BEFORE it comes off.

    sucks that I only have two of the tools & not the heat gun cause I got a '95 Camry (runs & drives) & the rear window has tint on it that is seriously blurry & can't see anything clearly when looking through it but its on the inside of the car, not the outside
    is it still possible to remove it?

    • @KillermanV3
      @KillermanV3 Před 3 lety

      All tint is on the inside so it's possible to remove any tint. Just heat it up, peel it off, and clean the glass if adhesive is left behind. Tint is a film with adhesive that sticks to a window so you can remove any tint. In fact, yours should be removed if it's no longer serving its purpose.

    The sound of that razor against the glass made me cringe, like nails on a chalkboard. I'd think holding the razorblade at a sharper angle would be easier right? Dude's holding it near 90 degree at some points.
    Edit: it's more 45-50 degree to the glass he's scraping. But still, that's too high of an angle in my opinion especially if I'm paying for it.
