    We took this video to show you how to change the oil (do an oil change) on a Vw 2.5 Engine. This Volkswagen engine is used in Beetle, Golf, and Jetta. We demonstrated the oil change on a Vw Beetle but most of the Procedure will be the same for Golf and Jetta.
    It takes 6.3 quarts or 6.0 liters of oil.
    Always change the oil filter and the rubber seal.
    Always remember to tighten the oil plug, the oil filter, and the oil cap before driving the car.
    This procedure will be almost the same for:

    If you remove the cap on the bottom of the oil filter housing there is a valve to drain the oil *before* unscrewing the housing. If you drain using that small valve you avoid spilling oil.

      🗣️ YES a MUST!!! Unscrew bottom cap & Push in nipple with sm. screw driver and to side & catch oil. I used 1/2 half milk bottle. Didn’t drop a drop of oil on ground or hoses! Genius idea! 🤓👍👍👍

      Agreed but you can pretty much get away with any full synthetic. Using straight conventional? Insane

    Great info and great video. I would take off your ring while working though. If you break your hand while wearing your ring it could be VERY bad.

    where does the second o'ring go? on the car i'm repairing it has the o'ring you put in the canister and another one between the canister and the oil adapter. this car was leaking oil bad. i can't even get the canister on the adapter all the way there is a gap where they meet that is maybe 1.8" they had an o'ring in that spot. but i see you do not put one up on the adapter before you put the canister back on? so is that second oring needed? thanks

    Wouldn’t the oil pan still have leftover oil or no?

  • @Jdalton92983
    @Jdalton92983 Před 2 lety +2

    I thought VW required synthetic oil in all of there cars. This was a problem in the early 2000 models because conventional oil would congeal due to the oil filters proximity to the exhaust manifold. Too much heat.

    • @inspectorjavert8802
      @inspectorjavert8802 Před měsícem

      The oil filter is mounted on the bottom of the engine in a plastic housing, not very near the headers. But still VW does require a synthetic. The owner of this car is crazy. The oil looked black, the filter looked gunked up and they had about 1/8 of a tank of gas, killing the fuel pump. That car is not very well taken care of. Sad.

  • @AlexanderMoore5133
    @AlexanderMoore5133 Před 7 lety +6

    Never tighten a filter with a filter wrench!

  • @headpen102
    @headpen102 Před 4 lety +1

    So why did he not drain the oil using the oil drain plug first before removing the oil filter? All of that old oil in the oil pan is still in the engine ontop of the new oil.

  • @inspectorjavert8802
    @inspectorjavert8802 Před rokem

    5:46 dude why are you putting a clean new filter into a dirty-ass filter housing? Take a minute and some parts cleaner spray and clean that crap out. And aside from using the wrong oil, good video.

  • @06yellow250ninja
    @06yellow250ninja Před 6 lety +1

    Failed to replace the 2nd gasket that the filter comes with... goes to show some things you need to have professionally done.

    • @inspectorjavert8802
      @inspectorjavert8802 Před rokem +1

      Actually it only has one gasket. He explained it in the video. I just got done doing mine and there is only one gasket. The second that comes with the filter is for a different car.

    .......now I'm thinking, every time I've gone to get my oil changed, have they been really changing it? They take like 10mins. This video has been shortened and is 9mins. ........scratching my head here

      Well remember the car has to cool off as well hot oil can cause serious burns.

  • @williamryan9195
    @williamryan9195 Před rokem

    That is the wrong type of oil.It takes a 5-40 Euro Synthetic with VW specs.

    • @inspectorjavert8802
      @inspectorjavert8802 Před rokem

      In the US domestic market you can also use 5W-30, but using conventional? It's madness. A full synthetic is an imperative. The owner of this car is insane. Oil is cheap, these engines, not so much.

  • @Tarundo
    @Tarundo Před 3 měsíci

    The right oil for beetle is 5-40

    • @inspectorjavert8802
      @inspectorjavert8802 Před měsícem

      Owner's manual says 5W-30 is fine as well, as long as it's a full synthetic. That Castrol he's putting in as conventional as it gets. I would never.
