The gas station should be liable for the damages and closed
The owner is liable.
By the looks of that station it's on it's way to close.
Charging $ 1,500 is excessive. From what little of the bill I can see, they replaced the fuel pressure regulator, changed the engine oil + other stuf. In the short term, water in gas will not affect fuel system parts and not contaminate the oil. They charged him $ 150.00 for an oil change.
Can't tell people what and what not to spend their money, if the gas station owner wants to keep playing games let him dump his money on lawsuits and settlements

Same thing happened to me several years ago at a Shell gas station near my home. Same as this gentleman, I rarely went there but on that day I went my Jeep started sputtering and kept stalling. Beware of some of those oil change shops. I had an oil changed at an oil change shop in Dallas. Drove about 2 miles home and checked the oil level. The oil level was correct but the oil looked like it had been in my car for months. I went back to the oil change shop and the owner said they use quality oil. Not wanting to damage my car I took it to the dealership where I purchased the car. I asked for a sample of the replaced oil. They brought back a sample of the oil that was inside my engine and the service tech said my oil had not been changed for a very long time and that I should get my oil changed more regularly. I was a tanker truck driver and I would check for water if the tank had moved in than 3 inches of water we would not deliver the gas
Bingo, we are supposed to stick the tank every time before dropping.
Yes but most drivers wont have water paste or even pump the rain water out of the spill buckets
What's supposed to happen after the water is discovered? Is the delivery rescheduled? Is it reported? What's the proper chain of command for this situation?
@@finally97 States have minimum tolerances on the amount of water that is acceptable in a tank. Some states have 0.5" some states have 1.5" of water that is acceptable. These tolerances are also based on the size of the tank. Anything above, fuel has to be stopped from being sold and deliveries are no longer made.
A Class C certified person (Usually the store owner/manager or above are Class C) then documents this in their internal log (Which was missing at this station, according to the news report) and call their petro contractor. This Petro contractor will then pump the water out, and check where the water came into the tank from fix that leak.
They will also inspect each pump to see if water is in the lines. If there is water in the line, those pumps are purged, filters inside the pump replaced, then purged, then filters are replaced again, signed and dated of when they were replaced. Then the pumps are calibrated to the correct amount of fuel dispensed according to the screen. (If screen says gallon the amount coming out of the nozzle must be a gallon not to the hose). This calibration spot gets a new wire with a metal state seal that has to be broken to be removed (In case someone wants to mess with the calibration)
Most gas stations in the city have an electronic tank reader, that monitors the level of fuel and water in each tank. If water is above that tolerance level, they will start beeping loudly. The only ones that I haven't seen them in are local stores in far rural towns.

I have no reason to think they’re lying, but you have to realize that you’re never going to legally prove that your fuel came from that specific station. And without evidence the news station is risking a slander lawsuit.
If a pump is unserviceable then you simply turn the breaker for that pump off so nobody could use it ''by error''. Simple as that.
So the owner knew and is running a scam operation. Shut the place down and sue the owner for all the damages and losses, then put this criminal in jail where he belongs.
Pump systems aren't like that anymore. The pump is below ground in thestorage tank now, has been for over 3 decades. As for the device standing there on the concrete island, yeah, we call it a pump, but only in name. Used to be, each "pump" had its own pump in the bottom compartment, so if you turned on either side, the pump came to life. If 2 hoses were dispensing at a time, it went a bit slower. Now, with the actual pump down in the tank, and it's a higher volume pump, one big pump can feed fuel to several heads at one time. The only power needed at the head, would be to light up any lights in it, run the onboard computer, and serve the network that all the "pumps" are tied to the main kiosk in the building with. So if one "pump" is powered, they're all powered. That's why they put garbage bags over the hose gun to keep people from grabbing and using certain units.
That said, I'm not defending these boneheads who have serious water problems in their fuels, I'm just trying to explain roughly how things work in modern filling stations.

EVERY SHIFT IS SUPPOSED TO STICK THE TANKS WITH THE WATER DETECTION GEL ON THE STICK. They are not doing what is required
These tanks are leaking into the ground
I'm an Army veteran and receipt/distributing fuel was part of my job. A dirty little secret that gas companies don't want you to know about is the delivery trucks DO NOT have filtering systems. About 1/4 of what they have in their trucks is WATER. B-12 Chemtool will remove water from your fuel tank, it should be regularly added to your fuel tank NO MATTER where you get fuel. The filters on the pumps at your local gas station are only meant to trap SOLIDS, not water.
Wow. Thank you for this information! How much much of the B-12 Chemtool do I use for a full tank of gas?
A bottle of Heet would also do the trick. @@kellycelestin1
Let me get this right, when I delivered fuel for a living and I delivered 8,000 gallons of 87 2,000 gallons would be water? That makes no sense at all
So if I fill my tank with water, and add B-12, what happens?
I believe this that's why sometimes the gas goes faster than others cause it's just bs
Thanks for sharing the other two states that don’t provide fuel quality test. We really appreciate that.
This has happened to me multiple times after filling up getting down the road and the vehicle dies.Never pump gas when you see the tanker truck at a gas station because they stir up all the water at the bottom of their tanks.Years ago we had to stick the tanks at the station every night and check the level and see how much water was at the bottom.
Not surprising to hear about a company ripping off the public while at the same time charging them a arm and a leg.
