  • What do you think is faster in loading a BGP table? An RB4011 or a CCR1009? By how much?

    Is it loud to put in office?

    kind of kills it that you cannot see both full screens. It kinda looks like they are both running 6.43.2 but cannot see for sure...

    Aside from numbers of ports.is there a specs difference between ccr 1009 1s and ccr 1009 pc?

    • @TheBrothersWISP
      @TheBrothersWISP  Před 4 lety

      There are some pretty vast differences on the Mikrotik web site including CPU clock rate, physical size, power systems, etc.

    Single core performance on this ARM based Mikrotiks are awesome.
    But I believe there are some scenarios when CCR lineup will be faster.
    The point is find to right use case for device.

    Thanks for sharing your test results. I was considering to buy the RB4011 but after viewing your video I am having second thought about Mikrotik routers. The RB4011 and CCR1009 routers should utilize the other unused CPU cores, instead of using only one core.

      BGP in an inherently single threaded program. There are ways to optimize it that some vendors have done, and Mikrotik has worked on this. But everyone is going to be constrained by this issue with BGP.

    And which one do you prefer? Rb4011 or ccr1009, and i wonder rb5009 and ccr1009. Hope you will get me some recommend thank u

      @thomascroghan9255 Před rokem

      Well it somewhat depends on the use case. If you're looking for BGP performance, the rb4011 and 5009 will always be faster at handling BGP updates then the 1009 even with ROS v7.
      That said, you can pull off a lot with the CCR 1009s that's just crazy. Terminating large numbers of pppoe tunnels or other highly "scale-able" tasks is really impressive especially on the 1036.
      TBH if you're unsure it might be better to reach out to a Mikrotik trainer/consultant to get some general knowledge and guidance for your specific use case.

    ccr1009 CPU was running at 1.000mhz or 1.200mhz ?

    • @chechitogmail
      @chechitogmail Před 5 lety

      I already saw that it was at 1000mhz, maybe al 1200mhz the result will be less painfull to the ccr1009

    • @TheBrothersWISP
      @TheBrothersWISP  Před 5 lety +5

      I'd expect 20% less painful, but it'd have to be 4 GHz to even match what the 4011 did.

  • @MrTheTog

    The other major CPU crunching to be done once the RIB is processed is doing the changes to the FIB. Both jobs are on the single core. See the additional pain point for yourself: Add or even modify simple static route while you already have 700k routes populated. Your static route add/change has nothing to do directly with your BGP RIB, it's purely your FIB that you're modifying and you can see how intense it is.

    • @TheBrothersWISP
      @TheBrothersWISP  Před 5 lety

      *nods* One would assume there would be a similar performance difference.

    • @MrTheTog
      @MrTheTog Před 5 lety

      On a positive note, no matter how many full tables you take in and however large your RIB grows, your FIB is still the same ~716k chosen active routes.

    • @BattousaiHBr
      @BattousaiHBr Před 4 lety

      it's a bit of a shame that it doesn't try to update the FIB with partial RIB information as it receives it on a 2nd core.

      The Tile CPU on the CCR like the CCR1036 we use is only assigned what rOS assigns it. It's called in-order-processing. The ARM A15 is out-of-order. It can handle requests from memory or interfaces at an rate not possible by the CCR. The CCR needs to be moved to a 8-core ARM A78 arrangement or higher. I would say minimum of a 16 core count of A78's.
