After watching the new Marvel movie, Black Widow, we were all left with one question. Did Red Guardian ACTUALLY Fight Captain America? A lot of people have tried their hand at answering this but I think they've missed the BIGGEST twist of the story. Yes, Red Guardian fought Captain America... but it was NOT Steve Rogers! Who was it? You'll have to watch to find out!

I thought the payoff would be a moment when Alexi was fighting Taskmaster: Alexi realizes that Taskmaster is using some of caps moves, and does exactly what he says in the story (grabs shield, pushes him out the window)
EXACTLY!!!!!! How was that not done!!!!
That definitely would have been cool!!
He DOES get to throw the shield, albeit he messes it up

Red Guardian: I wanna fight captain America
Steve: *Still frozen in ice*
William Burnside: "Fine I'll do it myself"
Even though you're better than OwO, your comment still makes no sense =/
That's not how this meme is used.
Yeah but the captain America' who went back in time isn't. Two caps in the same place. One frozen and one living with Peggy
@Junxi Liu yeah it’s jellal
We meet again
That intro was awesome. My favorite part was when Steph proves she loves MatPat because otherwise she wouldn't have been able to get the Soul Stone by sacrificing him otherwise
The fight between captain America and the red guardian could’ve actually happened because in endgame when cap went back in time to put the infinity stones back he went to go live his life and maybe during 1983-1984 the one we know as Old man cap may have actually fought The red Guardian while the other captain America was still frozen in ice
yeah i was thinking that too
No because going back in time doesn’t change the present, remember?
hhhmmmmm
@@shawn980 but old cap still shows up in Avengers Endgame so maybe it’s the same kind of loophole or time travel mix up that happened there
I was thinking the same thing.
He fought "A" Captain America, not "The" Captain America. So he was technically correct. The best kind of correct. Unless he made it all up for Russian prison cred and then went delusional believing his own lies.
I see that futurism a reference lmao
What if he fought Bradley as cap America
Ok off topic but can y’all stop putting bob links to vids in other comments there’s 2 all ready it’s annoying
He’s correct by default. His favorite way to be correct!
could have been the real cap since he went back in time to be with peggy and he did turn up as an old man at the end of endgame so it make sense
The Red Guardian was cheated in this movie. Like every fight scene with the Red Guardian is either for comedic effect for cuts away for anything interesting happens
Big agree
Honestly, I thought this line was used to show how stupid he was since it was obvious he couldnt have fought captain america.
Massive agree. They did my red boy bad
@@crusadr_4966 he just wasnt allowed to be anything but the goofy comedic relief character and was constantly played off as stupid.
@🔥Darth Dämon🎃 and like john Walker who was forced to be evil bad guy by the plot.
Perhaps a mini theory on Widow’s mother? That plot point regarding her being a feisty woman who looked for her child relentlessly, before eventually dying and getting buried under a supposed tree (?), never really paid off. Or maybe I’m just crazy.
One thing I noticed is that in the post credits scene Natasha was buried under a blossom tree, just like her mother. That isn't really a theory but it is something to think about.
It could be the blossom tree natasha was burried under but conspiracy inside the conspiracy it could be the tree outside the shack (maybe where natasha and her family live) in the falcon and the winter soldier most likely the one the they practice on by throwing the shield at it ???? Who knows
@@RYAN_KID It's just a memorial kinda grave right? We know her body's not actually buried there
@@Aro7241 unless cap went and idk retried her dead body, it's on vormir still
Red Guardian may have fought Steve after he went back in time at the end of Endgame. Remember when the Russo Bros said Old-man Steve was at Peggy’s funeral? That means he could’ve fought Alexi in 83-84.
He would’ve been 70
@@cheeseman-qi8fp more like 170
The Russo brothers are stupid and didn’t even pay attention to their own script bc that is not how time travel works
I really liked the scene where the Red Guardian is struggling to put on his suit because THE DUDE IS A SUPER SOLDIER USING SUPER STRENGTH and *he’s still struggling!!*
On one side, he didn't want to tear his suit off
That means it's a well-made suit
Cut him some slack, he also had SUPER FATNESS
Well, use too much strength and it’ll just rip. It takes finesse
well he also struggled with closing the door of the CHOPPER

"it's so good when internet fans do your work for free"
They know the material just as well or better than the internet nerds, but they won't create their own stuff, making it much easier to path between their ideas, plus they can see what kind of thoughts people are having to set up twists

It's a decoy just like how wakanda, medrapor, Atlantis showed up on a map in Iron man 2 yrs before they were introduced and Atlantis is yet to be introduced 😂 if they choose to do that
William Burnsides’ origin sounds very similar to the Reverse Flash. Both had an obsession with a hero they idolized and while researching their hero found a means to gain the same powers as them. In one iteration, Eobard Thawne goes through surgery to look like Barry Allen in the same way Burnside does when trying to be Captain America. Both eventually fight their former hero as well. Very similar stories it seems.
The intro matpat’s wife should be happy she wasn’t chosen to die, if only he threw the coke and bought another one afterwards
I mean I'm pretty sure the idea is that if he chooses the coke he can never drink any coke again

Burnside's decent into evil makes perfect sense when you remember what the serum does. "Good becomes great, bad becomes worse." This guy was real bad before the serum.
My only problem with it would be that, us agent is basically just evil cap, obviously he's good or and anti hero now, but it seems very similar especially since it's was done recently so I don't think we'll see him for a while.
@@ywoyiakuelwywpfnd John was just fucked in the head unless he gets his good priorities straight. Burnside is different.
I think that same phrase works for symbiotes also just like carnage's original story when Eddie left prison and a piece of Venom was left in the jail and that same piece bonded with the other guy who was with Eddie and that same piece of Venom became a worse symbiote just bcuz that other guy was also worse than Eddie
Burnside went “bad” because canonically in Marvel Comics the Super Soldier Serum has to be stabilized with “Vita-Rays” or the recipient will go psychotic. Erskine kept the technology of vita-rays (a purposely nonsense term he made up to hide their nature) in his head never committing it to paper, so it died with him. We can see from the transformation scene in First Avenger (and from the fact that every other recipient has mental problems) that the MCU kept this concept. (Side note: Isiah Bradley was the only SSS recipient who was strong-willed enough to not go mad without the vita-ray treatment, but he did develop Huntington’s Disease)

Well, the payoff to Alexei's stories about fighting Cap was the fight with Taskmaster, who was mirroring Cap's moves, so Alexei got to finally have his fight with Captain America -- at least by proxy. But it's still weird that he asks Nat if Cap ever talks about Red Guardian, because if he was just making up stories he'd KNOW he'd never actually met Cap and there's no way Cap would be aware of him.
The best part of this movie was the “this would be the best way to die” during the avalanche prison break and “this would be the worst way to die” when her head was about to get cut open.
She said “coolest” not “best” way to die.
@@sion8 Not a big difference, but yeah
@@squidking762 I would consider there to be a big difference between "coolest" and "best". Going out in a huge avalanche may seem like a cool way to die, but could be very painful and if you survive the initial wave you could be buried for a long time slowly dying- not the best way to die.
Cool is a lot more subjective than best, although best can be an opinion. I could consider being burned to death to be a cool way to die, but it would certainly not be a good way to die, and definitely not the best way to die.

I like Natashas back story a lot, it gives a real undertone to real life problems
Natasha was sold and trafficked as a baby bc her family struck a deal that her mother didn’t agree with. Of course traffickers don’t (or at least I don’t think) want to turn young girls into super spy’s but it gives a good look into what happens when children are abandoned or kidnapped

I like that idea
Welp, its up to matpat to figure this one out because this kinda makes sense
I like this theory, it makes a lot of sense. Red Guardian would probably be very upset to find out that he fought a fake Cap.
My wife and I had the theory that Alexei fought Old Man Steve who got restless being Director Carter's househusband. We did some basic math and speculation and Old Man Steve was 78 in 1984, but would have been functionally early 60s thanks to the serum. And, he had a spare shield lying around, too...

Wait. Another theory: What if he did fight Rogers, just not the one frozen in ice. Remember when he went back in time to put back all the infinity stones? Then he stayed in that time getting back the life he lost. Maybe he did have a run in with Alexi. Just something I thought.
Edit: Did not think this would get so popular. This was just something I thought up really quickly for people to think about and now there are so many theories being made.
@@Chkprofilename Do not post this on my comment.
He returned the stones and went back to 1945 as shown in the end. In the 60s he was no longer in his prime and he had also learnt a lot from the future so obviously he won't go around fighting Red Guardian.
That's what I was saying! Can't believe MatPat didn't realise that! 🤦
@@PurooRoy Well Steve does age slower than normal people. And maybe the run in was accidental, we don't know what Steve was up to.
I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying it's something to think about.
I was Going to say Something similar. Except what if Steve's journey through time wasn't so simple? whatever for one reason or another he ended up in various time periods on his journey to return the infinity Stones? heck, maybe he ended up encountering kang And had to fight Him across time.
Let's be honest when he asked if Captain America talked about him it seemed like a genuine question and not a lie.
Maby they could do a Winter Guard movie with William Burnside based in the Cold War
8:44 Don't forget: Howard Stark had managed to recreate the Super Soldier Serum, before it was stolen by the Winter Soldier so HYDRA could make more Super-Soldiers. Not to mention, Wilfred Nagel managed to make the serum that enhanced Karli Morgenthau, the Flag-Smashers, and John Walker, so it's not out of the question that the government did have more serum created.
Honestly, I really hope that this theory is correct, because other than Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, and John Walker, William Burnside is my favorite Captain America.
I've noticed that too. But I really think it was Bucky in disguise. Who best to draw out Red guardian than Captain America? Plus Bucky Barnes is so connected to Steve's run as cap that Alexei probably wouldn't look to much into it if he saw his face. He would just think oh its Captain America...cool, lets fight this boi. Hydra also sent Bucky for Isaiah to get more super soldiers. Alexi being a super soldier and having already crossed hydra, he would be a prime target for the super soldier/winter soldier program. It also just seens like right up their wheelhouse to mess with Bucky like that.

It is possible that while he was returning the Infinity Stones he ran into Red Guardian. He specifically went back to do that and then retire. Even though I don't think Steve would just watch if help was needed he had to keep a low profile.

I have a slightly different theory what if the Captain America that Red Guardian fought was actually the Winter Soldier disguised as Captain America in an attempt to get the same launch codes but ran into Red Guardian who already had the codes

On the theory it's time-travelling post-Engame Steve Rogers, my problems are twofold:
1) He was laying low with Peggy, not gallivanting around as Cap.
2) old Steve at the end of Endgame had lived 106 years. (give or take)
If he did go out in the 80's to fight red Guardian, he would have been 74. Not what I would consider fighting shape.
I agree that it wasn’t Steve rogers based on the laying low with Peggy point, however he is roughly 117 at the end of endgame and looks maybe 80 at a maximum so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say that at like 74 he could’ve looked in his 40s and that would be reasonable for fighting.
to be fair red guardian wasn't in fighting shape in this entire movie and still flew up walls lol
He may have been laying low with Peggy, but what if some circumstance forced him to don the suit one more time? There r a lot of shows where some retired badass has to go on 1 more mission despite promising never to go back in the field again. Maybe he did fight with Red Guardian.
Old cap
If Steve rogers went to protect someone because of circumstances, I’m pretty sure he would use a different identity

So this is what I wanna know, since Alexei received the serum, he’s stopped aging. So how old IS Alexei exactly?

now that a good one
In endgame, Steve Rogers took the tesseract back to the past and lived back to to the present. red guardian could have found Steve Rogers because he was living in 1984.
OMG THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
That contradicts the time travel
Nice one!
@@Jackson-jn4vf the movie contradicted time travel in the first place by letting him travel back in time in his own timeline.
That doesn’t make sense with the mcu’s form of time travel
Or what if he fought the Captain America from the end of Endgame. When Steve Rogers went back in time to return the infinity stones, he decided to live his life alongside Peggy. But what if while living his new life he did indeed fight the Red Guardian during the year 1983 or 1984.
Another Theory... Guardian fought Bucky.
Basically the USSR sent Guardian off to do something that didn't go along with whatever plan Hydra had in mind at the time so...
...They thawed out "the Winter soldier" to stop him.
However since they didn't want to tip off the USSR about their "Frozen Assassin" someone in Hydra came up with the hilariously ironic idea to dress Bucky up as "Captain America" so that not only would the USA be blamed for the failure of Guardian's mission BUT Guardian would be reporting back that Captain America was ~still~ an active agent for the United States, leading the Soviet Union down a crazy rabbit hole to try to determine if that were true.
Thus leaving Hydra's interference completely obscured.

good call
yeah, but i think his other life was in an alt timeline
This cancels out the time travel system for the MCU-
i've wondered all along if maybe they never did have the ability to travel through time, only through the multiverse. even though it was a bad show, future man tackled the idea pretty well: once you leave a timeline/universe you can never return to it, only some other version of it.
🙂
It's also possible this was referencing the fact Steve went back in time. Perhaps there were a few times he had to risk altering the timeline to come out of retirement.
you forgot to add to your theory for stronger evidence, the post credits scene of The Incredible Hulk; Tony Stark goes into the bar with General Ross and basically tells him, "hate to say i told you so General but that super solider project was put on ice for a reason...". Certainly strengthens the argument that the Government experimented with the super soldier for years later until the end results were so bad that they were forced to stop experimenting due to the end results not being the original Cap America. There's also a chance he could've fought the REAL Steve Rogers Captain America when Steve went back in time to return the infinity stones at the end of endgame. Now that I'd love to see live action or on What If?.
Not a high chance as there would be no reason for cap to fight during that time
yea but remenver end game time travel when u go to the past to change the future you instead change a alternate past making a alternte branch
@@patrickmcevoy2555 Which is something that more or less went out the window when old man Rogers shows up. Meaning that they are living in the time branch created when Rogers went back in time to return the stones the entire time.

Actually they said he went to a alternate branch, lived with Peggy and came back somehow after she died (probably with pym particles)
This was confirmed
@@-silver0199 well directors ret conned that steve rogers went to a alternate universeto live out his life which doesn't even make sense cause i dont see how hed'd get back
Maybe he fought the Steve that came back to Peggy after Endgame? Given the whole sacred timeline that both is and isnt at the same time he could have lived on this timeline anyway... idk
He would create a alternitive timeline if that happened
@@kxmuna isnt the point of the TVA to delete branched timelines? So if Steve went back and live there the only way he could have done it, is to be in the same timeline right?
The intro has me DYING of laughter🤣🤣🤣🤣 “YOU’RE THIRSTY?!”
Perhaps the Captain America he fought was a Skrull?? Although the Skrulls did come to Earth in Captain Marvel which was set after Captain America: The First Avenger and Steve was frozen so probably not.
he fought one of those captain Americas that asks kids if they want to take pictures in Times Square
