That awkward moment when MatPat theorizes a plot that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual film, but would’ve been leagues better than the actual movie we got😬😂
The best part was he mentioned the actual plot when he talked about gorr
Real. If I was a movie director for marvel or DC I'd just drop a trailer, see what Matpat comes up with, and do that cause his idea would probably be cooler than what I had in mind
The "blonde hair, blue eyes, girl from Thor's childhood" could potentially refer to Amora the Enchantress too. Which would be less crazy than the Phoenix and Angela theories
Phoenix would be weird since she is heavily X-Men and they haven't shown any signs of bringing them in yet. Angela was his sister in the comics which was done with Hela in the last movie so unless there is some stuff happening she's out too.

Another thing is that Heimdall’s son has the same pronunciation as Axl, the writer of the song.
I think the best explanation for “sweet child o mine” is Gorr trying to save his kids and wife from a famine by praying to the gods, to which the gods don’t respond and his family dies, hence the following lyric “where do we go now”. It sets up a connection with the villain and is a lot more logical for the movie.
What about in the gorr the god butcher comics (godbomb), that we literally saw thor's 3 daughters?

Matt may have been wrong about the child's identity, BUT was totally on point about the song significance, indeed "spoiling" the end of the movie.
Now that I've seen this, having known nothing about Angela before (I'm not a comic reader), when he mentions she appears after a multiversal tear or whatever.. I don't think she's completely ruled out as making an appearance.
Sweet Child of Mine could also be in reference to the loss of Gorr's family and unborn child. Just another theory that kinda fits, in a grim way. "Where do we go now?" could be in reference to Gorr's decent into madness after so much tragedy.

I just wanna point something out. Children in Viking times actually had their last names as their fathers first name and then "son" or "dottir" depending on if they're a boy or a girl. So Thors last name is Odinson. So calling Angela Odindottir actually isn't just lame and unoriginal it's also historically accurate! The uhh... the vikings were not known for their subtlety
Edit: as people in the comments pointed out these naming conventions don’t apply in modern times in most Scandinavian countries. Hope that clarifies things!
For a well known example. Leif Erikson (the Viking that actually discovered the Americas) was the son of Erik The Red (whose name was Erik Thorvaldson)
I believe that the "not subtle" part was her original given name Aldrif, which if you check the translation means "adrift".
Also, Icelanders still keep that custom, and some even have a secondary surname based on their paternal grandfather (-sonar). In the case of single mothers (or divorced mothers that cut off all ties with the fahter), the name used in the surname is the mother's, and in the case of people whose father has a second name, they use the one their fathers is mostly known as.
As a side note, they've recently added -bur as an alternative for people who register themselves as "gender neutral".
I mean, it’s not like the vikings invented patronymic naming; they have found Ancient Greek pottery shards with patronymic naming on them from the 5th century BC, where the earliest recorded northmen raids wasn’t until year 700-something AD. It is also used prevalent in Arabic naming traditions and many other naming traditions. :-)

I thought the song was in reference to Thor's daughter/s because he meets his descendants in the storyline they're adapting in this movie (three women), thanks to time travel shenanigans. The movie could introduce a child he had and didn't know about (maybe with Lady Syf) or outright have his daughter from the future show up.

One of my camp counselors was actually a special effects editor for this movie, which makes me really excited to see it in theaters.
Fun fact: the whole "Where do we go now?" thing came up when they were first writing and practicing the song and couldn't figure out what to put in the bridge. They started improvising and throwing spaghetti at the wall and the in joke stuck and made it into the final product.

It was really disappointing that Marvel removed Lady Death, changed Thanos to a misguided ecoterrorist instead of the pinnacle of "That Guy Who Thinks Escalation Is The Solution To Every Problem" trying to make a girl love him by flexing on the universe, and retconned in Thor's secret sister instead. Blocking the introduction of Angela is just one more disappointment to add to the pile.

I doubt Angela will make an appearance, but it was hella awesome to hear her mentioned in this video. I've been an Angela fan for about 11 years, but haven't heard her mentioned since I first laid eyes on her comics. This was definitely a treat.
Calling her "Odinsdottir" is just following old Norse naming conventions. That custom only died out relatively recent, a few hundred years ago, as part of a modernization and streamlining program that led to the growth of the Swedish empire. With a growing modern military, things like everyone having the same last name started to become a bit of a problem
Many common last names in all of Scandinavia still carries this tradition. If any last name ends with -son or -sen, it’s stems from “son of” patronymic meaning. Also, it didn’t die out as a practice until maybe around 150 years ago; my grandfather’s generation was around the last ones to have patronymic naming in Denmark.
Also, while I am not Icelandic, I do believe they still do use the patronymic tradition (and being the absolute badass feminists that they are, they also have matronymic naming as well!), because the Icelandic language is very close to old Norse and as such, the Icelandic people are good at keeping the oral traditions of Norse culture alive. To my knowledge, they name their daughters and sons differently and therefore still use -son for sons, -dóttir for daughters. I remember my professor at university (who is Icelandic) telling me that they do not change last names when they marry, as your spouse isn’t suddenly the son/daughter of your mother/father. As such, even siblings could have different “last names”. I am not sure if this is still the case in 2022, but it definitely was for my professor, who is around 40-ish years old now.
@@consberg1990 I can see if the Icelanders still do it, as they never really had a need to switch to the traditional Christian system like the Scandinavian Norse. I do believe it did continue in Scandinavia, but not as last names, rather being the same as the Russian patronymic system, where it's effectively the middle name. It's actually still tradition in Russia to call someone who is either older than you, or, in the military, a superior officer, by their first name and patronym. For example, if you watch Attraction, you'll see Artyom refer to Yulia's father, both Artyom's senior and a colonel, later general in the second movie, as "Valentin Yurievich"
What about Sif? I know from cast lists available online that the Sif character is definitely going to be in this movie. She was a blonde goddess in Norse myth, although in the comics, her hair color was charged by a magic curse. She's also an old girlfriend of Thor's.
With Sif around Torunn being the Sweet Child becomes a possibility.

sadly I wouldn't bet on it. Both barely appear in Marvel comics, neither of them even reaching ten appearances, the perun that showed up wasn't even a god, just a super soldier who got killed in one hit. It's not impossible but I highly doubt it

I mean, that's how Norse names worked, and still do in Iceland at least. The Prime Minister of Iceland for example is Katrín Jakobsdóttir.

14:25 this actually wasn’t lazy naming but rather cultural research. In ancient Nordic nations (and even sometimes used modernly, specifically in iceland) taking the dads name and adding son or dotter was actually the status quo

Out of the topics conveyed in this video I am more inclined to believe the first one with the X-Men connection because they've already done the whole surprise sister plot with Ragnarok
The whole bringing Jane as a kind of Goddess now, the sweet child thing and the fact that we already have Wanda's twins, a recast for Cassie and Kate bishop might be pointing us to Torunn as the sweet child. I know she's Sif's daughter but they could theoretically change things to make her Jane's and she would be a really cool addition to the Young Avengers lineup they seem to be forming.

I need a film theory about the long standing series “Super Sycamore” an action series for kids in the Sycamore Cinematic Universe, they have 82 episodes and multiple seasons with backstories
Yeah i dont think the Phoenix will show up in the mcu just yet. The Phoenix then requires including the M’kran crystal and the host. So they would have to include a mutant. It could only work because of the Gods theme in the MCU but it would take a lot of build up. I think we will see Angela but briefly and probably at the end like they introduced Eros on the eternals. However, I would like to see Angela as the Queen of Asgard with Valkyrie. I would believe the Angela theory before the Phoenix theory.
m'kraan crystal isn't mentioned all that much in the comics, so I don't think they would have to involve that. Just say PF is the nexus of realities

I dont see either of these being viable, one would think we would have heard of casting news or something if it was Angela - you forgot to even address Valkyrie who is going to play a very large role in the film. The phoenix force here would be too confusing for casual movie going audiences without some prior setup. They both seem like a real stretch.

Who doesn't know about the Phoenix Force by now? We've had two crappy movies about it lol.I think fans of comic book movies are alot more informed than they once were. Would be a great way to introduce the X-men and set up Avengers vs X-Men as well. So my vote is that its the Phoenix Force. But it will probably be Angela unfortunately.

I really like watching these predictive theories and I'm looking forward to watching it since I just started the video, but I have to say I find it kind of weird that you haven't done any moon knight theories yet.

@@quacksun5959 The film also lacked one important thing that makes a good Marvel film - crazy reshoots - usually the film will get vetted by an internal working group and go through a continual iterative process of reshooting reediting revision until perfection. But it looked like they didn't control Taika Waititi enough. They assumed the formula would work just like Ragnarok and the gamble of putting too much faith in the director failed to pay off.
