What if I told you that you’re an addict and you don’t even know it? Don’t worry you’re not alone, we all are, or most of us at least. And here’s a little experiment to prove it. Once this video ends, turn off your phone and leave it in your drawer for the next 24 hours. Do you think you can survive without it. If you’re willing to give this experiment a try, you’re already among the few people courageous enough to do so. That, sadly, doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. Why are we addicted to dopamine? Does dopamine detox actually work?

I swear this channel can read minds. Just 7 minutes ago I was in the elevator talking to my neighbor tell him its been 4 months since we saw each other. I was like, I come from work and I go straight to my phone and start scrolling for like 4 hours and then sleep. And repeat!
    I never go outside.......
I think I won't survive without the internet
I am really scared of what I have become!

      Sorry for some grammatical errors
I think that you are defenitly not alone with that problem but, i dont know if you watched his video on optimistic nihilism, i think it is worth giving a shot to try out different things for example being outside and enjoying nature or other stuff. I myself sturggeld with depressive thoughts a few years ago and i still dont have it easy many days but i am getting better and i think you can too.
It may seem a little hard in the beginning but it sure is worth it. So just try out going for a five minute walk wherever you live and maybe do some push ups or stuff like that. Because why not live life to its fullest if it doesnt matter in the end.

Always remember that if something happened and your phone was gone forever it would only take a few days before you realize how over exaggerated your attachment to it was. It is a distortion of the truth to believe you are incapable of functioning or feeling happy without an attachment to technology. In fact, it is likely to be the exact opposite. You cant truly feel happy with such a superficial attachment, because it is ultimately crafted to exploit and capitalize off you.

0:00: 📵 You may be addicted to your phone without realizing it, but taking a 24-hour break can provide a new perspective on your relationship with it.
2:21: 🧠 Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in motivation, pleasure, and reward.
5:00: 🧠 Our brain's response to pleasure-producing stimuli can lead to addiction and negative consequences.
6:55: 🧠 A dopamine addiction can be cured through a dopamine detox, which involves abstaining from instant gratification activities and rewiring the brain to identify and replace unhealthy patterns with healthy ones.
9:13: 📱 Our obsession with seeking constant happiness through pleasurable stimuli, like our phones, is preventing us from being content and alone with our thoughts.

I can confirm it's a good feeling to wake up on the weekend and forget your phone by the bed, and not realise that it was even missing until nightfall. And i think what you told in the video should be taught in schools at an early stage, so they perhaps become more enlightend parents in the future. But how it looks like today is that parents are just giving their child an Ipad or something to keep them distracted, to keep them off their backs, but they fail to notice that they are actually in a sense just giving them drugs.

Then see how I improve on the topics I am interested in as Ive always been a fan of your channel since 2019 and never fully commit to the lessons and or sponsors you give to us because knowledge that is helpful is only useful if used correctly and applied in our lives in a way that will cater our style of seeing the world and be better equipped in handling our own problems, and thank you so much for giving us the opportunity too understand each other and be better at loving ourselves in the moment and plan for the future we seem is so hard to figure out. You are a great man with a smart and articulate way of making us the best version of ourselves and its amazing to be able to get the chance to have that. 💯🙌🏾

Another fact- if you reward yourself with a high dopamine stimulus (like playing video games) for a limited amount of time after you’ve completed your responsibilities, chores, and/or things you want to do to enrich your life, you will teach your brain to expect the reward. This makes your brain produce more dopamine as you do your daily tasks, making you more motivated to do them.
Also, as someone who has struggled with multiple addictions, I can say cutting out technology helped immensely with all of them, moreso than therapy and treatments and what not.
Lately I’ve been falling back into perpetual scrolling. I came across this video and clicked on it knowing aperture would tell me what I already know but don’t want to hear.
Thanks for the reminder. Getting off my phone to go take a walk and practice French. Merci!

I use my phone all the time to, read news, get informed, research, watch meaningful things on CZcams like this type of video.
Also to communicate when i need or want to share something with someone.
The smartphone of today is an invaluable tool. It all depends on how a person uses it.
I avoid looking at bullshit on my phone such as on those cringy apps like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, Snapchat.
All that i need is CZcams, a Browser and those chat apps to communicate and that's it.
It's all down to how you use it.
Even tho i'm addicted, i don't really care, cause it's my choice.

Then try the detox only one day on the relaxing weekend.
      You'll see the world differently.
I have the same usage as you do, and still find benefits at cutting it off completely from time to time. Your attention to what you hear and see outstairs improve quite a lot to begin with.
Your emotions are stronger, whether good or bad, your mind starts to fill all those empty gaps with philosophy and it feels ... really amazing.
Still need my phone to stay in touch with my friends and plan my routine for workout and go out, but yet, it feels great to detox from itme to time ;-)

Use it. Destruction is integral to all mankind. There may be problems, should the creative force, loose harmony, as creation is destruction. Create or destroy? Interchangeable as one is the other, paradox for example, expend some energy by taking a run. It strengthens the legs, increases hormones and pushes the respiratory system, boosting circulation and enhancing muscle spasticity and flexibility, however the violent impact on the skeletal system, knees, joints and hips in particular, can lead to more harm than these benefits. To feel the force of what happens, when you block this creative force, simply oppose your weight, become your resistance and gently exert yourself against the environment. Try holding on and to let your body's full weight, hang from hands on a doorway or by swinging and grabbing hold, using your weight suspended from a bar.
The effect is your physical force meets your mass, being both real and present, we forget this sometimes, we carry ourselves automatically, we don't float, our mass is not suspended by an external force, we deliver this automatically, on demand, and often independently of any need for thought, as it becomes effortless to us as we learn to move, becoming ever more coordinated and moving ever more graciously. It's easy to forget, the effort we all make, in doing these basic tasks. Focusing this point, taking to another level, instead of hanging from the bar, turn to pulling your full body weight, forcing your wrists to lift, as with your eyes, moving up, until your hands align with your chest. Remove one limit, continue. As before, pulling your body up to your chest, turning your wrists, push down full force, move the Earth down, rise above, ascend as you do, removing one of most mortal man's limits. Never doubt, only know that you can, knowing, your willing, you see it, you believe it, you become it, repeating with the patience of a saint, perisiting all, until it is done.
It is easy to give in, to loose faith, maybe so but never loose what you see in yourt minds eye, in the true and only important vision, yes your eyes are important, however its only your mind's eye which keeps you here, alive and present in this reality, a present which you are due and has yet to come, by focusing your mind, when seeing without your eyes, in your minds sight. This is a challenge sometimes, it means realigning our abilities with our means, we can choose to be humble and satisfy our desires, or we can work to resist and bring balance to our goals, pulling what is seen in our mind, into reality. Maybe to be free from desires is not for me or even you! Is it in any way realistic or humanly possible to achieve, yet this was the goal of Jesus as was with the Budda, Krishna, Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu as "creation, preservation, dissolution, grace, and illusion".
Respectively, the first three actions, are all I mention, as basic physical forms. Nothing has been changed, it remains being nothing, yet is something, which remains to be seen, or has it now become an objective, accepted asunder no man nor above all mankind, but becoming, not being without limits but knowing our true nature, our first limit or perhaps as in Gnosis, our flesh made as man is mortal "sin". As within us all, in all naturally, power is optimised when directed and controlled. In yourself, you are the channel, allowing, controlling, flowing in all and to your directions. Align your mind, all your intentions, in your objectives, all will become, all will find, all is perfection.

I will admit I still find it hard to get out and do things with friends because I would prefer to play my video games or watch a tv show. But now that my job requires me to leave my phone at home during the work day and in the future I’ll be completely cut off, I honestly find myself being generally a lot happier and content with less than most of my peers I see.

I’m a business owner and I’m struggling to disconnect from work on the weekends. I get anxious if I’m not checking my phone. I feel like I’m too young to have no life after work. I feel disconnected from my friends and can’t relate to most of what they talk about or do. I feel older than I actually am. I’m really not sure if success is worth losing the enjoyment of the smaller things in life. I feel as if “everything” has to have a purpose. I hope to one day find the balance I’m seeking. For anyone chasing the finer things in life please take a moment and look around you. Take in everything because one day the things you take for granted won’t be there.

One thing that is worth mentioning and I realized after not owning a smartphone for about two years.
That is that you are not really a part of reality/the world (that we now) live in if you don’t have a “smart device” and are constantly connected to the internet (at least here in Iceland).
Because almost nobody will contact you by calling or sending a SMS anymore and will have no idea of events happening, because most human interactions nowadays (unfortunately) only take place through a “social”-media of some kind.
And that’s the only reason that I (begrudgingly) caved in and got a smartphone again (albeit an old hand-down from one of my friends’ daughter).
I think that also plays a big role in why it’s so hard to quit the internet/phone addiction of today.

My addiction was so bad I'd pick up my phone, probably 50x or more, to stare at my apps, thinking, "Which one should I open?" for no reason, besides all the times I did something on my phone and the rest was responding to comments on my posts or seeing how many likes my posts/comments got and from who then look at their post to make more comments. Realizing this was a problem, I deactivated FB, IG, and SC. I also stopped watching the news after realizing, for the most part, it's not an accurate representation of the real world. I went jogging/walking more and had more energy to work extra hours. I now only use my phone when necessary and feel better overall.

Yea its bad. We attach to all these things that bring us easy gratification, and it buries the real stuff. I say that if any individual who is strongly attached to their devices were to detach they would discover powerful meanings that they forgot or didnt know were there. You would be amazed at how and what your brain will reveal and drive you towards if there aren't distractions in the way. You could even find what you've been looking for. I had this experience and things just become so clear, you just feel what to do because its so strong. Real meaning rises to the top.

even 24 hours is unrealistic because I wouldn’t have an alarm clock, listen to music or be able to talk to anyone

Not to take anything away from the main message of the video, but dopamine is not a pleasure or feel good neurotransmitter at all. Dopamine is proposed to be actually the “error-checking” neurotransmitter, dopamine neurons fire off when something unexpected happens , and makes us alert to these stimuli. This is why, as slot machines are pseudo-random to keep the gambling person engaged, likewise scrolling through social media can be addictive because of the unexpected post, picture, or video makes us come back for more. That’s also why, even if tolerance builds and scrolling is not pleasurable anymore, the motivation to keep going for the next unexpected “thing” doesn’t go away. One of the trademarks of an addiction is the “inability to stop despite feeling no pleasure or despite harmful consequences to oneself or others.” Other than that, great video!

Speedrunning is an interesting in between here sometimes. You get instant gratification at the start of your journey a lot, with lots of personal bests happening. But then you may reach a plateau, and it's here where the detox happens. You have to spend more and more time practicing and refining, and just doing lots of attempts to see improvement. But then when you finally see improvement, the dopamine rush you get feels so much better than before. And the detox into next rush sequence repeats. Eventually tho, people will reach a point of where you will go too long without the gratification, and that's when people retire, typically. They reach that point where they don't think improving will be gratifying, and will take too long, and decide to end the hobby and move on.

@@jimp2138 It's ironic you mention this, cuz I actually got a nice PB in CTR Any% NMG that put me into the Top 10 for the first time in that category about an hour ago, and ran it back the next attempt and almost PB'd again lmao
It's like I've been speedrunning for 13 years and know how the progression of improvement works for a large majority of people 🤷‍♂️ it's not unhealthy unless you make it so (obsessively playing and not taking breaks if you need them/playing for too long, for example, or beating yourself down about it, etc.) It applies to pretty much every hobby where you're aiming to improve at a skill that is difficult and time consuming to get good at. Improving at something isn't easy, and giving up is not what people should be doing when faced with a task that requires above average effort.

I don't think this balancing of the brain always happens. There are definitely times where something amazing happens and it makes my whole day better, and though I do calm down after a bit, it doesn't exactly make me feel empty inside. Sure, it makes me want more, but that usually only leads to my benefit like after solving a problem I focus on another!

@@JuanEL1 For me that's not even a challenge, I just automatically don't use my phone for much. The real challenge is how much I use my laptop and the CZcams I watch on it. I don't watch the shorts, as I blocked them with an extension called Unhook, as well as the home feed, and the sidebar of videos you see when you actually watch a video, which means the only videos I actually see are the ones that are from channels I subbed too in my notifications, by choice. I still end up watching CZcams for a while, but I do feel much happier than before I had Unhook. I recommend it to anyone who finds themselves going down rabbit holes or opening every video they see in a new tab, because I know I did :)
