This is a video about overstimulation, dopamine, social media addiction, internet addiction, and a bunch of other things. It's also about self improvement, productivity, and things like that. My name is Joey Schweitzer and this is my channel. I have no clue if any of this helps the algorithm, but I'm doing it anyways for good luck. Better Ideas is also a thing.

I really notice this effect when I attend LARP events where we would live like people from the Middle Ages for several days. I would turn off my phone entirely, not even look at the time etc. So we would tend to the fire, cook stew in a cauldron, talk to people, knit and sew, wander around etc all day long. One night at such an event a friend told me that the priestess was going to stop by our camp to tell some stories by the fire. I was ridiculously excited and couldn't wait. After she had finished telling the first story we begged her to tell another one and another one. I was so amazed how hearing some stories by the fire could suddenly be the highlight of my day simply because there was no constant overstimulation.

@@Bennettone there is nothing wrong with dopamine. It's not the chemical that's the issue, it's the misuse of it. As was explained in the video, we can receive hits of dopamine from anything that we think will reward us. So why not retrain that mechanism to benefit us more. Instead of being slaves to self-esteem shredders like social media, we can start learning a skill. That's a positive shift in the application of the dopamine chemical. We can finish a book or create something. That is so much more healthy of a dopamine hit. Dopamine is not a dirty word, and it is totally misunderstood

I remember this, it was a time where social media wasn’t as prevalent. I remember my older sister playing the games on Facebook. FarmVille. WolfQuest was another favorite of hers. I played Scribblenauts, Webkinz, Clubpenguin, NeedforSpeed, MarioKart, etc. I can’t say any of it was bad for me other than having a lack of sleep, but I’ve always stayed up late, no matter what there was to stimulate me. I miss having a small backyard and living in a close community. Having neighborhood friends and finding shenanigans to do with them is more enjoyable than anything. I moved out West in the state later in my childhood and it just caused me to be more reclusive. The atmosphere was slow and the ways of life seemed to have aged.

think about it this way, the enjoyment you get out of dopamine and any other chemical doesn't make you feel better the more you have in your system, its a bell curve. if you dont have enough dopamine, you'll feel awful, but if you have too much dopamine you'll feel just as bad if not worse. the key is to find where the peak of the bell curve is and do things that bring you to the peak, and by having meaningful experiences and being present in the moment you will never exceed its threshold.

Tasks seem difficult when you're only looking for how they help your personal goals and ambitions.
Getting through "mundane" tasks is easier when you focus on how to be loving to others with your work, and take very good care of yourself in the process! Something that helps me is - when something frustrating or unpleasant confronts me, I silently remind myself "I'm only here to love", and my perspective shifts.
By "love" I just mean being good to others, prioritizing their well-being, and taking care of myself in the process. For example, if I'm screwing bolts onto a car in a production line, focusing on how to better people's lives (in this case, realizing how securing the bolts safely will protect children's lives, etc.) rather than thinking about how bored I am or what I'm missing out on.
Easier said than done, I know. Shitty bosses, inflexible and painful work, living paycheck to paycheck, etc. Life is hard, but everything we do has an impact, and if we make life better for others and take care of ourselves, we can have a better impact in this life.

    1. Find a good level of stimulation (physically, socially, mentally) daily
    2. Going too low or too high on the stimulation meter will put you off balance, and create negative momentum making you feel worse in the long run
    3. Allow room for pleasure and high stimulating experiences or life will become dull and your drive will diminish quickly

Believe it or not, this might be the most important post you'll read
Everyone of us has broken God's moral law, the Ten Commandments. We have all lied, stolen, hated and lusted. And James 2:10 states that breaking one of the Commandments makes us guilty of breaking them all. Problem is, we can never outweigh our sins through good works because the Creator is perfect in Holiness, meaning His standard is far above ours. And He is also perfect in Justice, meaning not a single sin will go unpunished. And the punishment of sin is being cast into hell, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth with no end. Ever.
Fortunately, God is also perfect in love, so 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ left His throne in Heaven and came to this earth as a man. He lived a perfect, sinless life and He so loved us, that He took the punishment of our sin, when He suffered horribly on the cross. Isaiah 53 tells us that his face was marred beyond recognition and that he suffered more than any man. But right before His death, Jesus said "It is finished" meaning the the debt for our sins was paid in full. But on the 3rd day, Jesus conquered death and He was resurrected. So that means now, we can go free from the wrath of God's judgment not by earning it, but rather as a free gift of grace, if you accept Jesus. But, a gift can either accepted or rejected.
So if you want to accept the free gift or forgiveness, of grace, and of salvation, this is what you should do:
Humbly admit to God that you have sinned against Him, and through gratitude in the sacrifice of His Son, repent (turn away) from your old sinful ways. Then, confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, your Savior. Believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and was resurrected 3 days later. Roman's 10:9 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 says that if you do this you are saved. I'm not telling you to get religious, because Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with God. Religion says DO, but Jesus Christ says DONE! Ephesians 2:8-9 says For it is by grace we are saved through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast.
And the moment you do this, God will grant you a new heart, which does not take pleasure in sin and He will give you eternal life. Nothing on this earth even close to compares to what awaits believers.
What you do with this information will determine where you will be for Eternity; meaning accepting Christ is the single most important decision you'll EVER make. And all of us here, believer or atheist, know that this is very true.
Jesus Christ wants YOU to come to Him this very moment; don't even think about sleeping until you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, because your tomorrow isn't guaranteed. You could die at any moment. Hebrews 9: 27 "It is appointed unto man once to die, but after this, the Judgment."
All praise and honor to Jesus Christ, King of kings, Lord of lords.

I like to think of it as "downshifting" my brain. When I'm chasing stimulation, social media food, etc., it feels like my brain is in a higher gear, and if I try to slow down and do something valuable but less stimulating like writing, it just kills the engine. But if I avoid the mindless scrolling and eating for a while, and only do those things mindfully, with a purpose, my brain downshifts, and I can find pleasure in what's important to me. The ways we have to hack our brains now.

Overstimulation destroyed my peace of mind. I was deep into it. I think it started during corona lockdowns. Examples (some of them will be cringe): watching netflix and simultaneously watching youtube videos on smartphone + reading comments; ordering domins pizzas at 1am and binging on netflix tv shows; edging for one-two hours while watching porn on smartphone and youtube videos on smart tv on the same time; playing playstation and listening audio books; watching youtzbe videos and reading comments at the same time..what was the worse is that these affected my state of mind 24/7, not just when I was practicing it. I have my old life and my peace of mind back now, by doing few things:
Bought extra flip phone and gave number only to close persons, so smartphone is off during non bussines hours; deleted ALL social media accounts; completely quit multitasking, whether online or not. Doing one thing at a time and being mindful about it was the most important step. I also stopped eating and doing something else..like youtube or newspapers. Now I just sit and eat like a normal human being.

What's really important to see here is how for capitalism to work there has to be constant growth. That's why once our basic needs were fulfilled the companies worked hard to create more needs to induce more consumption. Social media isn't there mainly to serve us, it's there to keep us glued to the screen as long as possible so that we watch more ads and so that they collect more data. Addiction isn't the byproduct it's the goal. This works for the junk food industry, for social media and for all of our useless consumption. And so you see how it was important for them that we're all isolated, each in his own little appartment, not knowing our neighbours, not having many friends, because that's what will drive netfix sales up, that's what will drive up food deliveries, that's what will make them sell us more drugs etc. This isn't just about an individual it's the entire society that's wired like this and we need to come back to our senses.

I've told this in the comments of another video before but it fits so well under this one...
One year ago I went on holidays with family and family-friends to a cottage (or cabin? idk) in the Austrian alps... There was no data/internet connection at the place we stayed (on the mountaintops on the other hand it was perfect - we sent messages there sometimes) so all of our phones were pretty much unusable for a whole week. We went hiking, played games, cooked and had a lot of fun together. Or just read a book alone outside with the noises of the nearby well and cow- bells in the background.
I remember that week as the most peaceful, grounded and happy I've felt in a long time (or even ever), I can't even explain it lol... That just really shows the effect you discribed in the video that the constant overstimulation had on my mindset and how this 'forced' phone detox helped my brain to be stimulated enough by normal human stuff so that that made me incredibly happy.
After we returned back home to our normal daily lives I didn't feel the need or any urge to returm to the internet for a few days but unfortunately the daily routine kicked in quickly and I went back to the pre holiday mindset.
Anyways, if you have the chance to do something similar to that I can 100% recommend as this holiday really stood out as one of my favorite ones!

If you die tonight, do you know where you're going? Did you know that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven and He loves you?
Through Him, God offers you a FREE gift - forgiveness. All you need to do is repent, turn away from your sins and evil ways,
from now on put your faith completely in Jesus Christ and be obedient to Him.
      Explanation:
God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why
we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go
there. (Matthew 12:30) ''Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not
gather with me scatters.'' He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteouss, but
rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam
sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we’ve all sinned.
(Romans 3:23) and the law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23). For
someone to be justified before God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ.
None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all
have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us
are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is
guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10). ‘’For God so
loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16) That’s why only Jesus can
save us, because He lived a perfect and sinless life and is the only worthy
sacrifice and died for our sins. We aren’t saved based on our good
deeds/works, but only by the grace of God through faith.
''For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -
not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
He said ‘’it is finished’’ (John 19:30), which means He paid the fine for our sins
(past, present, future) to be forgiven if we repent and trust in Him.
‘’Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that
times of refreshing may come from the Lord.’’ (Acts 3:19) Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin.
Repentance is a turning from sin, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8). While sorrow from sin is
not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Do not play a hypocrite.
(John 3:3) Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
If you confess that Jesus is Lord (John 10:30) and believe that God raised Him from the dead, then you’ll be saved. (Romans 10:9)
You are born again with the spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)
Bible is the Word of God. You may ask how so because it is written by men. Just like a letter is written by a pen,
so is Bible written by God using men. Bible/God's Word was written over 1600 year period by 40 different authors and 66 books, all leading to the coming of God's Son - Jesus Christ. There is consistency of revelation throughout a long time of period, many prophecies being fulfilled.
In the Book of Isaiah you see details about how Jesus Christ suffered even if it was written a long time before His coming.
In the Book of Daniel 500 BC you can read about Alexander the great who lived 300 BC.
We are living in the last days and Jesus Christ will return soon.
2 Timothy 3:1 ''But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.''
2 Timothy 3:2 ''For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,''
Luke 21:11 ''There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.''
1 Thessalonians 5:3 ''While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.''
Matthew 24:39 ''And they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.''
Luke 21:31 ''So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.''
2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 ''Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.''
Revelation 13:16-18 ''And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.''
Matthew 24:21 ''For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.''
1 Thessalonians 4:16 ''For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.''
Matthew 24:19 ''But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!''
Matthew 24:42 ''Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.''
Mark 1:15 ''The time has come," Jesus said. "The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!"'
Get right with God and start your relationship with Jesus Christ right now before it’s too late, because there’s not much time left!. "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.’’ (Mark 13:32)
You may start with a simple prayer from the bottom of your heart, TRULY believing that God listens and
cares. (Jeremiah 29:13) ''You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.''
Get to know Christ through His word. At first I recommend reading Gospel of John and book of Romans. God bless you!
