      Hey, I don’t know if you would consider a “supercut” of the tower project, like Wyloch did with his full Tomb of Horrors and White Plume Mountain builds, but if you do, count on several views from me, I love having crafting project videos on in the background while I’m crafting. Either way, thanks for all that you do!

      For those wondering about the cassette purchase from the BMG website: I bought mine on the 3rd (the day the video was posted) along with a couple of block prints. I live in Canada one province away, and just got the package at noon of the 5th. comes with a download card for Bandcamp. The Cassette and the insert are just beautiful, and I can't wait for more of these Dungeon Crawls that I can put next to this one on my shelf, hopefully in the near future. Great music Jeremy, thank you!

    I think 5e is great for most people, but if you're into settings/rules that reflect specific themes and styles, you're much better off looking for something that specifically deals with that. BMC's aesthetic is miles removed from 5e's mainstream aesthetic and it's good for you to focus on what delivers what you actually want

    • @johnnybigbones4955
      @johnnybigbones4955 Před 7 dny +2

      5e is fine, but it sort of rules out certain playstyles without hacking it pretty extensively and is VERY high magic sort of built into the setting. If I was gonna run it I'd probably run something like Adventures in Middle Earth which makes it much lower magic and at the same time opens up a lot of the playstyles that are erased by the ubiquity of various utility spells like goodberry.

  • @gasmonkey1000
    @gasmonkey1000 Před 9 dny +8

    Who hasn't at this point? Clownfish TV said that it's meant for theatre kids now, and honestly having spoken to such people I think they failed at even that. They cut out all the edge. If there's no conflict, no stakes, no edge then why would you fight? D&d is a combat and exploration game at its core, and they've carved out all the evil.
    They made it too easy for people to play. There's too many ways to cheat death. And inevitably someone is gonna say "just use the old books." You could but if something is new people expect it to be better than the previous product.
    Also your dungeon synth kicks ass, God bless ya man.
    Ya ever tried Burning Wheel?

      I'm a dungeon crawler, combat scenario guy at heart...I can only handle so much fluffy exposition and role play dialogue.

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos Před 8 dny +1

      @@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Something else that you might consider that is remaining inside the more D&D umbrella (I'd ended up stuck in it with a few game exceptions where it took a lot of effort to get people to try other things, and those were mainly Star Wars and StarGate which still used D20 though in different ways), is to look into the D&D Adventure System games. They're, essentially, a heavily streamlined version of the 4e rules turned into a board game with a lot of randomized elements that work well, and those elements expand a LOT if you combine the different games because they're all made to be compatible with each other (In fact, the first two games kind of end up unbalanced without the other due to the spread of things...and the third is more of a stand alone while still being able to work with the rest of them).
      There's either 6 or 7 games in the line and each also comes with a LOT of minis, though they're largely unpainted versions of old WotC (and later WizKids) D&D minis that are color coded for easier use, though they do paint up really well.
      It's also worth it to invest in card sleeves for it, at least each of the first sets had a "promo" card that was handed out at events which a lot of places have the image of, and used to also be on the WotC site where you could print them out and sleeve them (along with the other monster cards) to have a bonus monster that was a more generic version of one of the bigger boss monsters.
      I'd found it an easier way to get people to mess around with a game because it kind of straddles between an RPG and boardgame in play, so easily gets people on the fence in while still having some of the proper feel so it's still familiar in other ways.
      It's also more of a pure dungeon crawl.

      @@BlackMagicCraftOfficialit's a criticism of modern companies trying to appeal to the "modern audience" or trying to make their product mainstream or appeal to a new demographic. In the process they lose the niche appeal and uniqueness of the product that brought in the original fans and they tend to sacrifice the quality of the product to do it.
      In short something made specifically to be great for a few people is better than something made to be ok or tollerable for everyone.

    My biggest issue with current d&d is that there’s this no limitations (which may sound strange) I feel like those earlier editions of d&d/ 80s adventure style games forced you to get more creative simply because there were limited number of races/classes to play. So when a character really stood out it really meant something, now it feels like it’s the standard to make the most quirky/zany character every time rather than having fun with the simple archetypes that started it all. Obviously this is purely opinion, but I feel like the original core of d&d is a bit lost compared to the old sword and sorcery genre that it came from. Idk I’m just rambling at this point but I too have lost touch with d&d and am looking for new systems. Mörk Börg is great and I’ve been wanting to try out Dungeon Crawl Classics for a while now

    Cassettes are cool. Always have been. Here in the UK, lots of bands, even big ones, have started releasing new material on tape.
    Last year, I found a case of blank 90 minute tapes in a charity shop. I could only take six ten packs out of it; I couldn't fit any more in my bag. I paid £6, went home, and came back to get some more - and in 45 minutes, the rest of the case had been sold. So someone is using tape again, and I was secretly pleased that they were. I work in a scrapyard, and got a beautiful Technics tapedeck a few weeks back. Nothing wrong with it, other than the fuse in the plug had blown. I showed my manager and asked him how much. He gave his usual reply:
    "How much change have you got in your pockets right now?"
    I had £4.75.
    "Sold!" he said.

    Always nice to get your creative juices going !! Might I suggest something non-fantasy , like Call of Cthulhu :) As for myself , I would like to try a Forgotten Realms setting , actually picked it up over on DMsguild , called Doomed Forgotten Realms . Basically in a nutshell , from the past released adventure books , the villains won , so the Forgotten Realms as we once knew is changed and behind it all is none other than Vecna .
    Regardless of what you choose , I am sure it will be fun :)

    I'm really glad to see you get back to actually playing RPGs for fun! Light, flavorful games like Mork Borg, The Black Hack, etc will help you spend less time balancing stats and more time dreaming up cool, heavy metal stuff to explore with your friends

  • @Slurgical_3D_Terrain_Channel

    Hey cool about Tenebris. I love that word. I’m getting into creating medieval terrain, taking a small break from making videos and terrain for Sci-fi gaming. I have been listening to your soundtrack while designing that Mordheim style terrain.

    Hi Jeremy! I'm glad you are able to find time to enjoy rpgs again (they rock). I also agree (as a DM for my friend group) that 5e suuuucks with its book layout (spellcasters are a pain to set up). I think something you might find cool is a game compatible with MORK BORG called forbidden psalm: Last War. its a grim WWI themed setting that has lots of potential to be adapted to tell some great dark stories.

    For me the best of a player's book had to be FASA's Star Trek. For character creation it was just awesome, they went through the steps in order and clearly showed where every number went on the character sheet. Nostalgia you wicked Mistress! Look forward to your next video! :)

    Shadowdark would be the best 'blank slate' that you could EASILY bring over C&S and MB material into.

    Excited to see what new terrain you create. I stopped with D&D a year ago and am running other systems now (Have you looked into Symbaroum?). I was kind of hoping you would move into more sci-fi stuff since I plan to swap to Stars Without Number next year after we wrap up our Symbaroum game.

    Dude I'm RIGHT THERE with you. I went with Shadowdark for my group and started putting together a hex crawler style campaign I'm calling Shards of Evil. Your Idols of Torment soundtrack is literally PERFECT ambient music for that game.
    While I'm not into the Dungeonsynth as it reminds me a little too much of Midnight Syndicate which I'm not the biggest fan of, I would LOVE to know what bands were the inspiration behind Idols of Torment, that album is so perfect for Shadowdark it feels intentional.
    If anyone has more like Idols let me know, I'm on the hunt!

    You got any recommendations for getting into making dungeon synth? My wife and I are classical guitarists normally so we're used to sheet music and the like, but anything digital is kinda strange. Only recently have gotten into recording some of our stuff.

    Glad that you are getting back into the hobby. My wife and I have been without a group for several years now as people have moved away. There's nothing like a good face to face role-playing group. And yes, you will want to play something with actual rules, unlike 5e.

    I ran a 5E D&D game for almost 2 full years and D&D has been with me since the early 80's but lately have grown to love the Vampire the Masquerade game I have been part of for about 16 months. I have also found that D&D while still near and dear to my heart no longer captures my attention and have even recently put all my 5E books up for sale. My dream TTRPG is taking Kingdom Death: Monster and reworking it into a RPG with all the dark gritty and horror that KD:M brings

    Stumbled onto dungeon synth a few months back and now I have a whole playlist of various albums and individual songs. Love the genre. Brings back Sega Genisis and old 1980s sword & sorcery movie memories. The OST to Idols of Torment is great and Guardians of the 7th Tower is part of my dungeon synth playlist. Both are bangers.
