Smith would have to buy the rights to that logo from the owners of the ECHL team, and I don't think that happens.
The cutthroat trout is the Utah State Fish. Personally, I think it would sound a lot better if the name was the Utah Cutthroats with a mean trout as the logo.

Both would be among my favorite possibilities (at the very least, better than Yeti, Blizzard, Venom, Outlaws, and probably the worst, Utah HC - what is this, soccer??) . I've seen many rile against the possibility of "cutthroats" due to interpreting it as a bad innuendo in hockey - bad juju... but there already are hockey teams out there with the name (Denver Cutthroats is a minor league team for instance).

The copper color on some of these jerseys would be an awesome way to pull one more thing about Utah. The Kennecot Copper Mine is a huge mine here so that would be awesome.
Yeah, the copper is awesome. The green/teal that you see in some of these concepts is the color of oxidized copper.
The Grizzles is our current minor league hockey team that play in Salt Lake currently.
I wish they just bought the rights to the name and jersey for the NHL. It’s better than any name/jersey mock-ups so far

The NHL currently does not have a single purple colored team, so those Utah Yeti jerseys would go extra hard.

Utah Grizzlies is already an ECHL team here in SLC. Utah Raptor was one of the biggest raptors they've found in archeology here in Utah.

Yeah the Ducks, Oilers, Maple Leafs, and Canucks really strike fear into opponents. Hockey is full of fun names, Trout is just another one of them.

The original thought was Utah Cutthroat. However, with recent events in hockey, that name wouldn't really be appropriate.

The color of the Yeti makes sense. Keeps it line with the Jazz. But the name of the Raptor makes sense being that that’s the actual name of a dinosaur found in Utah 🦖
I like Yetis plural because there's more than one Yeti. It would be like calling them the Utah Cat instead of Utah Cats, or Chicago Bear instead of Chicago Bears.
Or calling the college team the Stanford Cardinal...oh wait
@@matriculatethefootball But that's referring to the color, (Cardinal Red) not to the bird. Arizona Cardinals is the bird. Penguins, Bucks, Bears, Cubs, Panthers, Ravens, Falcons, Bengals, Broncos, Lions, Colts, Jaguars, Rams, Vikings, Eagles, Dolphins, Seahawks...... All are plural. Yetis is the way to go.

Utah resident here, I think the light blue is definitely a very cool way to go about things but Utah is a super diverse area especially when it comes to northern and Southern utah, I’ve talked with buddies and we’ve all agreed that having the light blue as home colors would be awesome to represent the northern side of things, but a red rock color for the away jersey would be just as cool to represent the southern side of things. That’s my two cents It’s definitely exciting to see what they decide to do.
That is why, I think Bighorns would be the best name. You could work those colors you mentioned, ideally with that type logo. The kids would love a Bighorn sheep, and it would sell crazy good, souvenir/jersey wise.

"The Outlaws" reminds me of the old USFL (United States Football League).
That was the first thing I thought of too. Played a year in Tulsa, then merged with the Arizona Wranglers to become the Arizona Outlaws. The Wranglers had some nice unis as well. Probably one of the best I've ever seen!
I really liked the venom sweater best but instead of venom id prefer The Utah Rattlers instead of venom. Also the mammoth sweater was freaking sweat . My vote is for mammoth!

I think purple should be a team color for Utah. It's not common in the NHL and it would be consistent with the Jazz.

When a Walmart was being built in Orem, Utah a Mammoth skeleton was found on the site.

The Raptors uni was oustanding, but there is a Pioneer League Baseball team in Ogden, not far from Salt Lake City.

Memphis & Toronto in the NBA are the grizzlies & raptors also so there is going to be push back there from the NBA for those names.

Name: Yeti (singular). Logo: Muscular upper body of a mean looking abominable snowman with "Utah" at the bottom and mountain peaks and blowing snow behind it. Colors: Light Blue with White Trim (back has mountain peaks running across the top of the shoulders). Mascot: Abominable Snowman, only with a smile on its face (for the kids). Merchandise: A gold mine with Yeti everything. Take it from the Raptors: Dinosaurs and other Big Creatures are money.

I like the second Outlaws design the best. Maybe experiment with the colors a little - try swapping the blue for the copper from the first one and see how that looks.
Utah Venom and the 2nd Outlaws logos are dope and my top 2 choices.

Mamouth, and Vipers jersey would be a hit. Trout name and jersey will make them a joke of the league

You also have to consider nicknames, generally 3 characters or first sylabol, Mams, Outs, Yets, etc

I think when looking at a future NHL logo you need to;
A. Not tell everyone what you are. That means you don’t need the team name in the logo. Look at the NHL how many teams have their name in their logo?
B. You don’t need to tell everyone you’re a hockey team. You don’t need a hockey stick or puck to inform the viewer it’s for a hockey team.
C. Colors need to be unique. I like Powder Blue, Deep Purple, Metallic Yellow as a color scheme. Very unique as most teams in the NHL team to stay away from them and it would be strict to Utah.
The Viper concept , with the Trout colorway... that would be sick! Reminds me of the Ultimate Warrior haha

How about an angry bee with Venom nickname? The bee and beehive are part of Utah iconography. (and Mormons as well.) In such a scenario, you could have "The Hive" as a nickname for the arena. Or, Utah Sting?
Mammoths are extinct but so are sabre-tooth tigers (Nashville Predators).

The Yeti and the Venom was the best two. I really like venom, however red isn’t a color I think of when I hear the word Utah. That Yeti one is fire 🔥🔥🔥. The color combination is perfect! The teal blue, purple and that bronze (brown???) fits in perfectly. Not to mention the fact that the color scheme seems to fit Utah better than the venom color scheme. My vote would definitely be Yeti

If a city has both a college and professional teams (multiple teams), most of the time the professional teams will have a similar colors/color scheme. While the college team may have the same color scheme, or they may do their own thing. The Islanders, Rangers and knicks has blue as a primary color, while the colleges in NY all have different colors schemes. The pirates, Steelers and penguins are black and yellow/gold, but the university is blue and gold. The raiders and the aces have black has their primary color. I know UNLV does have black uniforms, but their color scheme is primarily red. I get what you’re saying, but I think most people tend to separate college teams from professional teams. Which is why the Yeti is perfect because it goes with the Jazz color scheme
I’d call them the #UtahDoubleBlacks or #UtahBlackDiamonds in reference to the double black diamonds and extreme skiing. Keep the TROUT COLORS bc skiers use bright colors. Professional athletes supporting other local athletes. Imagine all the ski school for kids or adaptive skiing

Like Yetis, I'd drop the S from Mammoths. Utah Mammoth. It indicates size as well as the animal and rolls off the tongue better.
4:04 Love the late 90's Jazz icescape, and the glacier blue really makes the jersey pop. Hope they go with it. Would be unique to the NHL, just like Sharks' teal, 90's Mighty Ducks eggplant, 90's Lightning indigo blue trim, NFL Eagles 90's kelly green and Dolphins original mint/

Mammoth really is the best name option I've seen out there but I dont think they will go with it, that logo is alright but with some refining it could be really great. Probably will be blizzard or yeti in the end unfortunately

The 2nd Outlaw Concept could add a red bandana and the brown(or copper) hat ... maybe iconic like the Blackhawk logo
Here are my top 5 team names- Cobras, Venom, Outlaws, Scorpions, Dragons. I like
Bighorns and Bobcats as honorable mentions. The Venom jersey was awesome!! They should consider it. Love the light blue!!! Hope they use a unique color combination.
I live in Utah and my high school colors were the exact colors used for the Utah Blizzard concept.
The yeti one is dope and I think if we do the Blizzard one because thats the coolest name and give it the Trout colour scheme that would be amazing

A purple base along with copper, white and light teal would be really slick. Utah Mammoth, Utah Yeti or my personal favorite the Utah Swarm would be nice names.
Trout should change to Cutthroats. I also heard ‘Black Diamonds’ out there as a name.
That Utah Grizzlies name, logo, and jersey is already used by the Utah Grizzlies ECHL team. No way they are going to use the same logo and name as the local minor league hockey team.
The point of Colby creating this concept was that the NHL team would buy out the ECHL brandinf

That's what's so annoying about these videos and most of the comments. They're not from people in Utah so they don't know of the Grizzlies. Or the Bees, because they keep suggesting Bee related names
