- NOTE: If you rebuild your wing glasses be sure and get the correct rubber as the 70's and 80's is different and therefore have different rubber. Check the video to see the difference at the 3:23 mark.
The rusted out part is at the 19:27 mark.

Bob gives a whole new meaning to the saying, “Built! Not bought.” The ol’ JYD is looking mighty fine! 😎
"I'm not your average guy"
No Bob, you most certainly are not. What you are is a guy who seems to have near limitless patience with knowledge and wisdom to match and I don't think I've ever heard you curse or be phased by a problem.
And long may it continue!
The truck is looking mighty respectable Bob! Well done!!!
what a pleasure to watch a REAL mechanic at work.
Thanks for all your videos. This window channel work has been of great help
I’m 76 and still truckin in my 70 Chevy
I need to do the windows. You helped me thanks BOB! Precuate ya !
Looking great BOB 👍 👌
Bawb You have the Patience of a Saint
Those window scratches will polish out
I've searched CZcams for hrs trying to find a video showing how to remove all of door glass and replace. Thanks!
Here's my door glass and latch removal video from a few months ago.
czcams.com/video/r5kzdHztZM8/video.html
I've recently made the switch from buying new to fixing everything, because I know the price of everything is only going to get worse. People that fix things are going to excel. Thanks for teaching people, Bob :)
This is true. I recently started to chunk a microwave oven because it started acting up and then went online for some training. Turns out it was only a stuck micro switch on the door and after opening and slamming it shut a few times the problem was solved.
@@RatRodBobBuilds exactly! I had the same type of issue with a pressure washer (the cheap green one from harbor freight). A little electrical switch malfunctioned inside, my instinct was to throw it away and get a new one, but it was a very simple fix. It's strange that Americans don't repair anything anymore, even environmentalists throw everything away that malfunctions.
Great video Bob, that wing vent took some delicate work. I'm pretty sure I would have broken something. 😂😂
Looking good, truck has come a long way
You have extreme patience Bob.
I like ole Bob, just plain spoken
I don’t think that there is a mechanism you can’t fix nice work brother hope the other side goes well !!!!!
Dang Bob I’ve enjoyed this build from day 1!!! Keep up all this amazing work my friend
You got the patience of Jobe.
*Nice work Bob.* Glad to see you're making progress. Have fun, be safe and happy wrenching 🔧🔩
Dang Bob talk about hafin' to hold your mouth and tongue just right through this whole video here and I just wanto add that is freakin' amazin' and beautiful Bob
Easy Peezy, anybody can do it 😂. Got to love you Bob!
You are doing a great job sir the youngest boy Cody is getting ready to get started on his 71 gmc so he is enjoying the build a lot we been watching on the tv so we haven’t been able to comment till we get on the phone but keep up the good work thank you sir
Thanks brother! And tell Cody I'm rooting for him and it's a piece of cake but in real life it's a PITA and I already fell his pain when he draws blood on a sharp edge of the truck. I still have scars, especially from sharp metal corners under the dash. But when it's all said a done ... he'll be all healed up and feeling good about what he's accomplished and ready for the next one.
We are the lucky ones because when you think about it, each build is a different exciting learning experience. Makes you feel sorry for the guys working the assembly lines.
I did my Ranchero , what a pain in the ass. IT WAS Worth IT IN THE END . I found a repair kit for the busted latch knob on Ebay. The glass will polish out with the right stuff
Love your build’s Bob , great looking truck
Truck is looking good Bob. Keep up the great work. I love that truck.
👍Gittin’ it done… Good update! Thx for the video Bob 👋 👋 👋
Turned out sweet Bob, taking almost 50 year old stuff apart is not easy, a lot of it was holding on by a thread but you got it, i knew you would, lol, looking forward to doing my 55 truck, the spring is not holding the window open going down the road, so your video will help, catch you soon
As a young kid, I was loosening a window regulator inside the door with a ratchet...well, the next day, I was looking for a new window glass at he junkyard. I barely tapped the glass with the handle of the ratchet and I then had 2" of safety glass at the bottom of the door to vacuum up. I still think about that each time I'm working on door glass.
I'm a heavy equipment operator by trade and most of the new ones with enclosed cabs come with a small pointed hammer inside just incase you need to break the glass.
I’m just going to say killing it 🎉
That is some insight. Never new how or even that it could be done. Enjoyed yet another video. Thank you Bob. God is in the details. God bless.
"NOT YOUR AVERAGE GUY", YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!
That is some finicky work Bob, turned out real nice 👍
Great job on the vent window repair job. I’ve got some stuff to fix like that.
Great job patience of Jobe haha
Love the way jyd is coming out , keep getting it done , can't wait to see it finished going to be awesome 👍
Looking great Bob!
Nice job not breaking that glass. Wonder how many guys have replacing those seals a few I would imagine. Keep up the great work
See you next time. Take care!👍🏻
Thanks brother! It's another one of those PITA jobs that you're real glad you've done without loosing your religion. Well in all honesty I did use more than one four letter words.
Thanks Bob! I need to do the same thing to my 1967 Nova. The rubbers are all cracked.
Thanks amazing Bob
Shoe 🇺🇸
Wow,I enjoyed that video, you have the patience of a saint Bob,pretty sure I would've broken the glass while trying to do that
That's one thing I wish my 05 1500 had...wing windows..not a rat anymore BAWB that Dawgs a daily driver for sure
MAN that turned out nice. Good job Bob I really like watching fix up the Junk Yard Dog. Its looking great.
Looks like a giant PITA, but you gotter done, Bob. I don't know about the weather in Mississippi, but we're a little cooler up north. You and Elvira seem to be toasty down there.
Yes ... pretty mild temps down here right now.
Man you do great work.
Haven't seen Red lately someone told me he ran off and joined the circus.
Flying trapeze. 👀
Thank you for this detailed rebuild. I’ve got a 1971 f350 waiting for this procedure.
Rat Rod BOB Looking better & Better. Like I said before the only thing wrong with the truck is its not mine. I’m really digging it like Red.
Alot of tedious work but well worth the effort, nice job Bawb
I love wing glass
I did this nightmare of a job this summer 😬 you have my sympathy 😂😂
I like it boss, See ya next time.
Looking good Bob 👍👍
This is a killer build, Bob!
Awesome video. Love these instructional videos you do. Wing windows are cool and yours look great. Look forward to next time and seeing the front clip get back on. Be safe and stay well.
Just winging it... just now got it. Thanks for sharing your time and resources to post such great content. Best of Good Health, Long Life and Prosperity for the New Year going forward to You and Yours.👍
trick to the rubber is boil pot of water, like skinning a hog. Hey that vevor plasma works awesome thank you and Red
Yes sir that early seventies unit is very close to the unit design used in the early seventies (67-72) trucks and of course you are showing the eighties design which I feel is a little better. As you know a lot of those units would twist off as the spring loaded shaft would rust up and people would still try to operate them as if they were new. I have had to gingerly cherry that nut up in order to get it to come free or else I will twist that shaft off. Compared to the price of getting those vent window assemblies from suppliers it is of course to one's advantage to fix them up. Course it does help to have a fair stock of used assemblies to make up good vent window assemblies. Of course this is what it is all about and your skill in remaking and reusing a lot of assemblies is fun to watch.
I've rebuilt a few of these myself. I ran into the same issues you did. But in the end they worked great. Nice work Bob 👍. Always look forward to seeing your videos!
Wow! Great instructional video! I have a low mileage 79 G10 windowless shorty van with a RV crate engine. My wing windows will only stay open with a small bungee cord, I knew there was a fix! Thanks!
So true things don't go easy fixing them , as I've have found out on my projects, but you did great on the side window 🤙👍🏽
I hear ya! We all read about it and watch videos and then say to ourselves ... that don't look so hard. But in the real world .....
Wow that was some good work there professor Bob if I need some done ill send them to you. 👍
I like the scratches in the glass it’s adds character , your truck is looking great . Very nice , very nice 👍👍
Shawn
Very useful information
That's so nice. Great work
That turned out nice, good job. About ready for a burn out.
Oh yea ... stress test is mandatory!
Another great video Bob. Lot's of work goes into fixin up the old truck but it has tons of quality in it, so it's worth it! God Bless!
Hey Bawb, You have the patience to beat the JYD into submission, don't know that many of us have that in us anymore!! Great video showing the all the work you put into these builds!!! Hope you have a very good New Year!!!!
Yea I went the extra mile on this one.
this is how skills outweigh money , excellent
Well said!
Looking and working good Bob as always. ✌️😎👍
Hey Bob, you can saturate the gasket on those wings and door glass channels with varsol and run an olfa knife down each side of the glass and it breaks down the gasket seal and the glass comes out easy. I used to do auto glass and we did that all the time, always worked like a charm. Give it a try next time you tackle the job and see how it works for you.
Thanks Dan, that's good info I'll use next go around.
LOOKING GOOD.👍👍👍🏁🏁🏁
Thanks for checking in Robert.
You got way more patience than me! You ain't skeered to tackle anything
So now at this point there's not one thing on this truck that I haven't disassembled. The long journey is about to come to a close.
Hey Bob, I enjoy your videos and how you figure out how to fix instead of purchase stuff. Most of us learned from guys like you and I use tricks I got from the best old time mechanics back in the day. You're gettin' it.
Thanks Max! I could've made a trip to a friends shop and got another wing glass but I love the challenge of fixing things. Even when I was a computer tech my favorite thing was debugging.
Neat stuff. Enjoyed watching. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
looks good , i done my vent windows not to long ago , see you on the next one
I would have broke the glass you are good .
Great attention to detail Bob, keep up the great work.
Lookin good my friend.
Your video work is really getting good 👍
NICE! Happy New Year Bob,
Nice work. Thanks for sharing the info.👍.
Fantastic !!! great great job 👍👍👍
Thanks for the lesson Bob. I'm learning something new every video 👍🇺🇸
great vid mate.
Great job/tutorial. You're the one. 👍
Thanks very nice video I really enjoy your content
Uncle Bob, you have the patience of a saint! Man, who would have thought a wind wing would have so many danged parts! I like how you did the micro welding surgery on it. 👍👍
Nice.
Dang Bob...you deserve a... Patience of the year award sir! Wonderful job you did though. Man the ole Junk Yard Dawg is surely gonna be a badass beast. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Thank you for sharing Bob. You always keep me riveted to the screen. Keep On Keeping On Brother!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I hope you and yours Christmas was great. An wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year Bob!!! Keep up the awesome content sir!!! Thank you!!!
Good job.
Thanks, been meaning to get around to doing my c20 wing windows.
Good luck and try to keep the adult beverages far from arms length. LOL
Hey Bawb,
That was a lot of tedious work ya dun there.
But ya got er dun !
Ya musta sent Red off on a mission to keep him out of the way.
For that scratched glass.
As a kid building model cars, I found that cheap toothpaste on a flannel rag worked great as a rubbing compound on the paint.
At fifteen I built my first hot rod, it had scratched door glass.
I used the old toothpaste rubbing compound on it and it looked like new !
Red may have an old tube of Colgate white toothpaste kickin round, I feel it works best, but any paste type will do.
Ya may want to add a lil water as a lubricant.
Give it a try.
We gettin it !
Thanks ... I'll try a spot.
My 80 Chevy didn't have locking wing glass ?
Happy New Year right Bob I've been watching all your videos I like your content I like the way that that you proceed with everything bless you and your family
I appreciate that!
Ain't got it yet but I'm getting it!
g looking good R R Bob
When playing with glass rubber seals...WD40 is your friend.
I'm gonna have to do that to many doors this year so this is very helpful 👍🏼 also looking forwars for the front clip installation...i'm changing to later clip.
Cool! I'm not videoing all the details on the front clip but I can tell ya that the fenders have lots of bolts and some are in hidden away places. If they don't pull right off you have another bolt somewhere. The rest is easy.

"to make it slide in a little easier, I put a little Vaseline on this area up here." words of wisdom as usual. But these days people say to stick to water based lubes 😅
I'm sure soapy water would work too but all is well here!
My man 50 grand. 👌😉✌
i dont like the square look of the finder opening for the tires, so i cut them out and welded in 68 rounder looking finder opening. on the bed too. i think the square body looks way better with round finder openings. people are always asking what year is my truck.. lol
It's always fun changing up our rides and making them our own.
👍🏼🍻
