How to rebuild/repair the starter motor on an older Honda ATV. Model shown is a 1986 Fourtrax 350, but the process is similar for many 1980’s-1990’s Honda three and four wheelers.

I just did this with my 2001 Rubicon. Rebuilding a starter is not complicated but i dont suggest it for anyone who is not at least a little mechanically inclined. Now if they would only start selling a kit for the shift motor, i dread paying the $200 for one of those when its time, and I learned my lesson a long time ago about using the cheaper Chinese replacement stuff. Buy Honda brand parts and you'll only have to replace it once if you're capable of doing it correctly.

what size is the needle bearing? mine has melted and the one in my kit not only doesn't fit well, but is a whole eighth of an inch smaller than the old one.
