Don’t mess with my coffee either. I am not a human being until cup number two or three. So don’t talk to me until then ok😂
You don't get to turn on the coffee untill your bed is made. And if your in the bathroom more than 15 minutes dad is gonna use a belt on your butt and make you wash the breakfast dishes for making everyone late.
1 bathroom 5 bodies have to use it. EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO BE ON TIME. sorry no coffee till you get to work and make it yourself. ( dad was NEVER LATE FOR ANYTHING) and we had a hot breakfast 6 days a week.
Freeze dried coffee is instant coffee :) I know instant coffee gets a bad rap, but truly it has improved SO much over the years.
If you try one brand and don't like it, try a different brand. It's best to try a few different brands before choosing one to stock up on.
Personally I like Nescafe or Taster's choice (medium), but let your tastebuds guide you.
Tuna candle....yeah no, I don't think that particular scent will be coming to a Yankee Candle near you anytime soon. lol.
Hi Kelly, I'm not sure if you have tried Aldi instant coffee or not but it's good. I have stocked both the regular and decaf.
Redmond salt has over 80 minerals and is from a salt mine in Utah. The salt is not stripped of necessary nutrients.
WOW..fantastic info TY!
Pressure canned for the very 1st this morning...I will hold the 🎉🎉🎉 until tomorrow morning
🤞
You've got this! I can't wait to hear if your success
You'll find out it is addicting. It's alot of fun, the worse part is all the prepping. Congratulations on your first try, keep canning❤
Congratulations!!
Awesome, you will see a big reduction in food waste too. I know you will be hooked for life. CONGRATULATIONS!
That’s great!!!! Congratulations 🎉
If you normally don’t eat white rice stock it anyway, you can put it in your grain mill and add a little bit every time to stretch out your wheatberries
I'm with you! Gotta have coffee!! 😋
Tip on storing block cheese: (clean hands, vac seal, store in fridge or cheese "cave" made from a wine fridge). I took a cheese class & they talked about how they made one into a cheese "cave"..😊
That's what I do, but now I have a name for it! Thanks!!
I have froze cheddar cheese & Colby jack cheese in blocks and the cheese has done fine up to 3 month so far. I wouldn't know any longer because my husband eats it up quickly. He is very picky and says it still retains its form and taste. I use the press and seal to cover the cheese then put it in a seal meal bag and seal it up. The press and seal wrap is the best!l it just keeps the cheese from getting ice crystals.
A tip for rice. Parboiled rice retains nearly as many nutrients as brown rice but with the long shelf life of white rice. It also requires less time & less water to prepare which would be handy in a longer term (more than a day or two power outage) emergency when you would be relying on stored water & fuels for cooking.
I'm getting ready to start freeze drying my bone broths. 50 quarts worth! Beef, ham, chicken, vegetarian. And I really need those jars back...
Wild rice lasts forever too I was shocked to learn this one! Love that stuff!
Wild rice is a grass seed not a type of rice. Was first harvested my north American Indian tribes.
Cabbage at 25 cents a pound, bought 10 cabbages and freeze dried them, score!
Sweet!
It really depends on what temperature the whole wheat flour was exposed to, on its way to your house. If it got hot at any point, the shelf life will be 1/8 as long as if it was kept cool the whole time. I've had whole wheat flour last me (once and only once, a fluke) 4 years, and I've also had it last 6 months. The thing is, you won't know what the shelf life is, until it goes rancid.
I just bought 400 pounds of wheat berries, (got my bulk discount, and it was on sale!) and I know they will be good for 5 years at the absolute minimum. I make about a 1000 pounds of bread per year for my family of three, so I'll go through that wheat very fast. Fresh ground wheat is SO GOOD too!
Fresh ground is the best!
❤ my coffee, Maxwell house is my choice. Going to harvest dandelion root & chickory root. Both grow in my yard which is untreated for weeds or pests.
I harvested dandelion and dead nettle today. Made oils and teas.
Barley, quinoa, buckwheat groats and millet last quite a while.
My husband built his own coffee roaster and it's phenomenal!
Used to love cream of wheat and wheatina. Shelf life very good.
Rice, flour is also good to sprinkle on your bread dough, and you can also ferment rice and make hooch
Waiting on that freeze dried sale! Antici.....pation
Thanks Lisa I always learn something when I listen to your videos. No coffee here I save money there.
Yes you do...lol
COFFEE: I have some beans stored up, but let me say that I have used Folgers that is a year past the date. Actually, I"m drinking some now. I also store it in my barn in my feed room in a big set of used kitchen cupboards, NY state - cold most of the year, and it is just fine. I've also had, accidentally, flour about a year past the date, stored in mylar, be fine - but that was a surprise. Sometimes, an accident like losing track of that flour because I had to keep re-arranging, can be a learning experience. But I wouldn't do that on purpose. I have wheat berries.
The big Korean supermarket that we go to has #10 cans of powdered chicken bullion. I think they also have beef but don't quote me.
Nice! They go a long way
I, waiting on this sale to come around to start my thrive life journey. Thank you so much for all you teach us.
Just a few more days :-)
Kind of off topic. I was checking and rotating supplies and pulled out a bucket that had been stacked with two buckets on top. Over time, the weight of the top two buckets had made the lid flex downward a little bit. It was enough to make it very difficult to get the lid to unscrew. I ended up spraying it with a little WD-40 and let it set overnight. The next day I took a piece of wood (to protect the plastic) and a hammer and whacked the part in the center that look like a cross. Slowly and with gentle taps, the lid finally came off. I think that properly applied cuss words also help. So now, when I'm stacking the 5 gallon pails, I run a board along the row on top of each layer of buckets. It redistributes the weight so that it isn't pressing down right on the screw threads.
Brilliant! That’s a great tip! ❤ Noting “properly applied cuss words” may be helpful as well. 🤣🤣
@@joannc147 That rule is useful in many situations, don't you think?
@@GnomeInPlaid 🤣👍🏻
Great tips, thanks! I like butter powder and egg powder for long-term storage ❤
I agree dry beans are better for storage. Grinding your own flour is better and stores better.
I’ve had canned beans and stuff several yrs. 2 yrs that are fine . Unless cans rusted or bulging then toss them. I found a can of bushes I forgot about accidentally that were 3 years and were fine. Lucky I guess. I normally write best by ( bb) date on all cans. But missed one . I worked in food service at a military day care in the kitchen. Had a course a few times. First in first out. (FIFO )
These reminders are awesome. We all forget things and I'm reminded I need to get some honey
I keep flour (white) in my garage fridge in sealed Tupperware containers for 11 plus years at a time I just rotate them when I see it cheap. But there is only 2 in my family now but it works
Yes, if you keep it refrigerated.
The small packets of Mrs Dash (free in a take out meal) worked well in a rice & veggies (FD) dish I made yesterday.
Shelf-life past code date per my USDA placard:
Five years past code date: Canned vegetables and beans. Pea soup. Tuna. Canned meat packed in broth (beef/chicken/turkey). Corned beef/roast beef hash. Spam. Bully beef.
Three years past code date: Canned chili and beef stew. Canned soup with a tomato component. Boyardee. Canned tomatoes/tomato sauce.
Right now, I can find pretty much all of the items listed above with a 2026 or 2027 code date, meaning there's a lot of stuff out there that should be good to consume into the early 2030's. If there are deals to be had on any of these items, it's back up the truck time, while they're available.
I do know even if you shred only a half block...don't touch with your hands. The remaining block will mold quicker.
Not if it's vacuum sealed...lol
Thanks good to know.🙂
Excellent Video. Great on point information. I always welcome these videos and your content always.
Love these videos Leisa. Ty.
I had a can of peaches explode! It got everywhere. It had one of those pull off lids. I’m always checking the integrity of my can goods & wow was I surprised!😵💫
I had a can of pineapples (acidic) explode…..peaches seems a surprise. I wonder if those pull-off lids are as reliable as the old complete seal would be?
Great tips Thanks
Thanks for another awesome video.
Great information thank you.
I never liked putting crystalized honey in a pot of hot water, Idk why. However, I found that if I put it out in the sun on a warm/hot day it works better for me and lasts longer without crystalizing again.
Thanx Leisa. Most of these I already knew but not all.
Working my way thru with baby steps. I don't have much room in the motorhome but I'm trying to reorganize or rebuilt in the spaces I do have to better accommodate whatever I'm able to put away for short & long term.
❤ great info!
Love your channel. Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for all the information!
You bet!
I usually buy the Knorr powdered stock sold in the Mexican section of Walmart
Have cut my coffee down to 2 cups in morning.
Working through my stash of coffee (some several years but drinkable).
Plan to replace with freeze dried and just get an occasional bag for variety.
Sounds great!
You can't say it often enough. Thank you.
Thanks for the awesome tips! ❤ Especially the coffee, lol. 😉
I think it was like a 2 years ago, a forgotten bag of brown sugar was found - it was a brick, could of used it as a weapon or a actual brick for a candy house 😜 If I need brown sugar I just add some molasses to some cane sugar. Love your tips 🥂
Add a few crackers it will moisten. Or microwave 30 sec
Question: Isn't cooked wheat just cream of wheat? That is delicious, and I was raised on it. There's a saying: eat and store what your grandparents (or great grandparents) did. Once i started to adopt that thought into my life, I have been healthier and honestly glad to honor my memories of my great-grandmother ❤
So, I should look at that butter I put up 2 years ago😂😂😂. Thanks. I actually buy it every time and it goes to the barn freezer. What is funny about this is, I noticed him cooking with my stick butter rather than the brown tub. Hmmmm? Lol
Try putting the shells from 3 eggs in the grinder with the beans, the shells buffer the pH and afterwards put the grounds in your garden
I like ground coffee, but also stocked up on freeze dried. Gotta have coffee.☕
We have a great debate in our house. Hubby is a coffee snob - I just need coffee prevent me from killing peeps. I also worked in healthcare my entire career so I am not picky. I stocked up on Folgers but hubs LOVES his beans. Our deal is who ever wakes first makes the coffee and since I hate using the coffee grinder he nearly always wakes up first. On the occasion that he sleeps in - I hear him shuffle into the kitchen then hear "craaap folgers" :-) You snooze you lose dude. 🙂
🤣🤣
I have found that a lot of people don’t like to dehydrate food or buy it because I don’t know how to use it. I just made sloppy Joe’s today using my bell peppers that were dehydrated just soak them in water for a while. You cannot tell the difference.
No difference, love it!
How do you store the dehydrated peppers? I planted a ton of tomato plants and thinking ahead on how to store them.
@@racheladam9251 in air tight containers
Thank you for all the great tips , where did you say you can buy powder boulon?
Thrive life, link is below
Thank you for this. Did I miss corn starch, baking powder, baking soda? Long term forever food?
Thanks for the advise, Leisa.
I store pure cane sugar in mylar bags that are resealable and dont heat seal the bag. Do not store in a bucket it will go rock hard on you. Pasta is so cheap to purchase but I know how to make by hand and have a manual roller but I found an electric pasta maker in my opinion was worth the costnof the machine. Powered milk I store in Mylar and heat sealed. I also keep canned milk as well as several cases of boxed milk. Coconut milk and cream. Cheese is an issue as they are using a phizer fake rennet and a fermentation process to confuse the consumer. I keep the ground cofffee in mylar heat sealed bags with oxygen absorbers. What lasts for ever is the freeze dried instant coffee which very time I see it on sale and the individual packets those are amazing to keep in the EDC and in your vehicle. You can use your freeze drier and do your own boullion or freeze dried bone broth. On salt all mammals and birds needs salt why they go for the eyes first the salt content. Your halo or whats called the 12 cranial nerves in your brain, each one has an salt or mineral attributed to it. Ists are great to stretch your burger. Ghee I do pressure can it myself and have done so for many years as well as canned bacon. My all American pressure canner will do the job. Spices chuck out the bottle and into mylar bags. Good video👍
Oh, interesting factoids….I love that! Also sounds like youve got oodles of experience in pantry prep. 👍🏻
I’ve had sugar plain ole white sugar for 25 years just in sealed 5 gal bucket did not get hard nor clumpy. Have pure cane for over 7 years in glass jars still doing well
Wild rice lasts forever too!
❤Where do you buy your green coffee beans for long term? THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR KNOWLEDGE. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS❤❤

Have you ever dehydrated fresh mushrooms? Delicious!
Don’t mess with my coffee either!! But I have never heard of getting green beans and roasting them. Hmmm. I get my honey from a local bee keeper three miles away❤
You're the BEST , Thank you Leisa
You're so welcome!
Gotta have plenty of coffee ☕️ both hubby and I drink lots of coffee then add in our son inlaw and it’s nothing for us to brew 3 pots on Sunday.
Lots of wheat berries (hard white, hard red, soft white, rye, kamut, etc.
I love watching your videos and saying to myself, "Yep. Got that. Yep, make our own maple syrup, nope, I don't know about WalMart either." The last time I was there, that was the last straw. It isn't WM itself, it's the hoodlums it draws to it like a big magnet. I've been in the parking lot, parked WAY far from everybody else, because I want to see around my truck when I come out, and open all the doors to load the groceries, and all of a sudden, my door hits me. Some hoodlum bumped the cart with his car, which hit my door, when I was bent over inside putting down a bag of groceries. I looked up, and he's yelling out the window, "That's MY space." There were, literally, hundreds of spaces in this huge lot. OK, he's nuts......he and the woman in the car then proceeded to berate me (as I stood there quite puzzled and wondering if I should yell for help, find my phone and call the police or what, they were yelling at me 'how dare you park there, we have a BABY in the car." Absolutely no sense. And the list of abuses goes on....so I started only going with my very large husband and telling him to not leave my side. Girls - don't you hate that? But if he's there, no one bothers me. But he travels for work, so the last time some hoodlum insulted me last month, right when he wandered to the auto section, that was it. No more WM. We have a Target a couple more miles away. Most places I go, JoAnns Fabric, Agway, Tractor Supply, and BJ's Wholesale Club, are fine - the hoodlums do not go there, because they are at WM I guess.
Is an oxygen absorber needed to store pasta in a sealed jar? How long does green coffee beans last in sealed jars? I don’t own a vacuum sealer. Thank you Leisa, you’re my go to girl! ❤️
I do use oxygen absorbers with pasta because I got some critters without them once or twice. The vacuum sealer is one of the best insurances along with the absorbers to kill existing microscopic critters and then their eggs.
Watch the honey. There is a lot of fake honey out there. There are sites on CZcams about how to tell what is safe. Best find a local bee keeper if you can.
Added benefit to local beekeeper is the bees visit YOUR region and therefore provide (some) allergy/hay-season relief.
Can ground coffee or roasted coffee beans be vacuum sealed? I MUST have my coffee!! 😁😁
It will still go rancid long term
@@SuttonsDaze Well that's just crappy! I do have several jars of instant coffee stocked, thanks to you! Thank you for your reply. Been stocking up on beef and canning like crazy because "someone" was so nice to post a video about rising beef prices. Thanks!!
I watch for sales on milk like 97 cents for a half gallon then buy the limit, write the date I bought it, and put it in the freezer. I've had as much as 8 gallons in the freezer and it lasted me a long time.
As for dealing with cheese, always wear gloves when handling it. The natural bacteria on our hands will get on the cheese and cause molding faster.
Leisa, what's your opinion on waxing your own block cheese? I hear that if you use the proper wax, dry out the cheese a bit (couple days, brushing the surface of the blocks with vinegar to kill any mold spores) then give it couple coats of wax and put it in the fridge, it will last mold-free a very long time. folks who have a cold room can keep waxed cheese in that. Any thoughts?
I've got better things to do honestly
Alaska Prepper has a few videos on waxing block cheese, if you want to take a look. Others have similar vids too.
Girl, I am a mushroom eater, do you have a video on canning mushrooms??? Please ándale Thank you
czcams.com/video/FEcg_wT3rl8/video.html
Overall a good video but I absolutely abhor tuna in oil it makes me gag...can't stomach it but I have plenty of cans of tuna in oil. Never had a problem with my tuna in water going bad because I rotate the food and it simply gets eaten up around these parts. Thanks for sharing
How well does Thrive last in central Florida. Do you need to do anything special for it to last longer once it is opened.
Air tight container
Hello, just finished watching your video. Will cane sugar last as long as white sugar? Thanks
Cane sugar is white sugar
Thanks, I thought so but just wanted to confirm it.
Have you ever grown Mushrooms..I see the " logs " for sale from time to time. Curious
No, dint really have someplace to do it
I use dried pasta sparingly. Making it is the way I like to go. I would like to learn to make cheeses. I have to find a good source of milk.
I was wondering, if you freeze dry fruits or veggies would you put them in a glass container and vacuum seal it.
@deannemory1568 Yes, that's what I've seen others do! In gallon and half gallon jars depending on what it is!
I prefer mylar, but yes
Mylar with o2 absorbers is better

Hi Leisa, I'm going to town tomorrow to buy boneless skinless chicken breast because they didn't have it Friday when I went. They said that they are expecting a delivery Monday.
Good luck!
@@SuttonsDaze I may need some luck, so thank you. Even with what I've accumulated so far I still feel driven to add to what I have. I've learned to trust my instincts so I'm going to do what they tell me. It's not going to go to waste.
What about organic white sugar?
Forever
SO only plan on commercial white flour to last a year regardless of how it is stored? And only do wheat when you grind it yourself. Does the wheat oil go away somehow or it is only added when processing? Or only ground as you go?
Grind as you go
There have been videos from other people using older stored flour, and it is completely fine. I think, if stored well, you can get a much longer shelf life than 1 year.
@minimalistcriminalist2722 unless I've tried it, I don't much trust it and hate to recommend that people spend money on something that goes bad
Heard on a video that dry beans can become so dry with time that you can’t cook them long enough to moisten the center.
Do you know anything about this? I don’t know if I believe this or not.
Believe it, that's why I vac seal in mylar
I had some from 2011 and pressure canned them in chicken broth. I used fewer beans than the recipe said, so that they could expand more. I figured there were more to a cup after being dried out like that. Anyway, after the pressure canning and setting in storage for over a year, I opened them up and they were fine.
Hi, Did I hear right? Did you say that you won't save egg noodles in your pantry? Why?
Egg
Had a duh moment. Bullion to save space. Makes sense.
Right?!
Is there a recipe for Teriyaki Sauce that we can can n have on shelf?
amzn.to/3xk2PVW
I'd stock soy sauce, ground ginger and garlic, sugar and molasses (to make brown sugar), honey and cornstarch so you have the ingredients to make it fresh, it's super easy and quick to make from scratch.
Soy sauce (unopened in glass bottle) is basically a forever food. So is cornstarch, if kept dry. Voilà!
@@MK-ti2oo Thanks n yes I do but my daughter was wondering as she seems to have a hard time making it I have no clue why lol
You can mill the whole oats but I'm not sure of the shelf life
I looked it up 30 years in Mylar. Of course one aren't that old so I cannot say but the shiny bag makes me happy.
1st?
Oat groats? Last longer than rolled oats? 🤷♀️ I hear both sides last longer. Do you know?
Steel cut oats last the longest. I have heard rolled oats can last 13 years.
