Thanks for all the views on the original 5 Badass Blues Licks #1 video, it's really picked up recently. I figured I would make a fresh set of 5 licks and bring that ridiculous introduction to life! Have fun.
I think it goes a little something like this...
Spod: "Was that you?"
Spud: "Yeah, why?"
Spod: "Well, it sounded absolutely amazingâŠ"
Spud: "Yeah I know, Iâm a legend mate."
In terms of Guitar tone in this video, I am trying out the Gojira amp from Neural DSP. You get a 14 day free trial. I literally LOVE it, it's making me question everything. đ€Ł

That intro was pure straight gold
Hahaha, did you recognise it? đđ»đ€Ł
@@SpedSpedding I recognized the great comedy timing and execution.... was it from something ? haha
@Elisha Mitchell bad bot! *slap*
That second lick is so badass! The fact that you put in the timestamps for the lick examples is awesome. Thanks bro
Thanks! I do it all the time, it's from a solo I wrote for a demo.
Thanks, your amazing and love the videos, the humor makes learning a blast!
That a one BOSS lesson sped. Love it. clean crisp and truly BA
Excellent lesson! Just what I was looking for today-itâs funny because I just discovered your first sick blues lick video yesterday! Definitely keep them coming, dude đ€đ»
I always keep an eye on whatâs doing well on the channel. Figured with people enjoying and regularly watching the first one theyâd enjoy a new one. đđ»
These are great brother! Thank you for taking the time to sus these out. Super fun!
Youâre welcome Matt. So glad that you dig them. đ„
Thanks for the lesson. Not too detailed, just the right amount of time spent to understand. You are a good teacher.
NEver fail to impress, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and help the rest of us who were trying to Achieve greatness at the guitar also. Itâs guys like you that keep the next generation playing
Ah thatâs so lovely Frank, itâs my pleasure. Let me know how you get on with them.
Thanks so much for leaving such a nice comment. âšđ€©
My new favourite video of yours! What a channel! Breaking out the broken strat for this
Oh cool! This was a follow up to the first one. Silly improvised sketch I did brought to life. đđ
After going over so many of your videos, and nearly 60 years of playing guitar, I am learning new songs and tips that will help my playing tremendously. Thanks, Sped!
Amazing to hear, so happy for you. Keep it up!
@@SpedSpedding and... i forgot to mention that 'certain piece of software' you mention from time to time, is one of the greatest inventions in guitar-player history. I got it a few months back and wow! So useful.
Quality all around - licks, teaching and vid. Thank you
Thanks Adam! Youâre welcome. Have fun learning them all. đ„
Great Stuff as always !
Thank you BT! Glad you liked it. đđ»đ„
First minute was comical genius, good vibes think I'll sit down with an ouzo and learn these for fun. Good man
Ouh I havenât had an ouzo in a long time. Canât remember when? Probably had too much. đ Hope you enjoy the licks.
Great licks. Thanks for sharing đ

My guy! Welcome to the channel!
I saw you a few years back and never subbed and then stumbled upon one of your newer videos and ow my dude your content improved a ton! Love the darker backgrounds, your fashion sense and of course your badass playing đ€đ» Keep at it!
I've had a good go haven't I? Haha. Gab will be very happy at the fashion statement, in my new birthday tee from All Saints right there. I am stoked you noticed such a change. Hopefully you're subbed now?
@@SpedSpedding I'll wait a few more years and MAYBE sub then... hahaha of course I'm subbed đ€đ»
Great lesson once again! Lockdown in The Netherlands with Christmas coming up: lots of time to go through your back catalogue of lessonsđž
Are you currently locked down or is it on the horizon? I hope my videos bring you some joy regardless. Lockdowns are tough. đ€đ»âčïž

Amazing again!! đ„đ„đ„
Also the Timestamps đđŸđđŸ
Thanks Nessa! đ„ Glad you find the time stamps useful too!
Love this Sped. These are badass licks. I would also suggest learning Hendrix Red House note for note for more badass licks.
Great work Sped :)
Nice one Peter!
Very cool, Sped! I like the movement on lick 4 and 5 the best, but I like your analysis on all of them! đđ Cheers! \|/
Thanks so much Marc, Iâm glad you dig those two. Theyâre definitely the most challenging.
Hey dude amazing riffs! Thanks!!
Youâre welcome Adolfo, let me know how you get on with them! đ€đ»
Love it! 5 more please!
Amazing, thanks Stephen. Iâll get working on them. đ„
Really Really BADASS!!! Cheers Sped!

All these badass licks we are going to learn TODAY... Been watching this for three days now, I'm 10 seconds into the first lick. But thank you, really really like your videos. And I mean 10 second of my playing. That's about 2,5 seconds of badass playing by you.
Hahaha, love this. Muscle through, youâll get them in no time. Also I replied late so Iâm guessing youâve got more down now?
@@SpedSpedding Yes! No man is a guitar god in his own house (ask any wife), but I have been close, really close. Four down one to go. Of course getting faster and more precise is a never ending journey.

Thanks a ton! Which was your favourite?
@@SpedSpedding no 4 ! ⊠was killer đ€đ»đ
I'd love to see 5 more Sped. Thanks mate.
More to come!
Thanks for giving us licks that are just the rehashed classics but something with a new twist.
Are or arenât? Iâm confused. đ€Ł
@@SpedSpedding That aren't the rehashed classics.
All five are brilliant! I did especially like licks number two and five the most, these are so good theyâre on level with the âRiffmasterâ himself Jimmy Page đ€Definitely looking forward to more segments when you get around to doing them, thanks! đ€
Iâm really glad you liked the second one! Itâs peculiar, I like messing around in that position because the higher octaves of the 4 b5 and 5 line up without a string change. Playing in different positions always results in something awesome. đ„
You get more claver with each episode. You're a kick to watch. And you have one of the best tutorials around, hands down.
Thank you so much! Thatâs really nice.
Love the comedy too, bravo !
Haha thanks! đđ»
Thanks Sped...you have such a great sense of humor, but more importantly, you are a great player. I love Zep and Jimmy Page too. I've learned so much from you. Keep it up my friend. Rock on!!!!
Amazing Mark, Iâm so glad to hear that. And thanks for the compliment on my playing. Really appreciate the support. đđ»đ„
I have to say this... Keep doing what your doing! These licks and solo lessons are a life saver. Your outside of the box playing style is what people want to learn. Not your typical blues lick that people have heard 1000355867 times already. Btw, more slash! I love that you used the solo from a slash and myles kennedy album. More of those please. Check out mind your manners from the living the dream album! A very speedy solo full of tasty blues licks đIts not like we need another sweet child solo lesson on youtube đ€
You are an amazing guitar player, teacher and host.. great personality and I have learnt so much from your Chanel even though I am 64 and have been playing the guitar since I was 13..thank you so much.
Joey T
Thanks Joey, thatâs an amazing comment.
Keep it up; loads more coming this year. đ„
You are such a speed demon with a lot of feeling.
Lick 4 is kind of slashy. I dig it. You really run through it so fast and effortlessly. I have to put in some hours on that one. Thanks đđŒđž
I like that one too, itâs sat with me for a couple more weeks now and Iâve got it down even more. Thatâs the thing when you craft stuff for CZcams; it usually gets to its best weeks after youâve prepped it. Have fun!
Fun lesson!!!
Thank you!
great stuff, 2 days of happy fast-riffing .. 5 more!
okay Mr.Spedding... Again I am only one minute in and laughing my arse off. These bits you do, or you and Gab collab on? Very genuinely funny, and well done/well edited/well shot all that. You have the guitar chops for days, I don't want to minimize that...but you've also got tremendous comedic and acting skills or an ease in front of a camera that make this whole Spedding Experience super unique. There are a *lot* of talented guitarists here on youtube, and you are right up there with the best of them. But there are zero other talented youtube guitarists that have ....all this going on. I wish I could support the channel in a more meaningful way. Afraid best I got is sharing and the occasional long, tangental comment.
Sped my brother! Nice blues/rock fluency on the fretboard. I cannot deny the very similar ways in which we play our guitars. You are more advanced as you have more theory than I. But those blues riffs you played was ( if you don`t mind me being cheeky ) almost like me hearing me on tape. I personally think it is damn cool man. GET STUCK IN .....Jimmy WOULD approve!
Haha, love this. You can say whatever you like. Take it you've got 6ft action and a big heavy picking hand too? Actually thinking of slimming down to 9's and reverting back to normal string through tail.
@@SpedSpedding Ha!! I love to speak ta ya , I think it is definitely the Pagey thing. He would approve !!
Very Nice
Such nice licks! What kind of chord progression would you play behind them? Thx!
Love it.
Shiiiiiiba. đ Thanks Tom!
lovely stuff the first part of the first lick is Honey Bee by SRV right? gosh that's mighty intro!
Hello, what year is your Gibson les paul standard?
In what year was it made?
Your sound is amazing and you play amazing.
Your tone is great. What is your set up?

Badass!!!
It's not a badass blues lick. It's a LEGEND!

Hi Sped. I found you when I went looking for some help with 'Starlight' by Muse. Thanks for the videos.
Youâre welcome Michael, love that tune. Glad youâre still here checking our the new stuff.
Quality video. What's you're signal path?
Thanks Dave, Iâm actually just running into Neural DSP Gojira for this video. I mentioned in the description. You get a 14 day free trial. đđ»
@@SpedSpedding thanks, it sounds great. I just wondered if there were any external effects or preamps on the signal. Good to know.
Very comfy for sure ! But what I find even more impressive is, you actually reply to people "in person" as it were. I want to get on board to improve my playing Thanks! Will you be visiting any Porcupine Tree or (Steven Wilson) solo music in the future?
Thank you! Visiting it on the channel or in person? đ€Ł

Academy award worthy intro. Wait, did that say No Stairway?
If it did say that, it was incorrect. đ
@@SpedSpedding must be a typo on your tees. it should say more stairway please. I studied your SW solo by the way - you nailed it!

The first lick sounds like the beginning of When Doves Cry by Price. Looks like you are competing with Uncle Ben for comedy now.đđ

great lesson, joe bonamassa should pay attention
Five licks! Still gotta get them smooth but I'm starting to connect the intervals I hear with shapes on the fretboard. Maybe that's good... Will have to find Five Licks #1!

As someone who can read music I find these licks are frustratingly slow to learn in this manner. It's nigh on impossible to get a correct sense of the timing of each phrase (especially #5).
Is there any chance of having the tab for these licks?
Culmacatrone. As someone who can read music, I find the best way of learning is using those sticky out things on the side of my head. I also find it intriguing that as a music reader yourself, you are requesting a set of random numbers that have nothing to do with music notation.
@@frannyp46 "Tab" is recognized today as both the musical notation (on top) and the numbered system below (which is needed because of the peculiarities of the Guitar ie same note can be played in various positions on different strings) - I can read "Musical Notation"
If Sped intended for his licks to be learnt by ear only then he should dispense with the drudgery of going through each fret position one -by -ooonnnneeee :)
Playing riffs slowly, but out of time or/and with different beginning beats; ( or just plain different rhythms) is damned difficult (impossible?) to work out.
Sped has linked to the Tab and or Guitar Pro file in the description of his video. Sped hopes this helps you out. đđ»
Even more awesomer,,, ????
Hahaha definitely.
Nice... Have you been workin' out? Asking for a friend ... Fuckin' cool lesson Thank you!
Yeah Iâve been using an app, was tired of looking like the contents of a pot noodle.
Blues licks are the backbone of everything I do. I might add some Dorian mode notes, chromatics, or an arpeggio to add a little bit of colour and to disguise things a little bit. However, the framework remains blues rock. A lot of guys wonât admit to that approach, but a fair proportion of the vocabulary that they use is straight out of the Blues-Breakers era. The intro gave me a belly laugh!
Yeah, a couple of the licks have a few Dorian sprinkles. Same with the previous set that I did. Iâm glad you found the intro so funny, itâs nice to finally being the old improvised sketch to life. đ€Łđđ»
They are all awesome; however, lick 4 is my fav, real real close is lick 5 and they sound amazing played slow as well. So for me its 10 licks and not 5.
Where have you been all my life???
Waiting for you.

Your twin brother is kind of oblivious to your standing in the guitar legend community. You need to school him on wearing better hats:)
Hahaha, hopefully Slash will pop over next week and take care of that for me. đ©
Sped, please help me. There is this really cute girl I like. I want to impress her with a good Blues sound. If you could kindly figure out "Beer drinkers", by ZZ Top ? If she saw me play this crazy great song, she would fall madly in love with me, and the rest would be history.
Apparently, these are called 'Boomer bends' these days, so we can all feel old and rejected because we don't flex
What?
@@SpedSpedding đ€Ł It's a thing Polyphia's Tim Henson started, but since he said boomers should not be offended, I guess I'm overeacting
@@InfernalStateMachine Tim is incredible. I know what you mean now, him and Beato talking about Boomer generation â80s bends. Funny but I absolutely refuse to label a fundamental technique on guitar with a ridiculous name for a generation of music fans and potentially avoid using them for the sake of being âcool.â
