I worked at wendy's as my first job. I never had one damn video. They threw me on the drive through and said "Push buttons, and take money."
Well, I’m sure you already guessed that food service would be hell. Training videos never teach anything, they just waste time employees could be learning from each other and their supervisors.

@@johnstanley6815 not really, I mean yes experience is key and being thrown in the deep end of the lake can often times teach people to swim, it is also still very easy to drown.
I work customer service and often times when we don't have time to train people it is because we are already short staff and we need people to physically do the work over teach it. Being thrown into something like that with no experience can be extremely stressful especially when you are already under staff, and not to mention drive threw is one of the most time precious jobs in food service, where I work we try to keep each car waiting for under at least 4 to 3 minutes and that is insane when you only have 2 people doing drive threw, one doesn't know how to work the register properly (because nobody trained them), when it is during rush hour, and all of your customers are cranky because they just got done with a long day as well and take it out on somebody they don' even know, just because that person is new and doesn't know what they are doing because nobody was able to teach them yet.

really depended on the area you lived. Where i grew up you had to go almost 4 towns over before ever seeing one, but where my grandparents were a few states over they were a lot more common

As someone that has been to wendy's lately I can confirm they didn't learn much. They literally screwed up every part of my order lol.
I worked there a year ago and we didn't learn like that. We actually had stuff demonstrated with a boring monotone woman speaking throughout the videos. I hated wendys. Worst first job ever screwed me over badly too

Seán... sweetie, when videos (VHS tapes) first came out for sale, they were $80-$90, not $15. Only rental stores could afford to pay that price. Retail prices of $20-$30 weren't until 1988. And that "Videolog" catalogue she was looking through, really was a bible of movies on video; it was still around through the 90s, and was an absolute godsend for looking stuff up (I worked in video retail stores for 14 years). And yes, retail sucks. It is my firm belief that everyone should have to work at least a year in retail to see what it's like from both sides of the counter, and how people treat you as a worker (some people are great, but some treat you like absolute shit).
But this training video is from 1990, so if what you're saying is true, wouldn't the retail price have been $20-$30 by then?

VCRs still we’re about $150-$300 which is why they were repaired.

Jack, this is why Blockbuster probably collapsed. Emphasizing sales over rentals means less stock in total, means less revenue coming in to buy more stock to expand, means less interested people, means less rentals OR sales, means profits plummet in the end.
