  • BMW E90 320D Crank Pulley Removal & Replacement
    In this video we attempt to removed a BMW 320D crank pulley with out the official BMW tool. Although it is not advisable, locking the crank the way we do in the video does work and if you don't have access to the BMW locking tool, it's actually not too bad of a job.
    I did manage to get my on the stretch belt tool which is makes refitting the power steering belt much easier.

    Thanks for the video. Wanted to make sure it wasn’t a daft reverse thread. Like others have said, I used a 3/4 impact gun (after removing the fan) for the bolt and then a set of molegrips lightly grips the P/S belt to the crank pulley and just wind the engine over with the crank bolt :)

    You can also feed the belt back into itself and around the alternator and other pulleys save damaging the flex plate

    Can a bad crank pulley cause the timing chain to make a noise I’m sure a floppy pulley can slighting knock of timing?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 3 lety

      Not sure if it could cause the chain to make noise if everything on the chain side was fine. But it could possibly cause damage to the chain guides and tensions.

    Hey brotha let me know how those ebay turbos turn out. I purchased OEM TD03s from ebay, with like 60 sold, but the wastegates still rattle like oem turbos did. sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. On a hot day they will rattle all the time :(. Make sure you adjust your rods and maybe add a 8mm washer spacer in advance

      That’s a bit crap about yours. I’m going to do an update on my car this week. I’m still fighting a few little issues. Mainly bizzare hpfp behaviour.
      Have you ended up adjusting your wastegates yet?

If yes how to change it, because my pulley keep loose after 10 or 20 KM, my bolt have never been changed and the pulley have been changed thrice. last time i changed it i drove 80000 KM without problem, after a full service when put everything it started to loose ??? any idea guys

    How's it going... Was this automatic or manual ? I have bought one with a broken crankshaft pulley but someone tried fixing it and broke the teeth from crankshaft pulley so there for can't use the special tool anymore. Any suggestions will be much appreciated on how to remove the crank pulley. Thanks in advance

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 2 lety +1

      This is auto. If the standard tool wont work, i would just lock the flywheel or flexplate. You are not supposed to to do it that way, but i know many that are done that way.

    good evening the crankshaft pulley is damaged is the power steering cross has come loose... is it possible to drive the car for 3 km to bring it back to my place, won't that be a problem?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 2 lety

      You may get away with it. However it will be very hard to turn the wheel and the coolant is not circulating in the engine, so it will over heat very quickly. Might take a few seperate trips.

  • @jamess8407
    @jamess8407 Před 2 lety

    Can you turn the crankshaft pulley (with no belts on) without causing a timing issue? I just want to be sure before I try to replace it, that I won't throw the timing out..

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 2 lety +1

      You can, the drive belt doesnt have anything to to with timing. It is generally considered you should only turn it the way the engine turns over. So try no to turn it backwards.

    • @jamess8407
      @jamess8407 Před 2 lety +1

      @@ZeroTo60Tube thank you so much, I was worried that without any belts on if I turned the crankshaft that it might throw out timing, but from what you've said that isn't the case? So in reality you can turn it clockwise as much as you like and no issues will come of it? The only other thing is I don't have a torque wrench, so would you recommend just tightening it as much as I possibly can? I'm sure it won't fly off mid drive haha

    Sorry mate, just another question, as I've bought the parts now except a torque wrench, is it really 320ft lbs?! Or NM? The most I can find is 250 - 300ft lbs torque wrenches! Other than that they're up £200 - £300 for the wrench 🙄

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 2 lety

      It's ft lbs. They are insanely tight. You are supposed to use one of those torqure wrenches that are like 1.5m long. I just do it as tight as i can with a breaker bar.

  • @BUTTERSOCRAZY
    @BUTTERSOCRAZY Před 4 lety +2

    Whew i cringed when you spun engine backwards. Im guessing with diesels models it doesn't throw off timing. Im still learning these foreign cars lol.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 4 lety +2

      That is a genuine reason to cringe i dont blame you, but normally only an issue if you rotate it backwards and then remove or refit something in the timing system, while the chains are not properly tensioned. It used to be a big issue on cars with distributors for catching people out.

  • @GeorgeAusters
    @GeorgeAusters Před 3 lety +2

    The bolt removes with an impact wrench... Torquing it is the hard part. No really possible to lock the engine as it will be too much torque and damage the crankshaft

    Abuse Amazon, buy/return the £40 tool, and save yourself having to replace thousands after bending your crankshaft that is only rated Max 280NM; Rating on the bolt that's SINGLE use is 410NM. Reverse cranking your shaft could very easily make your timing skip a tooth as it's not made to go that way. Bet that false economy pulley will need replacing again very soon and you'll have to get a OEM product.

  • @joncotn
    @joncotn Před 3 lety

    It’s a terrible design fault I think. It’s inevitable that the rubber will break apart over time with the heat from the engine crank shaft, it’s just that BMW tend to use far more rubber than many other car manufacturers

    • @joncotn
      @joncotn Před 3 lety +1

      The ac compressor clutches tend to make noises and eventually give up at around 160k miles, that goes with most ac pumps if they’re set as ‘ON’ as default. Just a tip for anyone - if you get a used pump, make sure it’s from a lower mileage car
