The Caribbean Series (or Serie Del Caribe) is something baseball fans both casual and obsessed can enjoy, and needs to be recognized as such.

I went to the SDC in Miami last week. It was an amazing experience. The best part is watching the different cultures celebrate their mutual love for the game of beisbol. I went to see Mexico play four games in four consecutive days and for a baseball starved fan it's like New Year's Eve every game.

Something crazy about the Venezuelan team: "Tiburones de la Guaria" (the local winning team of the Venezuelan baseball league, LVBP) had not won for more than 37 years. They broke the Venezuelan league and also "la serie del Caribe" Incredible!

First of all thank you for this video! I am from the Dominican Republic and my team Tigueres del Licey is representing our country in this series. Just so you know that team was founded in 1907! YEAP! And we are the leading team in local championships won with 24 crowns! And as you may also know we are the leading country in baseball players in the US and have been for many years now. Our baseball is top notch! And I may also add that we have seen many US baseball players come play here to our country as rookies or trying to bring back themselves into the big leagues based on their performances and many have gotten contracts again in MLB because of this. To give you an idea of the US players that have come to play with Tigueres del Licey are: Mark McGuire, Steve Garvey, Orel Hershiser, Jerome Dyzinski, Eric Byrnes, Greg Brock, Mickey Hatcher, Mike Scioscia, among many other that i can't recall at this moment. Even Tom Lasorda was our manager for a few seasons. So, Yes! Latin Baseball is spicy, we enjoy it and live it and it is embedded in our skins! Again. thank you for such an amazing and entertaining video and I hope you dig a little bit more into our history! Big hugs brother!

This was truly amazing for me. Like many other fellas, I had to leave my country over 10 years ago, and didn’t got to see my beloved team: Tiburones de La Guaira. This team ended a drought of almost 40 years without winning the championship, and also ended up a 15 years drought of the Venezuelan team not lifting the trophy in the Caribbean Series. It was spectacular. People connecting with friends they hadn’t seen in 5-10-15 years, the atmosphere was like nothing seen before ever in an American ballpark (including World Series at Boston or Philly). Thank you for this video man, and I hope at least half of your followers tune in next season of winter ball, and that the series comes back to Miami soon.

This one was different with no host country. Normally the non host country games are dang near empty so I was impressed with the morning game crowds and weekday crowds. Next year it is in Mexicali again (2 hours east of San Diego and just across the border) It's my winter home ballpark. Been to almost 200 Mexicali Aguilas games (Piazza played there one year back in the day). There is talk that some games will be at Petco Park but I hope they don't do that. I liked it better when they used to wear their team uniforms for this tournament. It was a way to get to know each local league a bit better; and it truly felt like a champions League type tournament.

About that quote from Ozzie Guillén, just to add some more context about why is so special for him.
    - He started his baseball career as a Tiburones de la Guaira player.
    - Tiburones de la Guaira won the league last time in the 85-86 season, and there has been kind of a running joke since the 2000s among Venezuelan baseball fans at the end of each season that "next season would be La Guaira year".
    - That joke turned out to be true this year, and for Ozzie is pure joy to be the one managing the team that finally broke La Guaira curse.
    - Also, probably Tiburones de la Guaira has the best fans, or at least the most enthusiastic, and even after almost 40 years without winning the league they always believe in the team (and this is coming from a Leones del Caracas fan).
Congratulations to the Tiburones and let's hope they can get that Serie del Caribe trophy.

I too just got into watching the LIDOM this year and so subsequently the Carribbean series that follows as well and it's kinds crazy to see Tigres Del Licey may end up as both back to back Dominican Series AND Carribean Series Champs.
Like I don't know how rare/difficult that is historically for a team to maintain that level of dominance potentially be crowned the best team+winter league of South America (let alone win their own leagues championship series to get to this point) but, it just seems from the very limited knowledge I have that Tigres Del Licey could be in a dynasty era.

If you are really enjoying this, which first of all I will like to thank you so much for the words as a very proud fan of the team, from the country I am EXTREMELY proud to be from, second, thank you for exposing this to people cause it IS so fun, and third, IF you’re interested, tigres del Licey broadcast their home games on CZcams for free, but if you’re one of those lucky enough fans to have the MLB app, I know all the Dominican games run though there for winter league, I assume a lot of other countries leagues are there as well. Hope you’re enjoying it next year ! And again thank you !😊

International baseball MATTERS to everyone outside of America. Baseball is a global sport, both mvps this seasons were not american look at the WBC last year and how much it meant to fans and the players representing their colors this stuff matters alot. Its another example of MLB failing to market and capitalize on the global popularity of baseball and all of its stars. Wished USA took international baseball more seriously too that doesn’t help

Those jerseys are actually normal for Winter League standards, sometimes you see teams with no numbers on back or even no team name on front, wearing instead a big sponsor logo 😅

i'm fairly new to baseball, fell in love with the world baseball classic a few years ago (in a non-competition year, at that, by watching old replays), with the crowds, the stakes, and the fever of it ; it had that "world cup" feel i know from soccer. and i won't lie, when trying to "step up" from this and get a taste of what the best of baseball had to offer, i was *extremely* disappointed by the relative "mundanity" of a regular mlb game. i mean, i understand the level of play, but the crowd, the player interactions, it all felt very flat to me. i'm too new and too unknowing to have an attachment for anything in particular, no team, no player, so i just watch because i enjoy the game, and i saddly don't find mlb very enjoyable to watch.
like many people, i found out about the caribbean series because it was hosted in miami this year, and.....now this, *this* i love. it has that fire i was looking for. i don't know the players (i recognized a lot of netherlands guys from the wbc, though), i had to look at a map to know where curaçao was (and learn that it precisely is a netherlands territory), i don't even speak spanish!, but i don't care, this is the kind of baseball i want to watch. i need to find a way to watch latin american leagues, now.....

pd: also you forgot to mention that, all of the champions of the caribbean leagues can reach out to other players of other teams from their league, like Tigres del Licey from Dominican republic was only playing with 3 actual Tigres del Licey players :)

The great thing about the WBC and now the Serie Del Caribe is that gringos are slowly accepting they're not the center of the world and that the MLB World Series is NOT the greatest accolade a Baseball player can win. In fact: the only reason these teams aren't filled with big leaguers is the MLB franchises who forbid them to play in these tournaments (which pretty much sounds like slavery to me ngl)

A couple of things: the rosters at SDC are from members of the entire league, like an all star team. They wear the winner of the league’s jerseys. Secondly, welcome to Latin culture. They are there to have a good time and cheer on their team. You could have this, or any event, on the moon and Latin people are gonna show up and party. If you’ve never experienced it you should go to the WBC next time, or even better, head down for a winter league game.

You are not really late to the party! The Caribbean Series actually has been close to dying many times before and even for winter league fans it spent many years feeling meaningless. I'd say the whole decade of the 00s and early 10s it was a very lame event that really suffered in attendance and attention.
Ever since they expanded the teams and invited other countries again in 2014 Its been experiencing somewhat of a renaissance so you actually tuned in the best year possible as this has definitely been the most talked about series yet. It being in Miami instead of one of the participating countries is probably the reason.
