Investing on the JSE has definitely seen my portfolio grow quite substantially over leaving my money in a savings account with the bank. Today I speak about how much I made on easy equities after a year of investing, how that has changed now, one year four months later and which companies I am invested in.

Great. Well done. Don't forget the JSE is the company that runs the stock exchange, it's not the index as such. For that you would have to buy an ETF (e.g. Satrix Top 40 or Divi Plus) to have a nice broad range of shares.

Good stuff đđœđđœ... you just gotta play the long game, easy money results in impulsive decisions. Also greed is a bad trait to carry into an investment, no stock goes up indefinitely if you see your investment has grown substantially, itâs better to pull out profits to reinvest on other potential investment to diversify your portfolio and reduce your concentration risk, but also with that in mind you donât want to invest in a large number of shares.

Great. I like the idea of diversifying, both within SA and internationally. So perhaps 50% international (your MSCI China, an MSCI World ETF, perhaps Coreshares Total World ETF), then 50% local - and across sectors (mining, finance, property REIT, retail, manufacturing, etc.). Or, to be simple - a Sygnia MSCI World ETF(10.37% over the past year - plus dividends!), and a local Satrix RAFI 40 ETF (40.57% over one year).

Hi Katlego, thanks for your question. Itâs great to add more money to a company that youâve already invested in for example, Iâve invested money into Purple group, I believe that their share price which is R1.46 (according to the price today at this moment) can grow in the future, so I buy their shares and as the share price grows so does the profit I make, but maybe I only had R20 to invest at that time, so whenever I get extra money I keep investing in this company again. Itâs also okay to invest in a new company but itâs good to add money to those companies which you feel you want to invest more money in. That extra money that you add will also gain profit as the share price of the company grows.
