It never stops to amaze me how truly bad these billion dollar companies struggle to release a somewhat good movie, it's like trying to win the lottery
They're allergic to giving the fans what they want
@@GigglingStoners First off, sick avatar, second off, great name. Lastly, they are catering to what they "think" we want rather than what we do..happens.
They are trying so hard to not offend anyone (except white male) that all that they could do at the end is a so bland than even a glass of water feels "spicy" compared to it.
As someone who suffered through 4 years at a film school in California, I'm not surprised at all. I've met dozens of budding film makers, writers, cinematographers, editors, and actors who have all been fully indoctrinated by The Message. They are quite literally all spoiled children who just want to tell their progressive story with their progressive Californian world view. If you try to tell them that their experience isn't anywhere close to being the same as the vast majority of people in the world they get offended, angry, and whiny. I've seen enough to know that there is no saving Hollywood. The American entertainment industry is on a one way track to destruction as it implodes on itself because only pampered Californians are shaping its future.
looks like 2018-19 was the only time superhero movies were good since then all garbage except spider-man
The amount of CGI needed to make Philly not look like a Hell hole is amazing
*Toronto
It was half the budget.🤣
At least they didn’t show Kensington
@@XParasiteOctoling oh they would’ve made it look like the utopia it isn’t. Would probably be all people in business suits. Or just show the little part where Evil Genius is.
Don't need any CGI to use Philly as a set for a zombie apocalypse movie. Just get to Kensington and start filming.
Correction: Billy didn't steal the Wizard's powers in Shazam 1. The Wizard gave them to Billy because he was worthy
YES. This exactly. When Drinker said he stole the powers..i was like wtf? No he didnt...Drinker should know better
Remember when Shazam was the Wizard's name?
Didn't he only got him there because he had no other choice?
@@heartlessnobody1143 No he had a choice. He searched for years and finally found the one person who was worthy
He chose Billy for doing one good thing, despite the mountain of bad things he’s done. He stole his foster brother’s bullet that shot Superman, the day before he defended him from bullies. And somehow Billy is worthy. Complete BS
i feel really bad for the director, David, who made the film. He’s one of the few directors with autism that’s managed to break through to Hollywood and all he’s done over the years is battles with the studio and production hell. He’s a genuinely solid guy and one of the few authentic and true artists still going strong, despite Shazam’s demise. His first film was this tiny no-budget horror short that suddenly blew up and went viral in the early 2010s. A lot of people forget how much effort and care that go into these films, regardless of the final outcome and it’s just sad to see this film, particularly, get slated so brutally
The movie was well directed.. it was a fine movie n beats every marvel movie recently. I wouldn’t blame the director. I blame marvel n dc
The issue is DC and Marvel ask the writers to bow to them so they could make more sequels. This usually makes the entire movie bland.
the plot is not the diretors´ job, right? I mean if you are given a thurd you can only sparkle so much glitter on to it, to make it look fine to the eye, not much you can do to the taste
He’s a really cool guy.
I didn't like this movie all that much but I'm still looking forward to see what else he does especially in the horror genre
When people said, "Shazam wasn't bad," the studio heard, "The people loved it and want a sequel"
Lmaooooo
It’s fine they wanted to do a sequel. But, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu…? Everything is way too self indulgent when that is the type of decision making going on in the development of the product.
Well I really liked Shazam one so I was kinda looking forward to this one. But I didn’t even notice it came out 😂
I liked it, and I wanted a sequel.
Eh, I liked it. It was more of a “kids discover something awesome and decide to have fun with it” than a typical superhero movie.
It speaks volumes of how low the movie industry has sunk when "This is truly one of the movies of all time" is practically a complement at this point
@The Attempt Yea, but that isn't the point. The point is to deliver a good product, that doesn't try to manipulate, dumb down people and propagate toxic messages. The point is to create an experience through a story, and people pay money to see what experience is created, but they get shitted on, and even brainwashed from time to time. Another point is the fact that the people running these companies are so fucking dumb, that they dont even realise how much money they could make if they would actually deliver good movies.
"watching it didn't make me angry" is already rare enough it's considered a compliment when you compare it to phase 4 marvel
@@theattempt3739 There is, alas, a distinction between 'this movie made money' and 'this is a good movie.'
At this point I haven't even seen more than 5 movies in the past 4 years..
Usually me and my dad goes to one evey 1-2 months, since he get's them for free every month during monday. Benefits of a senior citizen in my city.
And the only time we decided to watch after all this is ofcourse John Wick 4 (and the last time are both the matrix 4 and the last spiderman movie... Which is what months/a year ago.)
And these past years, I just prefer to watch anime, anime movies or read manga than watch any hollywood generic movie, butchered game/books to show series, or even read any comics.
And right now that the memes saying eastern entertainment media is dominating the west... It's literally becoming a reality at this point.
@@ashurad_fox5991 "I prefer eastern entertainment because I'm from the east"
The girl (I saw the movie a month ago and I already forgot her name) getting hit with the energy blast after she teleported really stuck out to me. They consistently dodge the beam and hide behind cover to avoid it but as soon as the girl TELEPORTS AWAY, and puts about 5 BUILDINGS worth of walls in between it and her, it turns into a heat seeking missile that can go through anything. I liked Shazam 2, it was a “brain-melt” movie. You can put it on, barely pay attention, enjoy the pretty colors and jokes, and still understand the whole movie nearly perfectly.
@Shaun Bolten Yes. But unfortunately for the companies, "watchable", "not terrible" and "semi-enjoyable" aren't gonna cut it if they want to keep the superhero genre alive.
@@OR56 You say that like it was worth keeping alive in the first place
The girl's name is Anthea the goddess of Axis.
The problem was is that she actually just phased straight backwards faster than the bolt and when she got to a safe distance she just stood there literally couldve just moved
@@jilliebean6312 Yeah, but then it went through multiple buildings, and earlier, people had been able to duck behind walls to dodge it, but now it can go through things.
Zachary acted like a kid whereas Billy acted like a teenager. It feels a change of personality. Like Zachary stayed the same and Billy changed (as he actually grew up)
I think the fact this is a dead end for DC is why they didn't do anything risky. Everyone involved knew that they were basically being fired after this was done, and rather than using it as an opportunity to try something new, they just got through it as quickly as possible so they could move on with their lives/careers.
That likely true
No. Most of this was finished before they realized it was a dead end
This feels so dumb. If there’s nothing to lose why not make something batshit insane
Wrong, movie wrapped up production last year
Fired from the series is one thing. Bombed so hard they would not get a job is another. So play safe is a correct decision. That said, they can still play it safe while delivering a good story. Billy going to be 18 is a nice story. I think the final 1/3 should be where young billy and shazam billy personality and characteristic merge is a nice idea. Also, removing other family power earlier ( since in the end it was billy vs evil anyway ) should be done sooner. maybe removing one by one as they try to corner or put the evil side into a situation where they can at least have a chance - with in the end its either billy give it to freddy or freddy give it to billy.
i think it would have been a better story.
Well, as per usual, I had a damn better time watching The Drinker’s video review than I would watching the movie. And a bonus treat about his Rambo-verse comic book. I’m both a fan of Rambo and also Will Jordan’s writing, so this seems like a win-win. Thanks Drinker. That’s all I’ve got. So I’ll go away now.
I really liked the first movie for basically telling a classic, straightforward, oldschool kids adventure movie within a colorful and magical comic superheropowered world. I also really liked the script for making this not into a boring and foreseeable nostalgia fest catering only to the fanservice needs of old farts my age or elder but keeping it real by turning it into an updated version relevant to today's kids in the present and teaching them some family values that might help them become better parents in their future. It would sadden me if the second installment threw all of that over board. I really appreciated the chemistry between Freddy and Billy in the first movie, and the way the older actor playing Billy mirrored the way that the younger actor played him. A follow-up movie really should take this further by showing some sort of development, both regarding the chemistry between Billy and Freddy as well as in the character growth of Billy as a hero - while preserving the semblance between young Billy and his adult-bodied, super-powered alter ego. Also, we need yet again antagonists with a relatable back story and motivation to their actions, in both concrete situational behavior and general mission morale. These were the strengths of the first movie, and that is what the second one should build upon and expand into a slightly more mature direction.
To me I somehow think Black Adam was sort of planned to be the villain in a Shazam sequel but The Rock wanting his own franchise didn’t want to do it so they tried something different to see what works.
That's basically what happened yeah
Everybody wants a Superman VS Black Adam but never get that first it has to be Shazam VS Black Adam
This is exactly what happened. There's an article on The Wrap detailing how The Rock tried to hijack the DCEU.
What the frick happened to Mister Mind, though? I don't see why they couldn't just use the villain they teased in the last movie instead of Generic Fantasy Villainess.
Rather over bloated ego of Rock who insist of going toe to toe with Superman
It’s insane that a Black Adam movie and a Shazam movie came out within a year of each other and they had nothing to do with each other.
Poor writing decisions all around, also probably character rights.

Wow. Very well draws. Love the colors and the panel composition. Remembers a little the art of 80s comics (maybe because rambo movies were from the 80s). Really great job, congrats
At least he was finally called Captain Marvel by Michael Gray, who played Billy Batson on the ‘70s Shazam tv show

I enjoyed the first one. But I was really hoping they would do something in the sequel that only Billy could solve. There is a JL animated episode where the world gets split into two worlds where adults are on one and kids on the other. Billy can teleport between them by changing. It's great and makes sense that only he can save the day. Wish more people would actually take the powers these heroes have into consideration when it comes to winning in the end.
I think part of the problem with Shazam 2 is that the Shazam-ily still has powers. I may be in the minority here, but it would've been cool if the rest of the family had to sacrifice their powers to give them back to Billy, for him to have enough power for the final fight. It would've been a nice opportunity to literally show Billy that he is now 'alone' as Shazam, and can't be afraid to grow up because he has to in order to become a super hero. IMHO keeping the Shazamily intact at the end of this movie was a mistake, regardless if New 52 comics have that.
That was an amazing show.
That was a Young Justice episode
Sounds like a continuation of the shitty culture wars going on worldwide. Kids Adults. Shite.
What happens when a kid gets too old does he die or does he get teleported to the adult world?
"There's a tooth in here!" Is my favourite moment from the movie for some reason 😆
Not interested in Rambo but I’m glad you got to write an official cool story for a franchise you like. Wish I could do that. Good job dude!
I think they should’ve stuck with Mr. Mind as the main antagonist. Why would they tease him in the first one if they had no intention on using him
Exactly, I would've been more excited to see them fight a caterpillar!
I think they did intend to use him, but something probably happened behind the scenes, and they were forced into going with something different.
With the way the DCEU cared about continuity I wouldn’t be surprised if the filmmakers legitimately forgot about him lol
I think he was teased to be the next villain in a post credit scene
They keep teasing him for the next film. And if we go by the end-credit scenes, Shazam is supposed to be part of Gunn's DCU. He was meant to survive the reboot. Gunn's partner, Peter Safran is a producer on Shazam. That is why Shazam was meant to survive Flashpoint. Gunn never said that Shazam was off the table. All he said was that Cavill wasn't Superman.
I wasnt even aware there was a shazam sequel out.. shows you the confidence the studio had about getting the word out
It got marketed like last minute
WB is freaking broke. They have no money left to market the movies they're putting out right now. They just stopped a bunch of movies halfway through production, and only the stuff that was just a few months away from release got through the cutoff. They couldn't afford to waste money advertising a movie they knew wasn't going to be profitable, so they chose to barely advertise it at all. They probably figure that with advertisements they'd only make $300M worldwide on a $125M budget they'd barely break even, but if they make $200M worldwide on that same budget with no advertising, they'll come out ahead.
I knew they were going to ruin it. Shazam needed black adam as a villain and a serious tone.
yeah I couldn't give a fuck after they ditched Henry Cavill
Me neither. Their advertising campaign wasn't so good.
I love how you show all the best action scenes in the movie. That's all I wanted to see. How do you get all these clips?
Crazy how Josh Trank’s “Chronicle” still holds up and is still better than the shit we’re getting now.
"The superhero genre is heading into its twilight years now."
Dear God, I hope so.
Every genre goes through it, the western, musical, jungle,... and disaster. The action/adventures of superheroes need a break from saving the world of villains.
There are other types of movies you can watch, you know. The reason that the superhero movie genre has been lingering around so long is that enough people will pay to go see that kind of crap (same with Star Wars)

Fun fact about this movie and the previous one, very little of it was filmed in Philly. Most of it was filmed in Ontario in Hamilton and Toronto; I've passed by the convenience store where the robbery scene in the first movie took place quite a few times. @Ozzie Mandias Forgive me, but your username makes me a bit nervous about your opinions on sociopolitical matters.
This movie hurts me some because the first one is one of DCs best within the past several years. It was fun, vibrant, had personality, had some good characters and arcs, villain wasn't too bad, and it had a pretty solid (albeit stereotypical) family theme that was pulled off. But after WW84 came out and after the announcement of this sequel was coming, I knew it wasn't gonna go down pretty smoothly. And yeah, I was right sadly-
That’s a very lowball to hit though to be fair
W
It hurts that WB isn't even going full woke with the political agenda in (ahem... most) of its movies (Looking at you WW:84...) because they have the advantage of not driving away half the audience right off the bat. The incompetency of their marketing is just so frustrating. I want desperately for these apolitical movies to be successful, but they keep making them so bland that it only gives a certain other studio the excuse to blame stuff that isn't the root cause of their own failures. It takes away a lot of the power of voting with our wallets when there's nothing really good to put our money towards instead. Marvel can just say, "It's superhero fatigue," and continue churning out more woke trash indefinitely without learning their lesson.
It was decent wouldn’t say amazing
The first one was massively over rated. The best turd is still just a turd.
Lol “when I passed thru Philadelphia last year looked like the aftermath of the battle of Stalingrad!!!”
Critical Drinker is a hot lad, wish he showed more of himself in his videos.
The late great Alfred Hitchcock once said, there are three things needed to make a great movie; the script, the script, and the script. Seems like the studio was more interested in showing off their cgi than writing a coherent story. Also, good job on the Rambo prequel comic drinker; this Jack Daniel's is for you.
I suspect corporate America is so irredeemably dumb because they hire people from prestigious colleges in the US, the same colleges that say men can be women and white is bad. I guess that’s where the phrase “you have to be educated to be that stupid” comes from.
DC and Marvel are now at the point that if you asked them to boil water in pot, they would come back nine months later and $50 million over budget with a trash bag of frozen anti-freeze 🤦🏽♂️
I sometimes wonder if movie makers are in a secret competition with each other, who's only contest is to prove who's video card can render the most polygons.
just like the 3 most important things in real estate.
Shazam 02 is more like a power rangers cartoon. Except the action is way better in a power rangers episode and when the script runs out, they actually end the episode.
How the hell do you make dragons boring? The only good things are Zachary Levi can act, and the costumes are nice old school endearing compared to "new updates and CGI rendering for modern day."
Far, FAR too many movies use special effects as a crutch. They figure that the audience will just be dazzled by the pretty lights and turn their brains off. That's certainly not how you make a classic movie, but it seems like few people are even trying to do such things any more.
I'll be honest, I had absolutely no idea another Shazam movie came out.
To be honest that is true for _a lot_ of movies and shows that came out over the last years. I only know they exist because I watch the Drinker or Disparu and then I am grateful, because they watch this crap so we don't have to and because their reviews are way more entertaining than the movie or show itself. Disparu's review of the second Gotham Knights episode (and again, I had no idea this was even a thing) is hilarious. Well, looks like all this crap is still good for something...
Same,i just checked my local cinema schedule cuz im going to watch john wick this weekend and saw that shazam was showing and was like wtf "they made another one of this shit!"
the fact that you keep creating stories (last time it was a book, this time a comic) is probably why you are so good in your reviews - contrary to other reviewers (say at rottentomatoes) who feel.. "professional" a.k.a phony. Thumbs up once more.
I watched this movie like two weeks ago. I can barely remember anything that happened in it that wasn't in the commercials!!
The thing that stood out to me in this movie was that fact that Shazam is meant to have the windom of Solomon and they went to great efforts multiple times to point out that he wasn't very smart. I really miss the days of good movies where I wanted to see them more than once and then looked forward to their release on DVD/Bluray.
You seem to be failing to understand that Shazam's writing changed a lot in the modern day. In classic comics from the 1950's Shazam used his intellect to build robots or learn languages.
In modern day writing the last 20 years, all the "Wisdom of Solomon" does is allow him to know things he normally wouldn't like "How hard can I punch this human without killing him." Is something he just knows magically. "This robots weak spot is it's back" It's him just knowing things that are semi useful. In the same comic when he defeats that robot by punching it in it's weak spot the "Wisdom of solomon" tells him to throw the robot into the ocean which actually ends up being a bad thing. His magic Wisdom isn't that useful when you still have the brain of a 10 year old.
I can understand getting carried away when Marvel and DC ruin their own characters and world.
What I cannot stand is how they ruin other myths like Norse and Greek mythology. Thor 04, Black Adam, WW84, this movie! How the hell do you make dragons and demigods so boring is beyond me!
Its not just cinema. The state of modern story telling is a sorry affair.

The first one was a nice, sweet story of family and was a good break from the standard superhero fluff. My only previous involvement with the character was in the awful 1970s Captain Marvel TV show, so I didn't have a lot of expectations. But like you said, that doesn't mean I wanted a sequel. This one looks good enough, but I doubt I'll see it unless it shows up free somewhere.

Captain Marvel is maybe DC's best superhero. Power-wise, he could overcome Superman. The power he weilds is so great that it was decided that only someone pure could be entrusted with it. So Billy Batson, a boy, became the champion. The power is split equally among Billy and anyone who is worthy to hold the wizard's staff and say the wizard's name.

I am glad "super-hero fatigue" has finally set in. People have been predicting it for years, but the super-hero movies just kept making money. Now, it seems to have arrived at last. While I love a good super-hero movie, I want to see other types of movies get big theatrical releases too. I want to see adventure movies, action movies, historical epics, detective movies, slap-stick comedies, and westerns. Maybe now that the Hollywood studios' favorite golden goose seems to be laying duds, we'll finally have a more varied selection of movies released in theaters.
Nope. I think it's just the films getting crapper, rather than people getting tired of the genre.
I think that some films just aren't as good. For example Deadpool n wolverine gets me excited, something I would want to see and cant wait for. Shazam fighting helen mirren isn't really on my excitement list.
You are confusing superhero fatigue with “ultimately DC is flawed compared to Marvel and it has been that way since the mid-60s”
Where is the "Bright Burn" sequels?
Where is the R rated X Men movie we all want?
Super hero fatigue is real for sure, but there ARE movies that could be made that would work and sell.
But that means risking offending "some people" and Hollywood doesn't have those kinds of balls.
It’s not even genre fatigue. It’s just poor writing. The MCU hasn’t produced a good story since Winter Soldier, but people tuned in for the melodrama and brand loyalty.

@@_spooky_sandwitch_you’re right, he ruined this movie
I wanna make a pig that turns into a Super Hero by shouting his name and call him "Shaz-Ham!".
I didn't saw it, but description sounds nice enough, compared to what usually happens in movie today...
Haven't seen 2 yet but I liked the first one. However there was an issue with the Billy/Shazam character in that there was no continuity between them. Billy was a teen usually reserved, introspective, and sad in search of his mom, but as Shazam he was cheerful, upbeat, and childish. I am not a specialist on the character itself but the way I have seen him depicted in animated movies is that his personality doesn't change when he is Billy or Shazam.
That is a mostly a nitpick in hindsight, but looking at the images used here it looks like in the sequel the same happens where Angel as a teen seems to be playing a more mature character, and Levi as an adult seems to be playing a more childish character.
The perceived personality change isn't that implausible. His body changes and he gets godlike powers. People are bound to have different behavior when they assume such an alter ego.
I always interpreted the differences between Billy and Captain Marvel in the movie as Billy letting his inner child out when he's a superhero; that he finally ENJOYS being a kid as Captain Marvel, as it's an escape from his real life.
It's not a nitpick. First Shazam! was good, but this one thing really took a lot of enjoyment for me. I couldn't understand it - a sulky, sad, almost depressed teenager changes into a superhero and all of sudden acts like an upbeat, extroverted teenager. I get that superpowers would give anyone confidence, but show the progression. There was none. It was like 2 different characters - a boy say's "Shazam!" and another character teleports in his place.
I agree with the replies. Like Peter Parker in the classic comic books, when he became Spider-Man he was able to revel in his powers and put his teen troubles aside for a time, becoming a cocky jokester. Admittedly, assuming it was similar for Billy, they didn't write it as well for Shazam.
@@kalash_nikov I think the movie *did* show that progression. Billy is introduced in the movie pulling a prank on police officers and appearing to enjoy causing that mischief, even if he had a serious reason for doing what he did. From the get-go, the movie clearly tells the audience that Billy is mischievious and isn't afraid to get into trouble.
On top of that, Billy was freaked out when he first became Captain Marvel, and freaked out like a normal kid would. He started to enjoy his powers when he started acting like a superhero and during that whole "training montage" while discovering what his powers are.
The drinker never disappoints 🍻
No he doesn’t.

Believe that!!!
I want to watch these uploads, but when you give away the entire movie or show every time, I feel like I need to come back and watch after I’ve already seen it.
Critical I dont know how you do it but u do it 💯
A comic book done by The Drinker based in the Rambo universe is the coolest shit I've heard all week. Cheers man! I'm looking forward to it.
Reminds me of that swedish graphic novel (erroneously called "manga") by national socialist Henrik Jonasson called "Neo-Germania". Apparently lots of people around the world wanted to support that sort of thing and got to #1 in Amazon's fantasy chart.
Its better than that. Graham Nolan and Chuck Dixon are involved. And best of all, this project has Stallone's blessing.
Your missing the point. Those mainstream creators are gonna be pissed when they realize they are working with a Neo Nazi CZcamsr. I mean. I’m sure they know he’s a CZcamsr. Which just illustrates how pathetic the world is now. But I don’t think chuck Dixon even knows what a Groyper is. They don’t know that CD is a disgusting Groyper. What a shady, gross, conman and right wing grifter.
Thanks Drinker, for pointing out once again how fucking dumb redneck Americans really are.
If there was something to get out of a review for this mediocre piece of "content" is that.
A critical viewer and a comic artist? Man, you've got it all. I've been trying to write my own comic for about a year now, but I think you've inspired me to continue. Keep up the good work, sir. RESPECT.
Good luck!
Do a little bit every day and build the habit. Even if you miss some days, continue doing just a little, don't stop out of frustration about yourself. The historian and podcaster Daniele Bolelli talked about this constantly as he struggled to finish his first fiction novel. Now he's almost done.
He's a right winger so he hasn't got a brain
Good luck!
Hope it works out bro
I think it's pretty dope that Sindragosa is in the movie.
Good luck with the comic👍
I love the state of cinema, we’re actually surprised when a movie’s good! Especially if its a super hero flick
Watch John Wick Chapter 4 this weekend, that is the definition of a great film.
Shazam 02 is a overproduced power rangers episode.
John Wick 04 is on another level. You don't need to watch Two or Three, where they got a bit ahead of themselves. You can watch John Wick and skip straight to part 04.
@@shanumutyampeta out of curiosity, what did you thought of Wick 3?
@@damp2269 Liked it, not as good as the first 2 or 4
@@shanumutyampeta alright, might watch it later. imo the first was the best one and it was downhill from there. on the 3rd one the enemies where going out of their way to put their heads in the gun's muzzle to a comical degree.
I enjoyed this one because of many factors, but I think my favorite thing about the movie is that Djimon Hounsou gets a proper role, even if he's also mostly just used for laughs. Don't know what it is about that guy but no matter what role he's in, I like it (with his performance in Blood Diamond being the best one in my opinion).
Yeah I kinda like him too.
@@liamphibia I've heard a lot of people do, so it's kinda disappointing he doesn't get more major roles. I mean, he can act the serious stuff, that is no question, but his comedic timing isn't bad, either, based on what I saw in Shazam 2 (him calling Freddy by the wrong name was an excellent recurring thing in the movie and Hounsou delivered those lines very well while keeping his face dead serious).
Just cuz u have a man crush on him doesn't mean the movie was good
He was hilarious in What If. Tchalla was starlord
@@khard5717 of course, that's why i said i enjoyed the movie, not that it's good. It's yet another movie that you have fun with but then forget all about it a few days later, but then that's most movies if you go to the theatres regularly (which i do).
I had had alot of fun watching it
Dijol & Jack were my favourite parts of the movie
I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I think the AI did a very good job writing this movie.
These movies from DC make me appreciate 'man of steel' more and more
Right?
Ok. Label it as a Masterpiece now. 🤣🤣🤣
Nope, they are just all bad
I don't even like Superman, but Man of Steel is pretty much the only version of him I like, mostly thanks to Henry Cavill and that Zimmer score. Okay, Zod is pretty funny villain over acted.
Don't push it!
I love this. I love that all these companies are struggling and canceling trash projects. I hope the layoffs reach far and wide.
I hope they also reach high enough to actually make a difference. Looking at you, KK.
@@MarvinHartmann452 Alonso was only the start at Disney it’s gonna happen, just might not happen until Indy 5. L
The folks that get laid off are never the ones that deserve it.
Most ass comment ever
Yeah if the Federal Reserve need massive job losses to bring inflation down, start in Hollywood and let them get a belly full of no paycheck.
this intro described how i felt about this movie exactly
So I guess the question I would have for the Critical Drinker is did you like any superhero movie? I grew up on comics and was pumped when Iron Man 1 and the first Avengers movies came out because someone finally did it correctly. Excellent story, top notch actors to fill out the roles, a lot of great action sequences, etc. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is not only one of the great spy films that doesn't have James Bond attached to it, but it's a great spy film period. And for DC, you really can't argue the first two Superman movies and Batman Begins. I guess the argument is creating a film that has the depth of the ones I mentioned but doesn't go too far down the Snyder road or Shazam path.
I loved the part where titular character said "i won't be back" and flew into the sunset to star into somethig less bland and banal. It was so breathtaking, so stunning, so brave that was.
Lol Then it pans to Superman's boots
The same can be said for most sequels nowadays.
Sequels only matter if a good story can be told.
most movies in general.
Yup! They are mostly insults
@@stsolomon618 Agreed.
We did get Sonic 2, which was more than enjoyable.
Though I will agree, it is tiring working to find a rare jewel in the shit stacks coming out of Hollywood 8T
Wow. Ok, I would legit love to see a Rambo origin movie. Man... Include all the names of the people he lost in First blood and how tight they were and you can watch him spiral and see how Rambo is created. That would be amazing
That comic looks awesome
Grace Currey and Meagan Good got it God damn...oh excuse me.
I'm glad David Sandberg can go back to horror or whatever else doesn't stress him out. To go from youtube shorts to directing a 100+ million dollar movie is quite amazing. Kind of like what happened to Issa Rae and all the things she's doing on HBO from her youtube web series.
Every time I see Grace Curry, I think she looks like Famke Janssen's hotter daughter.
@@johnsanko4136 She does like just like her. Not hotter though. A 10 is a 10 lol
Jesus Christ. Meagan is 41?! Damn
@@johnsanko4136 Exactly man, Famke Janssen, Christina Perri, and Pewdipie's Marzia all fused together
😮ee3😊🎉
One question that popped into my head when seeing this movie is this: If the kids turn into adults when they turn into superheroes, then why is Mary the same? Is it because shes's legally an adult? If so, when Billy becomes an adult in a few months, will he still turn into Zachery Levi?
The damn good question. I wonder how they will handle that.
🤔
The writers explained that in the comics her character is uniquely the same in both forms, so they used her being an "adult" in this as the basis for that. But like you said does it set the precedent for Billy and other characters now.
Freddie is supposed to be the same too, if we go by the original 1940s comic books.
What's even weirder about that is that DC had an actress for the Shazam version of Mary in the first film: Michelle Borth. Was she not available to come back, or did they think Grace Currey could sell both roles?
Also, the difference between how Levi acted and how Angel acted is quite stark. Levi is still acting as if he's a 13-year-old kid while Angel's performance is a lot more mature and pretty good for someone his age. They don't feel like they're playing the same person anymore, and it kinda takes you out of the film.
It makes me think that Shazam should've been a one-off movie. The teenage actors growing into more competent adults naturally diminishes the draw of the character. Shazam is all about giving young kids these great powers and seeing the wacky hijinks they get into. The first film excelled at showing the elation of Billy, Freddie, Darla, and Eugene after they transformed. But making them more competent and more familiar with their powers as they get older results in them becoming too close to Superman in terms of personality since they start to lose that kiddish innocence.
It was actually really fun. My kids loved it. That’s all that really matters in the end.
Can’t believe Shazam 2 was made & not MOS2 .. that will always amaze me
The super hero movies have run their course.
Ran their course years ago, NOW they're just running it into the ground.
@@markmathisen3908 I don't know what's more depressing, that Hollywood keeps churning them out or that people go to watch them. It's the same film everytime, just swap out the villian/superpower/world ending maggufin and repeat.
No.
Yup , the only ones that sell now are The Batman’s and Spider-Man’s. Nobody cares about the second string characters at all.
Dude, I’ve been over it since around the time that second Spider-Man movie came out with the first guy. By the time Marvel really started getting going I just gave up. They completely cannibalized other genres. They ruined Hollywood I think.
The way you describe this reminds me of a character from Band of Brothers. 1Sgt Lipton describes him like this; "Lt. Dyke wasn't a bad leader because he made bad decisions, he was a bad leader because he made no decision."
To the surprise of no one. Looking forward to the JW4 review.
I never watched the first one, so I'm eagerly anticipating missing the sequel
Of all the SC, I actually liked Shazam because it was so light-harted and the main charavter actually acted like a kid who just got a new toy
I didn't even know there was a sequel until this video
i was disapointed because i wanted to see more of the side charecters. what charmed me so much in the original was seeing personality traits of both myself and my close family members in the other siblings. my brother oliver is really smart and really affectionate like darla, eugene perfectly captured the fortnite kid phase my bro isaac was currently in, and i identified with freddy's sense of humor and pedro's introverted behavior. what happens to them? loose powers and completely sidelined into a skittles commercial. and that dragon was the most generic looking bland dragon ever, we saw harpys and manticores in the backround that did nothing to the plot or main charecters, and in actual greek mythology, the dragon Ladon had 100 heads. that would have been cool to see. but i guess its just to hard to draw 100 heads
Billy didn't steal it, he was gifted the power.
I guess she teleported in an exact straight line this is why we love you drinker 😂😂😂😂
I believe that move is called "The Prometheus School of running away from things."
Done with superhero genre long long ago, but still enjoy this videos.
Up to the 1:23 mark, this sounds like a breath of fresh air... It is making me want to not actually watch it... but tell people that I did, and that I loved it.
Djimon Honsou is such a great actor. He should get bigger roles.
WHO??
@@scorch33haha, subtle but perfect
I recently read that he isn't getting paid very fairly, I thought that his best work was in Blood Diamond. He's been in tons of stuff and here's hoping he can get the correct form of payment for sometimes carrying a project on his back
I liked him as Drago Bludvist from How to Train Your Dragon 2. Listening to him howl his lungs out was a riot.
@@joshuaclarke1389 Yes in Blood diamond he was really good
Are you telling me, a movie nobody was looking forward too, with a trailer that basically revealed the whole plot, directed by a guy who openly admitted that the final product is that good, somehow bombed at the box office? Wow, what a big surprise, Warner Bros!
That's the thing. The Director of Shazam and The Sequel. Is a GOOD Director. David F. Sandberg is a dude who has made some really decent movies. Maybe not groundbreaking, but definitely well executed and competently made. Shazam 1, Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation are all really good movies in my opinion. So it's really sad to see this movie fall into the Superhero Fatigue syndrome so many movies fall into, where everything feels the same.
Best description of Philadelphia I've ever heard.
I came across your videos a few weeks ago. Binged watched quite a few. I just have to say, I rarely have ever seen any of the movies or shows you talk about, but your take on stories, characters, and all of that is just completely interesting and enthralling. (And okay, the accent can't hurt.) Just totally impressed, sir. I'd say you deserve the audience you have got and then some. Truly a pleasure to listen to your reviews. I always come away with the feeling I've had a true master class in storytelling.
