All the cut content in Twinsanity just makes me appreciate what we had even more. For such a painfully unfinished game it's still solid, imo.
The best criticism a game can get is that it's too short.
We are lucky to even have Twinsanity, it was probably pretty close to being cancelled

The whole, "it wasnt rushed" may not be as truthful. The implication that it WAS rushed, stems from even the in-game character line; Cortex.
Its in the cutscene where they finally are able to warp to 10th Dimension.
Quote: "it should have been two new dimensions but we ran out of time". Breaking 4th wall, while giving some insight.
As weird as it is I think it's both right and wrong to say rushed. From my understanding they had the deadline extended a few times but there ambitions for the game just far exceeded what was possible for the studio.
@@ryanpage5690Basically they got lost in scope creep the same way that Duke Nukem Forever devs had, only in this case the final game was still good compared to DNF.
I love that in the Coco and Crash beta animations, they made the hell SURE to fix Crash's eyes 😂

I like Twinsanity, but I wish we could get a remake that adds back as much cut content as possible. The game has a lot of good ideas and a good sense of humour.
Same its such a shame that we probably never will.
There's a sentiment that bad games deserve remakes more than good games. Whether or not one would actually call it "bad" is subjective, but that idea can also be extended to incomplete games which is a significantly less subjective way to describe Twinsanity. Frankly, if we ignore external factors like marketability then Twinsanity deserved a remake so much more than the first three games that it's a bit silly.
Twinsanity was a mess, game is such on a ridiculouly high pedestal. 3/10

Twinsanity is my favorite "rushed" game. With how rough the development was im surprised it turned out so good.
Even though many content creators have covered Twinsanity's beta and making of, I still wanted to hear your take on it! Traveller's Tales mostly makes Lego games nowadays, I miss their old games. I wish we could see Twinsanity again on modern consoles with fixes.
We need a twinsanity remake, complete with all the cut content added in.

Also fun fact Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin wanted to make Crash a open world game, but ofcourse with the PS1 limitations they never could, they achieved this however with Jak & Daxter. And it seems a open world Crash game was something more developers wanted to achieve.
Where did they mention they wanted a Crash open world game? From what I read, they wanted to move away from Crash to make an open world game with Jak, not that they wanted a Crash open world game. Also, the PS1 had many open world games, so I don't know what you mean by it being limited when it was achievable.
@@urbanyouths There's an interview with Andy Gavin, you can find it on CZcams, he also talks about his beginnings as a programmer and past games, I remember him talking about they wanted a Crash game in a open world somehow.
@@urbanyouths I wonder what games you can mention aside from Soul Reaver that is full 3D and open world on the PS1, that's the only thing I can think off right now.
@@Casketkrusher_ No, they said they wanted an open world game, that's why they chose to move onto Jak, not that they wanted to do it with Crash. They even said they thought of Crash as a PS1 only series.
something ill say about twinsanity's development is that while im not sure if its true that the game did indeed get a longer development cycle than it was initially intended, i heard somewhere that the cnk and twins release dates were swapped for twins to be more complete, thats the reason why cnk uses so much twins assets
Maybe the bug chase section in the school is simpler because the ground is flat and the turns are right angles in that section, so the ai targeting and collision with the world can be simplified or removed.
It’ll never happen but a reimagining of this with some cut content and some new stuff would be amazing.
I remember 100% completing TwinSanity and looking at the extras with all those concept arts for levels and enemies that never appeared in the game and wondering what happened to those.
I hope that's Crash Twinsanity later became a 20th anniversary (2004 - 2024).
Admittedly when I see people imply that they always released finished games "back in the day", this, among others, remind me that those people don't know what they are talking about.
That said, I liked this game. Despite one of the puzzles giving me PTSD this is one of my favorite obviously unfinished games out.

This game is awesome. Glad there are twinsanity enthusiasts still talking about the game. I wish we could get a crash sandbox game again like twinsanity. It's difficult to find platformer sandbox games these days. Only recent platformer game similar to this style is Psychonauts 2.
This series of videos is great, I need one for every Crash game
I reckon the bug chase section from Classroom Chaos that made it into the final game was less complicated in terms of programming than the cut Bug Run level that ended up being scrapped for how demanding it was to their CPU.
Anyway, I still think Crash Twinsanity is a fun and thoroughly enjoyable experience not because of its wild development process that led to the game having glitches and cut content, but despite all of that mess.
17:20 Minor correction here - the released prototype you're referring to is from 2 weeks before the final build, not 2 months, which is why it's so similar to the final game like you were saying. A build from 2 months earlier might've had Gone a Bit Coco if we were lucky!
I swear, the Twinsanity community is the longest and most engaged community I have seen in games. It is 2024 and people still post videos and wait for a remake. This is INSANEEEE!!

I feel like for Bug Run, an easier cheat would've been to clump bugs together so that what looks like two, three, or four bugs is actually just one entity. Maybe if you wanna be fancy then make it possible for individual bugs to detach from time to time to time but keep a strict limit on how many "real" bugs can exist at once.

I can't say I agree with the closing statements, but I get where you're coming from. I think the studio should have gotten a little more time to refine what they had, but also needed more leadership from creative directors that knew what they were doing and had a passion for the project. It is so great that we got this game at all, and it does sound like they had a lot better time than Check Six Studios did with Enter the Dragonfly.
I may have conflicting thoughts on this game, but I can absolutely appreciate how creative the devs were!

Despite the janky end product, this game undoubtedly has the best OST of any Crash game. I beat this game about a dozen times as a kid (no money for other games haha). This takes me way back man, great video!
I played this game when I was around 12-13 y.o and it was one of my favorites. Sure I remember it was full of bugs and lags (when you could repeat Boiler Room Doom right would always piss me off) but I always had a great time playing it. For me it's the best personality the franchise has ever had, with its nonsense humour. I found out pretty recently that the game was a mess.

The cut content that you could see from collecting gems made me search for extra islands on the game for a long time 😅, in a way, twinsanity gives me the same sense of misteriousness and wanderlust as shadow of the colossus
makes me wish someone did a fan project to reinstate the cut content of twinsanity like they're doing to sotc
oh and trust me we'd be entertained by a video covering all cut content, specially character and ambient models

I too was one who thought the game was rushed, but wow. This game is basically the Sonic 06 and the Spyro ETD of the Crash series. It's really not a bad game, it just feels very unfinished in a lot of areas and now I know why. Good video.
Ever since the original trilogy remake was announced I've been saying that if any game in the series really needs a remake its this one

Even though Twinsanity was the first Crash game I played as a kid and is my favorite Crash game, I'll admit that it definitely suffered from a rushed development.
One thing I find pretty sad is that after Crash Twinsanity, Traveller's Tales made Lego Star Wars which kickstarterd a new era for the company and aside from the Narnia Games and that one Super Monkey Ball game, they have only been making LEGO games since. I feel sad that Traveller's Tales logo has been changed right after their first LEGO game (cause I really like their old logo and their jingle) and Crash Twinsanity feels like a end of an era for the company.
I do find some of TTs pre-LEGO games pretty interesting like Haven and I do like their 2 Crash games that they have developed.
Whatever, I still like most of Traveler’s Tales’ LEGO Games.

I wish we got twinsanity remake or remaster, I miss this game so much. I recently got it like 2 years ago and got to experience it and had a lot of fun. I know the platforming side screen crash games are fun but I find the 3d format for a crash game a lot better in my opinion, really enjoyed it and shame we probably will never get another one unless fanmade
Twinsanity was the first game i ever played, and was my gateway into crash. After playing every crash game, Twinsanity still remains my favourite, is it nostalgia? Probably, but i think this game has irrefutable charm and is by far the funniest game of them all. But its still a great game, shame it was never fully realised, and is why I so so wish there was a remaster/ remake for this game with more seasoned developers to bring this game to what it could have been, but that'd never happen because not enough people would care.
Cant wait for Titans as that one also has a vastly different original concept.

Hot take, but I think the banger soundtrack (and perhaps a bit of nostalgia) does a LOT of heavy lifting. The gameplay in Twinsanity is mid at best, and like a crappy budget title at worst.

It's really disappointing how much of a flop the twinsanity era was. Even CTTR was more of a proto-titans tonally. There was so much fun and ambition poured into what I feel could have been the definitive identity and studio for the IP going forward and it all just fell short due to a lack of time. If this was what they planned from the get go rather than what would be ratchet and clank, they could have stuck the landing. What I'd give to have seen Twinsanity 2.

Seems like this was a bad Crash game made by bad incompetent devs who were the prime reason why I wasted $50 on a very underwhelming Crash Bandicoot experience that sometimes felt like a poor man's Jak & Daxter game. This game's literally a joke that tarnished the reputation of this series. It's basically on life support by Twinsanity fans online who keep gasses it up in this fanbase while overlooking how much of a mess it really was because nostalgia, but never share that same energy with other more competently made Crash games like WOC or Crash of the Titans.
Twinsanity plebs keep daydreaming about the cut content instead of playing the actual game, because the game itself ain't all that.
The game was pretty much outdated, even compared to many fifth gen platformers (seriously, even the Spyro games, Mario 64 or other early 3d games have a better realized open or semi open world somehow). I dont even have to compare to games of the same gen because it pales in comparison.
@@sebastianaliandkulche twinsanity was the wrong game at the wrong time. It came in a time where platformers were outclassed by many other genres in popularity.
@@Teh69thSpartan I believe thats the least of its problems because in that regard, the first Jak game also came out when the genre started to dissapear. But regardless of how popular a genre was, it doesnt change the fact that game quality isnt defined for that. Twinsanity could had came out 4 years before and my opinion would be the same.
