0:00 - 0:30 We're going to talk about the Champions League match Chelsea vs. Barcelona.
0:30 In leg one, Chelsea won 1-0. People were shocked! It was going to be tough for Barca, but they did it!
1:00 Shocking for a few reasons.
1:13 We read an article about the match.
2:24 Two huge decisions against Chelsea, and Emma let everyone know after the match that she was not happy.
2:35 Bonmati scored in the 24th minute!
2:55 Two yellows for Buchanan, 4 minutes apart! What the heck!
3:17 (Sorry about that weird mouth sound, lol) Chelsea down to 10 players is wild.
3:28 Refs normally make decisions about when to issue two yellows, making it a red card.
3:51 Not a fair card? Too soft? The second yellow was shocking.
4:15 71st minute penalty kick for Barca! Did Lawrence clip her? Push her? Did Bonmati fall herself?
4:40 Rolfo nailed the penalty kick!
4:50 Heartbreaking for Chelsea! Losing at home. Emma Hayes' final Champions League match!
5:10 Emma Hayes is not happy with the officiating!
5:24 We read from an article about how unhappy Emma was with the ref.
7:24 Emma's words were very clear.
7:38 Worst decisions in Champions League history! Those are very strong words. When going after refs, you have to be careful.
8:14 We read comments about it not being correct calls.
8:39 THE REF WAS LAUGHING! DURING THE GAME? IT WAS A FEW MINS AFTER THE SECOND YELLOW! IT WAS CREEPY!
9:15 Comment about Chelsea missing their chances and playing aggressively on a yellow.
9:35 Chelsea did have chances. Should she have prepared her players more?
10:14 You can't play too safe. It wouldn't make sense.
10:29 VAR was in play, but the second yellow is not eligible for VAR check!
11:06 Ref didn't realize that she had given a first yellow? Was she concussed?!
11:20 VAR during the PK. VAR agrees with the call on the pitch. We read a couple of comments that agreed.
12:10 Controversy with refereeing is frustrating!
12:33 Is Emma whining too much? She says they didn't lose! It was taken away.
13:07 Emma went so hard because she didn't have anything to lose.
13:22 That ref laughing was freaky.
13:33 I love how much Emma sticks up for her players!!! Love that!!!
14:05 When you have a well-refereed game, those are the best games to watch!
14:35 Touching on something we talked about in the last video.
14:45 Ann Katrin Berger already started for Gotham! And she played AMAZING!! VERY COOL!
15:18 Sarah and I got a bit of pushback from the last video.
15:37 We read a couple of comments.
16:00 She was already on her way out. It didn't help, but she was already going.
16:18 Emma's comments have zero impact on the USWNT.
17:00 Emma being tough is a positive!
17:30 That ref's laugh was a conspiracy theory.
18:05 Emma has to reset, but I think she will be VERY successful with the USWNT!

I know in the video, I mentioned that the referee was laughing after awarding the penalty kick. However, I realized that she was actually laughing a few minutes after the second yellow card was awarded. Either way, it was still a very creepy and unsettling situation

I already commented a fair amount, but something struck me about that smile. Having grown up on a street with a good number of Eastern European refugee neighbours, I thought how a Romanian referee might have a thought about how much Russian money had been put into Chelsea by the former owner and not been able to stop a bit of a smirk.

The ref was talking to her team via headphone/speaker so I can only assume the refs actions were in response to who ever was communicating with her. You can clearly see she’s chatting to them. I’m a Gooners fan and I do think they were soft yellows also, but that’s the game you win some and you loose some. Chelsea should have been more clinical in front of goal and then the match would have been a tasty one.

The second yellow card also had the factor of the leg come in from behind into the knee of the opposing player .Look up the definition in the rule book . Penalty was also a fair call, push in the back, clip of the leg, another minor push in the back, looks ugly two players on one . A foul in the penalty area is a penalty kick .

That's 100% a penalty. And it's not even a soft one. I've seen way softer ones in the men's world cup for instance with the score on the line. I need Emma Hayes to stop blaming refs. And I'm a Chelsea fan but I just can't stand their coach lol

The 2nd yellow was correct. To have possession of the ball then to have your foot stomped on, a knee in the back of your knee and an elbow in the face is a foul any day of the week. The Chelsea player should have been more careful as she was already on a yellow card. The same with the penalty, a pull back/push and then tripped by another Chelsea player in the box is a penalty. I bet Emma would be claiming these if it was the other way around. Who knows what the ref had said to her, or heard through her headphones. At the end of the day Chelsea didn`t score and Barcelona were too good. Emma should stop blaming the ref and stop being such a sore loser.

Hi Sara and Sarah, I watched the game live. Barcelona 100% deserved to win the game. Not only did Chelsea not finish their chances, but Buchanan should've been more cautious on a yellow. The foul on Patri was a yellow all day every day, she had cleats to Patri's foot. A justified yellow. The penalty shouldn't be discussed as controversial. It is very obvious that Lawrence and Carter were both trying to stop Bonmati, eventually Bonmati was pushed from behind and clipped on the ankle. Refs don't win games, players and teams with the best game plan do. I hope Emma Hayes can change her perspective moving to coach the USWNT, because I want to like the team I support and not hate the coach. Emma needs to understand that both calls were 100% legit and if that had happened to a team she was playing she'd be arguing the other way saying the calls were fair.

sour grapes Emma. really starting to dislike her. watched this game as a neutral. Buchanan is known for playing rough. it caught up with her. her first yellow was completely earned and honestly dumb. the second one was a foul, end of story. you know before the game that this ref calls things tight, thats on the manager and player when you give a ref a reason to boot you. the PK? absolutely a foul, the biggest issue is Lawrence extending her arm into Aitanas back, you can see it clear as day. Lawrence tried to be cheeky about it knowing where the ref was but she got caught.
Chelsea blew this on their own. they had their chances, didnt adjust and are out. really not interested in Hayes as US coach.

If she calls things tight why didn't Barca get more bookings? Spain is hosting the final and uefa wanted Barca there. As for Lawrence, Carter pushed BonMati into Lawrence. It was a penalty, but if you're going to prove a point, prove it accurately

Last year's final BonMati elbows Popp. No call. Just before Buchanan got her first yellow, BonMati kicks the back of Macarios calf. Foul called, but no yellow. The cards were soft against Chelsea. Non-existent against Barca

Hello Sarah and Sara. If you look at Aitana's comments last week, she said she would use what amounted to all means to get a win. She got in on goal and made things happen. With the referee's reputation and what was said, my thoughts after the booking were "Get her off and get Millie on to organise things and add motivation, before they get that one sent off", so not hindsight.
Playing to the referee is nothing new.
Earlier this year I commented somewhere that Chelsea should have given Aggie Beever-Jones more game time in case she later needed to make a difference in a big game like this, since she has the potential. To me, this was that game.
On comments for a Spain v England game at pre senior level, I said that you could see which culture had the bullfight, not that I am a fan. The patience to wait and wait and keep the fight going, first wounding and weakening before choosing when to strike is to me similar to how Spanish teams approach football games. Here was another example.

When the ref don't call a foul in the bix, VAR can intervene and ref goes look at tbe review screen. But since she called penalty, then VAR can't overturn the decision. VAR only step in if the ref missed something. But in the 1st leg, Paredes fouled Ramirez in the box HARD, nowhere near the ball, and VAR didnt ask for a ref review 🙄

@@SaraSarah It has been a week for us northerners. Lucy and Keira got to another final. Ella Toone's winning goal. Everton's equaliser from 16-year-old Issy Hobson that was almost like a fairy tale winner. Manchester City had a big win and Aussies have similar traditions, so I claim Mary Fowler as adopted. I praised Alex Greenwood earlier today elsewhere too. Then Liverpool beat Chelsea.

Hayes has had some disappointments in her last season in England, faces a challenging new job and has not handled the stress well. I'm sorry to sound harsh, but if English players would play with better attention to skill and tactics (like the Spaniards) and less to shoving, brawn and carelessness they might be able to win another championship some day. Refereeing can be uneven. You need to focus on winning the game proper through care and skill.

Chelsea were always going to be the underdogs despite beating Barcelona at home. Whether the calls were technically correct or not, they were clearly soft. Aitana is the best player in the world but a deflected goal and soft penalty is much more BonMEH than BonMAGIC. I’d rather see Barcelona decimate Chelsea than get lucky.

  • @GuyJames
    @GuyJames Před 16 dny +1

all of the decisions were 'have seen them given' - football is subjective a lot of the time and I think one could justify them either being given or not being given. I think a more calm and less stressed EH just accepts that the main problem was Chelsea's finishing. Also last year Lauren James clearly dived IMO for the last minute penalty against Lyon and EH conveniently said nothing. So, karma, sorry Emma. This whole 'put loads of pressure on the ref' is very Trumpian - don't respect the rules or the process, just whine and shout until you get your way, even though it undermines the entire rule structure.

I wasn't able to watch the whole match, just the highlights.
The 2 yellow cards were rather soft, and usually, a referee would warn the player sternly before giving a soft yellow card just 5 minutes after the first. I don't think the referee was confused after the second yellow card because she almost immediately went for her pocket to get the red card. As yellow cards can't be checked if VAR, there was nothing Chelsea could do about it.
The penalty was on the softer end, but it's always possible to award it. If the penalty was against the regulations, VAR would have overturned it.
The smirk on the referee's face might seem inappropriate, but you never know what she was thinking about at that precise moment.
Now the WSL title is the only trophy Emma Hayes can win in her last season with Chelsea, but also this one will be difficult to win. Manchester City plays against Arsenal at home on Sunday, while Chelsea still has an away Match against Manchester United in the final round. It will definitely be a last-minute decision on which title, maybe even barely on goal difference.
Great to see that Ann-Katrin Berger made such a beautiful debut with Gotham.

I get that Chelsea was a dominant team so they became a lot of new fans team but the bias towards them is so annoying. There was no controversy over the calls. The second yellow was a studs up tackle where she ends up making contact with the player. I think the terrible commentator tainted people's views on the call. I am really looking forward to the end of the Emma Hayes era. The fans and media worship her even if she assaults people and acts like a child anytime she loses. Good riddance.
