    0:00 - 0:27 Such a wild and upsetting story.
0:28 Korbin Albert has "liked" and re-posted very upsetting content on social media
0:38 We read from a headline about the situation
1:01 Someone on Twitter found Korbin's upsetting Social media activity that was homophobic and transphobic and targeting Megan Rapinoe
1:35 Zodiac signs being demonic that one wasn't as bad
1:54 Cisgendered was offensive to Korbin
2:06 God was "saving" someone from being gay and transgendered
2:27 We read more from the article about what happened and what the posts were about
2:59 USWNT has always been a safe space for LGBTQ+ community
3:47 Reposing these things when she plays for USWNT who champions LGBTQ+ rights and is at the forefront of inclusivity
4:11 If she didn't want to be playing for a team who champions diversity and LGBTQ+ why not just decline a call up? She plays in Europe so she wasn't very well known here in the States before her call up
4:43 The USWNT fans are very pro LGBTQ+ and it is hurtful to see one of the players re-post things like this
5:22 She also liked something very personal about Megan Rapinoe! A Meme HAPPY that Megan got hurt in her final game! WTF!?!
6:09 Korbin was happy that Megan got injured. Korbin is also wearing number 15!!! WTF?!!!!!
6:35 Sometimes things are in the past 5-10 years ago. This was 6 months ago!!!!
7:00 She's young, will she learn? Her family seems MAGA. A family Tiktok mocking pronouns
7:37 Megan Rapinoe responded. Until Pinoe responded that is when it got a lot of traction
7:54 We read from an article about Pinoe responding to Korbin Albert - And more about Korbins reposts
10:25 Korbin's activity was found out then Megan responded
    10:40 Korbin's apology statement
11:10 Was it a good apology? Was it a PR apology? She's young and will learn?
11:23 People kill themselves over bullying
    11:48 Megan's official response to Korbin's activity
12:20 Some people use anti LGBTQ+ speech as their religion. But Korbin represents the USWNT!
12:36 Wanting Pinoe to get hurt!? That is Christian? Because she supports trans rights?
    12:55 Pinoe is number 15!!!
13:10 A lot of current and former players reposted Pinoe's instastory
13:27 We read some comments I saw online
13:40 But some people are defending her. That she can have her own beliefs.
14:05 There are a lot of Christian players who don't repost these types of things
14:34 More comments. Celebrating an injury is like WTF!?!!
15:10 This Is really bad Karma!!!! not good!
15:40 She is on the USWNT which is so important to LGBTQ+ rights. Will this keep her off the Olympics?
16:17 Emma needs to forget about player-player relationships. She needs to worry about things like this!
16:28 The locker room may be kind of icy for her?
16:57 Glad Pinoe responded to this. Korbins apology was standard/ok. Some ppl double down in situations like this
17:15 She had a game with PSG and she scored a goal. And her teammates seemed like they had no problem with her
17:35 Some of the reposts were unclear. But some are VERY clear
18:03 Upsetting that someone who represents the USWNT publically posts these. With so much bullying in the LGBTQ+ community
18:40 If you make a change I will forgive someone!
18:55 Did she not catch on that ppl were going to see these posts? What was she thinking?
19:24 Will any of her teammates be able to be "normal" with her?
19:57 The women before her did so much for her and those after her. Now she trashes on some members? Not cool

The context of the Rapinoe injury “like” was Rapinoe’s statement that the fact she got injured in her last game proved God doesn’t exist. I assume Rapinoe meant to be funny, but the comment could be viewed as disrespectful to religious people.

@annamc3947, thankyou, yes, context is important. Albert was NOT "liking" Rapinoe's injury. She was "liking" the satirical response (meme) to Rapinoe's statement that her injury is proof that God doesn't exist. And yes that statement by Rapinoe was offensive to many Christians, Jews, and Muslims who believe in a God. I must have missed the press conference where Rapinoe apologized for offending and marginalizing their beliefs. Albert played for Notre Dame, a Catholic University, it appears she's a Christian. She posted NO attacks against anybody, she shared a religious sermon, a patriotic video celebrating Independence Day, and shared posts of people praying for their God to help trans people, on HER social media, with HER friends and family, and now she is being persecuted for her views. If you don't like it STAY OFF her social media! Great way to grow the women's game, alienate Christians, Jews, and Muslims because compared to them the LGBT+Q population is overwhelming. It’s unfortunate that she won’t be able to take those comments back. It’s who she is and what she believes in, own and so be it. She’s 20 and an adult. She can be stupid like that on her club team. It’s up to the club to accept it or not. But the USWNT represents more, she represents the country, her teammates and it’s both an honor and privilege to be on the team. Her behavior is unbecoming of what the crest represents. Being disrespectful to trans, other players, representing hate and the LBQT community is just unacceptable. There’s going to be a lot of tension on the team. Hopefully the USWNT addresses her action. An apology is too late, it’s an ingrained thing.

    • @Footielad560
      @Footielad560 Před 2 měsíci +1

I think she's entitled to her opinions and that the USWNT shouldn't be about promoting a set of proscribed views, that goes against the principle of inclusion. I'm not religious but many football players are, and most religions in their strictest application have negative views about homosexuality and transgenderism - I don't think their right to believe in those should be denied. Hate speech however, in this case liking a post which celebrates the injury of a fellow player, is abhorrent and I hope not only the national but her club team addresses her action properly.

This is really upsetting to hear. There have to be (at least some) repercussions for such immature and offending behaviour.
In Austria, there also was an incident recently.
Following a Vienna derby victory (men's game) between Rapid (club with most supporters in Austria) and Austria Vienna, the assistant coach, and 5 other players of Rapid were filmed chanting anti gay fan chants ,using a megaphone, in front of their fans.
The Austrian Football Association, based on its anti discrimination rules, reacted fast and decided to suspend the involved players and staff (partly on probation) for up.to 6 matches.
The Austrian national team coach also didn't call up involved players for the next friendly matches in preparation for the Euro 2024.
Even if Korbin Albert is still young and maybe quite aware of her actions, an apology isn't enough. She will have to show through her future actions that she understood the seriousness of her reposts.
It would have been appropriate if Korbin had been, at least, suspended from the She Believes Cup roster of the USWNT.

The whole thing was taken out of context. Some people defined the “repost” as “anti-LGBT”. FALSE. If you watched that video, you would understand. Some people defined the “like” as “celebrating teammate’s injury”. Again, FALSE. After suffered her career ending injury six minutes into her final game, Pinoe said that it is a proof God does not exist. The post Albert liked was a response to Pinoe’s statement using exactly the same storyline - the God took a vacation (implying the God does exist but was just absent when Pinoe injured). In what way this liked post could ever been interpreted as “celebrating”? If Pinoe can joke about God, they can too. This is a perfect response to Pinoe’s statement. I also saw plenty of double standards. When Pinoe said God does not exist, she did not think this was hurtful for her teammates who believe in God. While when one of these teammates reacted with the same storyline, it was hurtful. When Pinoe said God not exist, her Christian teammates should feel safe while one of her teammates reposted someone else’s sharing of his de-trans experience, the team became unsafe. When gay players started to show up in the team, no one pushed back while when a Christian player showed her true color, gay players are not OK since there is no place for hatred. By the way, I am not a Christian. I am Chinese. I knew what it looked like back in the Chinese culture revolution in the sixties and seventies. It looked very much like what the American is now - this is and ONLY this is the truth. Anyone who does not think this way is totally wrong and must be cancelled in any aspect of their life. I am sad to see America, once as a freedom lighthouse country for the whole world, has now become so radical and extreme.

I wonder if Albert thinks that 'God' worked to injure Rapinoe and so she could 'replace' her. That is incredibly funny to think about. I will always think of Pinoe as the one who fought against the status quo, and pushed the USWNT so far forwards, both in her technicality and in terms of equal pay/rights/standing. She is the one that made people talk about womens soccer whether it was for good or bad, without her work I doubt Albert would be enjoying such nice player benefits. Also Pinoe's PKs in the 2019 WC, as well as golden boot and Ballon D'or. She is a legend on so many levels... and her work continues. Pinoe will never be forgotten by fans and even future players. Here in UK, the argument against trans athletes in women's sport, made on the basis of safety reasons, seems to me to be winning.
The joke about playing on the right wing made me laugh more than I have in a while.
I wore glasses, but field hockey enabled me to play a team game. The school only taught it to girls, until we were over 16. The female sports teachers thought the girls would thrash the boys and teach us a lesson. I decided otherwise and went in goal and did not concede. I immediately got picked as a defender in the mixed school team to play the staff, never having played. I then got picked to play for the staff, as a "ringer" against another school's staff, in a mixed game. I used to think the danger was from grown women hitting me with their stick for having just turned up and being able to play, like some imposter. Wearing sports kit with glasses got me laughed at by the younger brother of a GB rugby player too, thinking I was his football referee. I noted there was an incident from field hockey in US news.

Although I am a huge fan for woso and have been since the France WC, it feels more and more apparent that a lot of players are quite out of touch. And sure the same and even more could be said about men's sport. I think what it comes down to is that the path to professional sport caters mostly to very priviledged kids. So much dedication and time is required to reach that level of excellence in your sport that you definitely need total support from family, and even money. Soccer is not a cheap sport. Also just from spending so much time in the soccer playing bubble, I think some players could be lacking their common sense and normalcy that comes from spending time socialising and meeting people totally different to you. Like most of these players surely had a full college scholarship, and travelled across the world for junior careers. They have already travelled the world as a teenager. And have many of these players worked a real job? Like sure Albert is talented, but just because you are talented doesn't entitle you to a spot on the team. There are thousands of talented people everywhere. And even more so, soccer isnt everything. There is more to the world than soccer, and this is something Rapinoe always reminds us of.

This is a dreadful and dangerous mistake and you can't make mistakes like this these days because media is far reaching. Even in her apology she hasn't been given adequate advice. Its an apology that feels generic. She needed to apologise to Megan Rapinoe and the community she has harmed. Naming and acknowledging would have helped her case. She could even say...I believe in God and all of his commandments and I believe in love and compassion for all human beings. Christianity doesn't condone hatred, marginalisation or judgement and I have made a huge mistake. I hope she finds some adult guidance and mentorship to help her mature and develop some compassion. Imagine finally reaching your dreams and being so publicly hated...ironic right? Apparently there were 96 out queer players in the women's World Cup in 2023...Not sure how she's going to recover from this. There's nowhere to hide.

At the same time, this behavior, theses EXPRESSIONS of such opinions is unacceptable as a member of the USWNT. LGBTQIA+ ppl are the backbone of women's sports, many of her peers are Queer. She REALLY f*cked up big time. Megan Rapinoe's response was class, her celebrating her injury as holy intervention for living that sinful gay life was warped & frankly quite antiquated. Her apology seemed very inauthentic. Her reputation is now forever tarnished, & that feels warranted. I think the 'pronoun is USA' thing is baiting trans activists, not simple humour. But I do also think it's not as straightforward as Rapinoe is making out. What if an extremely physically large and powerful (who has been through male puberty) trans woman starts playing in one of the top leagues and starts banging in goals because they are just much bigger than the defenders? Is that fair on those who have been through female puberty, especially if their goals start to win tournaments for their team? Or - as has already been the case I believe - seedy man starts 'identifying as a woman' to get access to female changing rooms? Just saying 'I support all trans people' is not going to cut it. Unfortunately we have to take into consideration the dark side of human nature with these issues, as well as the valid concern about being inclusive toward people who feel uncomfortable with the gender assigned to them at birth.
