BeRAD I LOVE your stuff
BeRAD you should put a fmf gnarly pipe on the 250
rather easy to inspect a 2 stroke via the exhaust port before pulling the whole thing down.
Peter Taylor or a simple compression test will tell the story
And don't mean to be a keyboard warrior but if your just doing a piston change you don't actually have to take the head off, just save you a step and some time
Respect for doing a rebuild in a cast
My brother and I laughed so hard at your Swedish police video! We could just see the awkwardness.
BLDH SQUAD REPRESENT!!
So I kinda just did this for fun/boredom. I wanted to see how things looked inside after about 50 hours. Now I know it'll be good for another 150+ with ease. Also, if I have to rebuild it in my van van while traveling, it will be much easier now that I know how to do it all!
In your van van?
BeRAD sick stuff
I have old 250 ktm and it has nice habit of dropping piston skirt in the block between 50 to 80 hours did that 3 times whit forget piston so is started to replacing piston every 50 hours it is a lot easier and cheaper switch piston than replace bearings, rod and balance it every time. but even that does not help if you forget to switch jet and go flat out -30c temp got nice hole i my piston and rod is nice and blue about half way down
that's no rebuild it's a piston change
When you take something apart and put it back together, its called, "Rebuild" It doesnt matter if you replace shit or not.
helpful tip put some rags around the connecting rod so you dont drop anything down the bottom end
I was cringing so hard when he rawdogged that cir clip!! Would have been a fun time splitting the cases hahaha
why on gods great green earth would you take apart a motor and not replace the top end??? and you cant re use circlips
At least replace the rings
Cringing as he takes the c clip out of and doesn't have a rag in the bottom end
was sure hes gon drop that clip inside the bottom end :D
I feelzzz
Smaeeeeeer
@@motofaija moi
Should have been riding instead of taking it apart. I love my YZ's. They will run forever if maintained properly.
Neat Dude! I just acquired and rebuilt a 1999 YZ 250, my first! It's very interesting to see the similarities with my old beater and a newer nice ride! Thanks for sharing!
"What can you hurt just taking things apart?" *Instantly remembers story about BeRad taking his first bike apart*
I don't know man when I take them apart I always put new rings in they're cheap
def. one of the better Rebuild videos I've watched. Good detail and editing! 2 strokes look pretty simple compared to the 4 strokes I am used to.
even if you've worked on bikes for 20+ years it's impossible not to spill coolant
hahahaha truuuueeee
hardest thing doing rebuild is trying to not spill it everywhere :D
and here i am, thinking im just a slob..
Hell yeah man good shit! I am at 70+ on my YZ so I think I will wait it out a little. Maybe like 125-150
VroomVroomDana a suh dude!
#pussysquad !!!
VroomVroomDana i have around 50-60 hours on my 07 yz265
Are you adding a stroke? Should give it more power. Did you add a BeRad sticker to the piston before reassembling? That'll add like 5 horsepower, so I've been told...
Bruh why you do him dirty like that, this man would actually believe you and do it😂
You forgot to put your power band on
Yeah i noticed that too.
i think i saw him put the yellow powerband in. personally i like the blue powerband as it produces extreme top end power but still has enough low to mid range punch to giddy up when you need it. my mate put on two powerbands but only got an extra 50% more grunt.
billy liddy yeah I like the blue yellow mixed power band go really go with no 2 Stoke oil
I think I saw him put the yellow powerband on personally I like the “no powerband” one because it produces no power
Love the video!! Nice work "mechanic".
Damn dude that went pretty smooth I wish my jobs can go like that when I have to do work on my bike lol
couldn't of said it better Kendall that was smooth at the end bt BERAD iy yi yi
ive rebuilt many dirt bikes over the years a helpful tip is to put some rags or shop towel around the connecting rod so you dont drop anything down into the bottom end! but great job!!!! keep up the videos
ALWAYS have a rag covering the crank so that no dust or dirt can get in
Marlin Robertson yeah I should have while putting the cylinder on...I think it was alright though.
Generally it is but with an mx bike some dirt can get down there and splitting cases is not fun lol
You are right but usually the rag is for piston circlip not falling in the crank...
I have seen both happen but often dirt is harder to remove because you cannot pick it up with tweezers or a magnet
+Marlin Robertson I had to learn that the hard way, my brother and his friend we're taking apart my top end to check it, and my brothers friend dropped the circlip down the bottom endXD!
Nice, its been running rich but thats a good thing :) When the carbon is baked on the piston and brown its more towards lean.
Some people dont know that rich tends to make the piston crown cleaner and lean mixture bakes everything on it :p
Love seeing you work on it
I have to say I'm impressed. This is how it's done! Great job considering it was your first time doing it. Although I see you had some help along the way. ;)
I really hope you used new cir clips for the wrist pin though. These things really stop being safe when you reuse them.
Also making sure clips are either in 12 o clock or six o clock position so they don't compress and pop out with centrifugal force.
you should put a rag down the crankcase so you don't drop your piston clips and other shit down there, because if you do you have a LOT of work to get it out
that would have been a good idea! Luckily we did it without dropping anything haha
BeRAD yeah, we took my friends mopeds top end apart yeaes ago, and the clip went down, and then the upper rod bearing fell apart and all the damn bearing pieces fell down too. We had to take the whole thing off and shake it upside down :Dd
Georg1606 I dropped a piece of gasket and a piston clips down the crank it was so much trouble to get out
On my WR I dropped the valve shim down the head TWICE! Was able to get it out with a magnet but man was that scary.
it's scary as hell
Nice video, best thing about two strokes is they're super easy to rebuild!
I may be wrong but I was always taught that putting used rings back into a cylinder was asking for trouble. Enjoyed watching the video, way to go with a cast
Leave your radiator cap on when you take your drain bolt out and you wont have coolant flying everywhere before you can get the bolt out and bucket in place. Once its out and you have your bucket in place crack the rad cap and it'll drain. It's physics!
Good video! YZ250X is awesome!
Instead of takin off that carb boot, I take out the two bottom bolts of the subframe and lift it swing it up. Also you don't have to take off the shrouds you can just undo the bottom bolt from the rad on both sides and just take the whole tank and shrouds off in one piece. Just a suggestion if you're in a time crunch and want to save a little bit of time.
No left over screws? Wish I could do that xD
very informative, and empowering
Nice you take really good care of your stuff
u just earned yourself a like for that clip on the toilet
if i can give you 2 simple tips and tricks,
when you're removing pistonseeger put something in the hole of the engine, if seeger fall in there its finished,
when you wash your exhaust use gas, non water ;)
i hope you appreciate it
sorry foto the english i' m an italian boy!
Best way to put the piston and rings in the head is do it before hand but don't put it all the way in and then connect the piston to the rod! saves you from pissing around with a connected piston and squishing the rings in a tight area @7:50
Daniel Brown ahhh yes! Next time I'll try that thanks!
Daniel Brown
Till it falls out 3 times and you get tired of it lol
nice work dude :)
you should be putting in evens waterless coolant look in to it man it's the best stuff out there!
When I got my cast off from when I broke my wrist October 1st. I had half the grip strength. and prolly 30% less bicep strength. Have fun...
Good job bro. i recently did the top end on my yz125. 👍👍
Werner Sunkel hey man my yz125 needs a rebuild , what did you do once you got to the power valve ? Only part I'm confused about
Regarding carbon build-up; we add a little (about 1/4 cup) of carb/injector cleaner (or Sea-Foam) to each batch of premix. Keeps the piston & power valve super clean.
Good way to wash the oil of the rotating parts 😂
Damn nice video
Always use OEM pistons in your Yamahas. They are best. Also doing a new piston and rings at 50 hours is good insurance that the bike will not blow a top end. It's cheap insurance . Cool video
50 hours!!!! What a waste of time and money. And then reuse the most important thing!!! New circlips!!!! Dumb. My YZ's have been bulletproof for 20 years. I can hear when they need a top end and it ain't that often.
I was like dude you will mess up the timing but then i realise it is a 2 stroke motor hahah. Anyways love ya channel
Nice!
Great video.
Nearly 300k!!!
Nice buddy. Preventative maintenance is key
yoooooooooooo i like your video's man
Predictive is better, but preventative is better than nothing at least. And it's always good for peace of mind to check her out on the inside.
always put a rage in the bodom end sobyou dont drop your parts in there love you videos
Was still expecting him to pop a wheelie at the end there.
Love working on bikes, i would've done a compression check before you tore it apart. Funny vid!
At that point you might as well thrown a new piston and rings in it?
I wanna rebuild my 125 by myself. I'm just so confused about the power valve . Like what to do once I'm there .
Hey.. what do you use for pre mix ? what ratio are you mixing at ? looks super clean in that top end
hey berad, next time your doing the top end. before fitting the piston to the connecting rod, fit the piston to the barrel then do the wrist pin. good job btw!!!
Did you reuse your head gaskets and base gasket? I've heard they'll still be ok if you put them in the freezer over night, curious Thanks!
Pretty risky pulling that clip off without placing something in the opening to the crankcase to catch it. Good job. With my lack I'd drop it and have to split my cases.
I'm wondering what kind of camera you use when taking photos while your riding?
Earliest I've been please reply bro 💙
No need to pull that motor apart with those low hours.
I agree I like 30-50 hours for top ends on, you Can never do to much maintenance. I’ve always done my bike/truck maintenance early. I recently got rid of my 250 2 stroke and got a 13 Rmz 450 1 owner a buddy bought it new, he did amateur racing. The bike is great for a race bike but I ride 80%% trails. Had a fresh top and bottom end rebuild a $1000 full titanium fmf exhaust and a lot of other good parts. I can’t wait to sell it and get back on a 2 stroke.I wanted to give the 4 stroke thing a try and my biggest complains is no e start 4 strokes need e start and first gear is to tall for trail riding also overheats trail riding and I’ve put on over size radiators, silicone hoses running engine ice and a 1.8 radiator cap the only thing left to do is a boysen water pump and the last thing I wanna do is put a fan kit on It, I was raised on 2 strokes and just prefer them for the riding I do my 2 strokes overheated maybe 5 times if that in 20+ years and multiple bikes. Then when it comes time for a top end kit I can build a 2 stroke for $200 but let my 450 blow and first I’ve never built a 4 stroke race bike and second the parts are double or more. I’m just a 2 stroke guy, I need to come off the cash and get what i want, a ktm 300 like the factory guys rode in strait rhythm 👍
Oh man, that yz needs a little bit jetting. And also put a rag in the cranckcase when are you pulling out the piston clips. You dont want to drop that in to cranckcase :D
Stuff a rag around the piston before removing the circlip.
what stuff did you use to get the carbon off the head? tou used a toothbrush with something?
make sure to check the power valve assembly. They are notorious for those little screws coming loose on the main shaft that operates the power valves.
Also check the fuel cutoff solenoid in the carburator. There is a small rubber plug on the end of it that deteriorates and it is super prone to failure.
What gas and oil ratio do you use? I use 32:1 and my spark plug buried out after only 3 rides.
Nice vid. But, I would put a cloth underneath the piston when getting the axle from the piston out and back on. Just to prevent getting the little ring falling into the engine.
how many hours/miles at the time of this "rebuild"?
very good
The same piston and rings?
1:05 Just taking a shit😂
Did you put a new piston in or just clean the little carbon build up that was on there?
I was waiting for some wheelie but then realize that you can't :D
Nice video , I do mine right now on my yz250x 2019 , what is the brand of your premix oil on the back ground and your mix ratio thanks !!:)
hey any reason why you take the farings off the tank? I usually just undo it at the rad. I'm lazy lol
TIP!!! when you take cylinder off and your taking piston off put rags in the bottom end incase you drop a clip in it or something
yay!!!!!
Hey Brad... What fuel tank do you have fitted to you bike. I'm looking for one for my YZ250X. That one doesn't look to ugly at the fill, I don't like the way some of them stick up.
Cheers from OZ
Bro you got me stressed when you sure taking that circlip out with nothing protecting the bottom in what is it fell in there bro! I'm dying good job for trying
Mcjack57 some of us only learn the hard way😆 that's where experience comes from 😎
That looked really good for 50 hours. What oil and ratio do u run?
I remember my first 2 stroke I rebuilt I took the Trany apart not know how it all went back with the washers and forks that was a pain.
Just a hint!! put a rag around your rod and bottom end when pulling circlips out of the piston. If one of them fall into the bottom end you will be spending big dollars to split the engine to recover the clip. A simple solution!
Did you have to remove the power valve to remove the cylinder head?
Fuck I love your outro
looking at the manual whilst taking a shit...best place to learn
I did a new top end on my 89 cr250r had it bored and sleeved and it is alot easier to rebuild it with the motor out
What tires you run on it when you go street riding?
good job ;)
I know how it feels to not be able to ride I've just got my second surgery yesterday and I have to wait for another 3 weeks before I go back out 😥😥
How many hours did you do before the rebuild?
What oil brand and mix ratio are you running?
What kind of tank do you have on your YZ?
Anyone else notice when he was looking in the manual he was on the toilet 😂
How long you can drive with a piston in this bike?
2 things
put it on dtc first so the piston has the most room to fuck with it and put rags underneath so you dont drop shit into the bottom end
now usually you're not supposed to ride it on the first heat cycle...I usually heat cycle it about three times before I even ride it you have to seat the rings and let the bike get adjusted
Lol good ol tape over the spark plug hole.....only make the dropping something down the hole mistake once.
What premix oil do you use?
7:37 when she's on her period... 😂
mino71 lol 😂😂😂😂 so true
Lol and his face right after fingering that bloody cylinder.
There is nothing funny about menstruation.... Period 🤔
Brad was on the toilet reading the diagram
You forgot to stuff the crankcase with rags! If anything like that clip shoots off in there you will have to split the cases!
How'd you get that jet ski up there?
