    So I kinda just did this for fun/boredom. I wanted to see how things looked inside after about 50 hours. Now I know it'll be good for another 150+ with ease. Also, if I have to rebuild it in my van van while traveling, it will be much easier now that I know how to do it all!

      I have old 250 ktm and it has nice habit of dropping piston skirt in the block between 50 to 80 hours did that 3 times whit forget piston so is started to replacing piston every 50 hours it is a lot easier and cheaper switch piston than replace bearings, rod and balance it every time. but even that does not help if you forget to switch jet and go flat out -30c temp got nice hole i my piston and rod is nice and blue about half way down

    Nice, its been running rich but thats a good thing :) When the carbon is baked on the piston and brown its more towards lean.
    Some people dont know that rich tends to make the piston crown cleaner and lean mixture bakes everything on it :p

    Leave your radiator cap on when you take your drain bolt out and you wont have coolant flying everywhere before you can get the bolt out and bucket in place. Once its out and you have your bucket in place crack the rad cap and it'll drain. It's physics!

    Instead of takin off that carb boot, I take out the two bottom bolts of the subframe and lift it swing it up. Also you don't have to take off the shrouds you can just undo the bottom bolt from the rad on both sides and just take the whole tank and shrouds off in one piece. Just a suggestion if you're in a time crunch and want to save a little bit of time.

      I agree I like 30-50 hours for top ends on, you Can never do to much maintenance. I’ve always done my bike/truck maintenance early. I recently got rid of my 250 2 stroke and got a 13 Rmz 450 1 owner a buddy bought it new, he did amateur racing. The bike is great for a race bike but I ride 80%% trails. Had a fresh top and bottom end rebuild a $1000 full titanium fmf exhaust and a lot of other good parts. I can’t wait to sell it and get back on a 2 stroke.I wanted to give the 4 stroke thing a try and my biggest complains is no e start 4 strokes need e start and first gear is to tall for trail riding also overheats trail riding and I’ve put on over size radiators, silicone hoses running engine ice and a 1.8 radiator cap the only thing left to do is a boysen water pump and the last thing I wanna do is put a fan kit on It, I was raised on 2 strokes and just prefer them for the riding I do my 2 strokes overheated maybe 5 times if that in 20+ years and multiple bikes. Then when it comes time for a top end kit I can build a 2 stroke for $200 but let my 450 blow and first I’ve never built a 4 stroke race bike and second the parts are double or more. I’m just a 2 stroke guy, I need to come off the cash and get what i want, a ktm 300 like the factory guys rode in strait rhythm 👍

    Hey Brad... What fuel tank do you have fitted to you bike. I'm looking for one for my YZ250X. That one doesn't look to ugly at the fill, I don't like the way some of them stick up.
    Cheers from OZ

    I remember my first 2 stroke I rebuilt I took the Trany apart not know how it all went back with the washers and forks that was a pain.

    Just a hint!! put a rag around your rod and bottom end when pulling circlips out of the piston. If one of them fall into the bottom end you will be spending big dollars to split the engine to recover the clip. A simple solution!

    Did you have to remove the power valve to remove the cylinder head?

    How long you can drive with a piston in this bike?

  • @bushbasher69
    @bushbasher69 Před 6 lety

    2 things
    put it on dtc first so the piston has the most room to fuck with it and put rags underneath so you dont drop shit into the bottom end

    now usually you're not supposed to ride it on the first heat cycle...I usually heat cycle it about three times before I even ride it you have to seat the rings and let the bike get adjusted

    You forgot to stuff the crankcase with rags! If anything like that clip shoots off in there you will have to split the cases!
