Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (PS2) Forging of the Vampire Killer

- The first PlayStation 2 game I ever owned, and a damn fine Castlevania game, if for no other reason than for providing an incredible prequel story for the entire series.
Here's the cutscene seen soon after beating all five bosses in the opening levels. This shows one of the pivotal moments in the story: the creation of the Vampire Killer used in almost every Castlevania game. This cutscene also delivered quite a shocking twist.
I'm secure enough in my manhood to admit that I've cried because of a game more than once. Aeris getting killed in Final Fantasy VII was not one of them. This was. - Zábava
That was an emotional scene in that game. It also has a sad ending because you couldn't save the girl you love unlike other castlevania games.

Walter became trapped in the Crimson Stone after death. Sara's soul was bound to the whip. Walter was evil, but Sara was good and yet both seem eternally trapped. In some ways this makes Sara the great hero based on level of sacrifice. Imagine how lonely she would be all those centuries?
matrix1240 942 years later, the power of the Vampire Killer has been rested and Sarah after a very long centuries of being trapped in the whip to help the Belmont clan (that includes the Morris too), her spirit finally laid to rest and joined with her beloved Leon in the heaven.

And both would end up being trapped in the moon forever, thanks to Julius Belmont.

Alot of Castlevania fans are… _girls_ (surprising) but also a 50/50 split between Asia and the rest of the world, and they’re all equally don’t know how to communicate between each other so… _I hope you like homework for your castlevania prologue_ because it’s surprisingly short and brief and doesn’t take hours or something to be up to date with the story
Fun fact: both the vampire killer and the stone are of vampiric elements and origins, both of them functions differently due to their purposes and how they’re used. Vampire killer is used to dispel the night creatures, with holy intentions, unfortunately, it also drains the life out of people who isn’t of pure Belmont origins… _unless you prove your true strength… but that’s fan theory._ the Crimson stone is used to become the night, with the intention to defy god and forevermore… yeah that’s it, it depends on the user’s intention on what to use with the crimson stone, there are vampires who only wish peace, there are vampires who wish dominion on humanity and there are Mathias Cronqvist
Though bittersweet, the ending to this game is wholesome and does give closure. Leon couldn't save Sara despite exhausting every effort possible to do so, but he was able to fulfill her last request by giving her a quick and painless death, sparing her from a far worse fate, and with her sacrifice was able to slay Walter once and for all, honoring her memory and her dying wish.
The only question is, how long would it be before Leon and Sara are reunited in the afterlife. How long would Sara's soul be bound to the Vampire Killer before she is set free?
If her spirit is trapped into the VK (it's kind of vague what this ritual here does), then Aria Of Sorrow definitely has to be when she is finally freed. Julius says he felt the power of the VK leaving when Soma defeated Chaos.
Walter has a weird outlook on what it means to be tired.
Leon Belmont, the first-ever Belmont, timeline-wise.
Sara wasn't married to Leon. She was engaged to him, but kidnapped before their wedding.
I felt so bad for Leon here... all that work to save Sara and for nothing. But in the end, at least he was able to gain the power of the Vampire KIller to be able to defeat Walter.
Still lost 😞 the one person he loved 🥰
Not only that, he leaves of everything he has, his duty as a crusader, as a Duke, as a fellow comrade of his company and his kingdom, and it is likely that he is branded as either a traitor or a deserter. For the loving hearts of Sara’s memories
So the legendary weapon that belmonts were using has a sad story behind it,I can't believe it :(

It's a fitting origin, how the whip, and thus the fight against Dracula (AND THE NIGHT) requires great sacrifice.
The voice acting in this game is phenomenal.
It just came as a shock. I grew up in the 80s when 'save the princess' plots were the order of the day, and this is a prequel to a series that began in 1986. So seeing the damsel in distress die at the hands of the main character completely sidelined me.

This game is the prequel to the other Castlevania games, past and future sequals. It tells of the origin of the weapon used by almost each Belmont and their descendants, the Vampire Killer. It also reveals how Dracula came to be.
The voiceover are friggin' fantastic! Walter sounds really awesome!
With Crispin Freeman as Mathias and Hector was awesome
It could've been better if they had a few notes of the theme of the Vampire Killer whip as it is "completed".
Well, the Vampire Killer whip had to come from somewhere.
This should clear up the question why the morris clan is not capable of using the vampire killer to its full potential.
They ARE able to use the whip to its full potential, actually, through a ritual to make the whip recognize a Morris as its rightful owner. But not being a descendant of the Belmont bloodline (because the whip itself is bound to the Belmont lineage through a Blood Covenant) means that the only way they can fully utilize the whips power is by sacrificing their own life force to wield it, meaning one who uses it too much could cause them great harm or even kill them. It is what killed John Morris after Bloodlines, because he used the whip so much that his wounds were unable to heal properly after his battle with Dracula, leaving him with a severely shortened lifespan.
It is also why he so adamantly wanted his son Jonathan to learn how to survive on his own strength without the Vampire Killers power. Jonathan resented his father for this, thinking that John was trying to hold him back, but in the end all John wanted was for his sons safety, and Jonathan eventually comes to appreciate his father for this.
Leon was supposed to be a knight in the Crusades. His costume looks fine.
He was a Baron.

It still looks more advanced than Simon's who wears almost nothing but an animal skin and shoulder pads. He even wears animal hide boots which suggests Viking era Europe
I didn't mean to start an argument of any kind. I was merely pointing out that Sara was kidnapped before she married Leon, so any child she had with him would have been a bastard in that era. Please, don't jump done my throat because of a comment I made based on the info given from the game. But, given it's Konami, a secret child might have been likely.
CoffeeOwl or he could have married someone else. Just saying they weren't married yet so in that era they're union wasn't witnessed even in God's eyes so yeah.
Be noted leon might not be the only belmont..
The whip only works for his direct descendants that’s why the morris clan can’t use it with out battleing the echo of richter dispute being related to Leon he could have a identical twin brother with a thousand children but not one could use the full power of the whip meaning if Leon. Had no kids the whip wouldn’t work because there was no echo to fight yet.
Ever play Curse of Darkness? Trevor didn't exactly look like an Arnie-style Conan there.
That's one of the few Castlevania games, I never played....
But if you like God of War-style action with a bit of Metroid-y exploration, I'd say give this game a shot.
@megagrey There was that ONE moment of voice acting, at the VERY beginning... "Ada! Adaaaa!!!!" I thought that was awesome as a kid, haha.

IGA was not even involved with Lords of Shadow- and it is a reboot of the franchise. it has nothing to do with this timeline.
Which may or may not include Sonia. Resurrection was suppose to revamp her story and make it more consistent than her Legends appearance, but alas....

@Romansteel13 Actually, I think Legacy of Darkness is the best 3D Castlevania. Fuzzy textures, no voice acting, simplistic plot...but it came the closest to putting everything that's great about Castlevania in 3D. I did an entire review spelling out why critics have their heads up their asses.
They need to remake this game.
Yes you do. It's not a perfect 2D-to-3D conversion like, say, Metroid Prime, but it rocked nonetheless.
