  • My battery was disconnected and removed from this $280 96 Toyota Camry which resulted in my car alarm going off non-stop and my starter not working after I put in a fully charged battery. Here’s how to fix it: rotate the ignition key/switch FIVE (5) times from the starting position to the “ON” position (do not turn the key to the “Start” position ONLY to the ON position 5 times

Thank you for the comments / instructions on resetting the car alarm. Worked on neighbors 1994 Camry , unplugged the horn fuse / relay to stop the beeping then stepped on the brakes and turned key off to on five times and fixed the problem.

My 98 Camry was idle for 6 weeks with a charger on the battery to keep it charged up. When I went to use the car again, the drivers side electronic door lock and door key would not unlock all the doors, just the drivers door. When I opened the drivers door, the alarm would always go off. I did the BYB "rotate the ignition key/switch FIVE (5) times from the starting position to the “ON” position". Problem solved, it all works again. THANK YOU BYB a million times over !!!!

It kept raining and in no time, the door locks went poltergeist. Locks would just start locking and unlocking dozens of times while driving the Camry, everytime I put on the brakes with the headlights on, the doors would unlock it was CRAZY. I sprayed anti corrosion fluid on all ground connections, engine compartment, passenger compartment, the trunk compartment, and the driver side window switch (removed, sprayed, and replaced). After a few days the poltergeist left and now normal again. Crazy !!!!

Yes the reason that happened is because a fuse is blown. That is what happened with mine. Check under the hood for all fuses. The fuse I know that cause my car to do that was a 7.5 AMP Dome Light fuse located under the hood. Hope this helps. Make sure every fuse is replaced if they are blown. A 50 cent fuse can cause a $200 problem. Remember this is electrical Gremlins....

I have a 1999 Toyota Avalon and it does the same thing when you change out batteries...I have to turn the ignition switch on, hold the red button and brakes at the same time for about 10 to 15 seconds and it resets and turns the alarm system off!

Just had this happen on a 2001 4runner I bought months ago. I let the battery run down, jumped it and having the same issue. I haven't trouble shooted it yet but will give it a look over. If its like my 1997 Tacoma I was able to bypass the alarm. Will let you know if I figure it out.

So if alarm goes off like this it might be a fuse ? My Camry does this once in a while & the exclamation light turns on
. Not sure what that name of light is.

Figured mine out. Remove the lower panel and follow the litte red light wiring to a black box which is the aftermarket security. Unplug the the large white wiring connection to the black box. Rehooked the battery..no more alarm sound and car stared right up.

I just swapped the battery on my '99. After leaving both cables hooked up for about 30 minutes, I then removed the positive cable for about an hour, then reconnected it. After reconnecting, the car started with no issues.
BTW, my reset button is missing.
Perhaps you will find this information useful for future uses.

1999 camry alarm shut off/& Start Car)
this alarm rearms itself for no apparent reason about twice a year.) lol
this concerns turning off AND Re-setting to OFF the factory Alarm & Starting the Engine of a 1999 Camry LE
after thinking (initiated by a Toyota dealer) that my problem was result of a Low Battery,
the battery tested good. the battery was removed/un-hooked from both terminals) for as it turned out, over an hour)
as I checked many fuses.(all were good) & after the hour) put battery back in . . . same problem alarm goes off.,
    car will not start.
So I sat in the car for a moment and after 30 seconds or so the alarm stopped & then I remembered someone said
1.(sit in the driver seat with door closed, and foot on Brake . . .
2 turn key to where the transmission is able to be put in the Neutral position, put it in Neutral . . .
3 push & HOLD the red alarm button (mounted in dash to left of steering wheel)
and HOLD IN Depressed for 10-15 seconds.
BUT . . sometimes this will not work for me every time.
i also think that after holding in the button . . putting it back in PARK, turning off the ignition pulling, removing the key . . then starting it works sometimes also. I'll tell you where I wish the toyota engineers had this alarm. That is correct.
THEN the engine was then able to be started. after hours of trying EVERYTHING ELSE.
I hope this will work for you. But in my case the alarm button was a definite factor.
(which the glovebox manual which came new with the car) . . did not mention) AT ALL)
And the Alarm stayed off afterwards & did not re-activate. It WAS off previously and had not been an issue.
But I think the car sitting 4 days where the night temperature got down to 15-20 F was a factor in play.
    Because nothing else had changed.
Note (I had tried everything the glovebox manual said to try in order to solve my problem to no avail)
