    Nah it had to be ken to do the sacrifice. The man that loved Godzilla the most throughout both movies ultimately sacrifices himself to not only rescue Godzilla but to help prove that he was right and Godzilla wasn’t their enemy. The father just doesn’t make much sense to me. We got those moments of the father when he was face to face with him on the boat and when they were face to face in the sub underwater. Plus with the mother doing her sacrifice at the end it kinda doesn’t make sense. To have the father sacrifice too.

    One of the most entertaining theater watches in "recent" memory (still feels like 2019 was last year). Just a room full of people wanting to have big, dumb fun, and that is exactly what we got. My biggest gripe with the 2014 movie is how little of the big lizard guy we got and how much time we spend with dull humans (I'm guessing that's not even remotely close to a "hot take"). And the humans are just as dull and dumb this time around... but this time we got even MORE destruction that TEN Man of Steel third acts! I just remember laughing nonstop, whether it was the deliberate cheesiness of the human cast, or every time big things do a big thing. I pumped my fists, belted out laughs, and jumped in my seat... and I wasn't alone. It is a rare occurrence when an entire theater full of people are in emotional unison, and every single story beat, big monster thingy, and explosion was met with shrieks of adoration. And reminded, I knew for a fact that many of the people around me were not big Godzilla fans, as I knew many of them personally. And yet, they all were smiling at the end, whether it be for the fact they were fully entertained, or just happy to see their favorite monsters on screen. No matter what the subjective perception of quality is, when a single movie does this to a diverse group of people, that's special. KOTM will always have a place in my heart, even if I never watch it again. I'll always have this wondrous memory, and I look forward to having an experience as fun as this. Oh yeah, and the video was good too. Proud of you kid.

      I legitimately envy that experience because, while I was having a good time, the two times I saw it in theaters it felt like I was the only one there even remotely enjoying myself. It is in fact big suck that a lot of us won't be able to experience that this time around with GvK but so long as it provides a good experience with friends, that's all I need.
      Thanks a ton, boio! Really means a lot.

      The humans in 2014 are hated for a dumb reason. They are well acted and this fandom is just filled with brats

    I still can't get over how nonsensical the opening scene is. It's just there to create a twist for the audience. She could've just walked out with the Orca and joined with Lannister without anyone knowing. But no, she has him, her co-conspirator, the man she is working with, rampage through her own lab and murder everyone around her, including her daughter (she wasn't supposed to be with her in Mothra's cave, remember). How does that make any sense? It doesn't. It's just there to later have the surprise that they're on the evil side and every time I rewatch this movie it bugs the hell out of me! All the monster stuff is great though, especially the introduction of Rodan.

    Pretty much everything I agree with and even though it would be a significant character moment for the dad to sacrifice himself I still don’t think it would have hit harder than it did with Serizawa (not saying it hit hard but yeah) plus if the dad stays alive through Godzilla vs Kong maybe he’ll be a good enough character we can connect to in the future anyway yeah I love King of the Monsters and it seems like a good set up for Godzilla vs Kong without purely existing only to build that movie up although I do think King of the Monsters is very flawed I mean you pretty much spoke my mind in the video

    I dunno, the Kaiju fights did not grab me. Like, there are some design things I appreciated, but the way these monsters are handled, I just... struggle to connect to them, the characterization is just a bit lacking. Like, Kong is *more* characterized in that movie, but by GvK, it still just feels shallow. They keep trying to tell me why the monsters are doing what they're doing, but it just feels like they're doing things because the script told them to. I dunno, these movies all lack a level of like... charm? I dunno, I feel like they don't want to make it as simple as the reason the monsters were fighting in the showa movies, because *that* would be stupid? But they've replaced it with something that's not only stupid, but complicated and boring to watch. Like, the idea that these monsters are reacting to the presence of an alpha is.... boring, and in the original film with these four monsters, I guess it was stupid that they were essentially sorta having an argument, but that was fun, I mean they had character. I dunno, if you wanna make the movie dumb, you gotta make me smile, and none of these movies make me smile.

    There was so many cool things that were just brushed aside. I mean Washington DC was flooded with the military fighting Rodan in the US capital. Ummm i would like to see that movie please. It was like a two second clip lol

    I’ll admit I was a little disappointed after I first saw this movie because I was expecting it to be closer to Godzilla 2014 in terms of tone, Style, and sense of realism. But after watching KOTM a couple more times I love this movie, it was an American Godzilla movie that actually try’s to be a traditional Japanese Godzilla movie. Yes it’s dumb at times, some of the motivations don’t make sense, the tone is inconsistent, the pacing is too fast at some points, and characters aren’t the deepest, but honestly what Toho Godzilla movies doesn’t have these problems. In my opinion it succeeded in what it wanted to be; a big budget Classic style Godzilla movie.

    This is hands down the best review of kotm I've seen in awhile!. While I do understand g14, kotm and gvk all have mixed reactions from fans and their supporters and detractors, the toxicity on both sides can get annoying. Especially when it involves the criticisms of all 3 films, most especially kotm which gets the most hate unfortunately from detractors. You can criticize something without literally becoming toxic yourself and unfortunately too many people who were disappointed with this movie seem to lean more towards being ridiculously harsh towards kotm and end up being surprised when people get triggered by their words.
    Even if said criticisms are valid, you can always express them in more calmer and fair ways without triggering fans who love this movie with a passion. I love this movie with a passion (I agree with alot of your issues) but I realistically only get upset when the criticisms are expressed in the most offensive and toxic way possible. Your criticisms were fair, straight to the point, hilarious in some ways and overall calm mannered and mature. It felt like a legitimate criticism that didn't drag on for too long or felt like a baby throwing a tantrum.
    To end things you even said it's not a bad movie which is a plus for a fan like myself, you were disappointed yes, but you admitted this movie shines in some ways which I can appreciate. These are the types of reviews I enjoy, even if you didn't like the movie much, you still respected it in a way that was fair but not harsh. Granted some movies need harsh criticism (gamera super monster for example) but kotm definitely isn't one of them.

      I definitely try taking that approach to the best of my ability because I always have to take into account that there's a good chance somebody loves what I'm talking about. So I try my best not to put movies or their fanbases into the ground. Instead, my approach has been to try and have a discussion about it while also having fun. So I greatly appreciate that you left this comment and let me know that my efforts are coming through. Thank you a ton!

    Godzilla King of the Monsters was a terribly written movie with terribly written characters (that asian girl's whole character was just spitting out verses from old chinese/japanese legends, wtf?) and very little actual monsters shown.

      @JustinSVA  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Oh, that's not what I want at all. Deeply complex narrative out of a movie like this? I don't expect that at all. But something that's actually engaging and satisfying? Is that too much to ask for? Otherwise, why bother watching the movie when I could just watch the monster fights on CZcams. Maybe that's just me but I partially think this is part of the reason why this movie was a disappointment in the box office. It's only going to hold the attention of people who were already Goji fans to begin with, imo.

    One of the most ugly looking films of 2019. Too many particle and obstructions not to mention cuting away to the humans after 5 seconds of monster clashing. For what I heard Godzilla versus Kong has none of those problems.
