What I like most about the show is how it takes the "bullshit kaiju science to explain the cool shit happening" trope and does the exact opposite: "bullshit kaiju shenanigans to explain PhD Physics"

I am a fan of the “idea” of this show. It’s always been said “Kaiju can’t really exist, a creature that size would be so heavy it would never be able to move, and would crumple under its own weight “ so S.P. Had the idea to science how Kaiju break the laws of physics. BUT it went waaaay to hard and lost a lot of steam because of it.

Sad thing is that Godzilla: The Series still remain the best animated Godzilla series, at least in-terms of narrative. If only SP was more like that.

I binged the show and I liked parts of it, but I was also confused as fuck for 90% of it cause my mind was not comprehending a word they said the moment physics and math came up

So I wanted to write this as someone who very much enjoyed the series. TL;DR: its a show made for a frankly niche group of dorks without being up its own a*s about it.
I really love your video, and honestly just happy that people are talking about it and i wasnt alone in the rollercoaster that was this show. Even if you didn't personally enjoy it all that much, thank you for at least talking about it and spreading the word around. also OP is an absolute banger, its called [in case...] by BISH.
i agree with a lot, and i fully wished there was more Godzilla wrecking house. and yeah maybe the text sequence could have been slowed down.
however, personally ive always love sci-fi, and more over, the exploration of the science part.
I went into this series without really knowing what i was getting into, and it was a shock to be faced with a face-full of science. But instead of it being a turn off, or having to turn my brain off, or just boring, i saw it as kid in a candy store. The idea of using theoretical physics to push the bounds of this world was amazing to me. and i saw it as the natural progression of sci-ci. With the expanding world of science, there was more that sci-fi, as it always does, had more to bounce off of to work. though. yeah, this show is an extreme of sci-fi with its focus on the science first.
But i love this stuff. i've always loved the world of physics, and the idea of breaking down how things, even in fiction, work.
so when presented with a show that i feel perfectly captures the absolute eldritch horror that is theoretical physics, with the terrifying world of Godzilla, i was more than excited.
even when i didnt understand everything or anything explained in the moment, it only lit my nerdy ass flame even more. piecing together the mystery of the archetype and red dust. taking the stuff i already knew of the science, with the stuff that i didn't it felt so satisfying seeing everything fit together as the show went on. not saying i personally put it together, but that as a viewer, i understood how some of the science stuff fell into place, or why some of the science makes sense, no matter weird.
I don't mean to sound like the average rick&Morty fan when i say this, but while a casual viewer it is still very cool, and awesome to see the monsters and the fights, and that dumb fucking squishmellow dog that i want a plush of so bad, i do feel that the show is vastly more enjoyable because i already had some knowledge explored, and more importantly the want to learn more about it and see it used in fiction. Its a show made for people who have a love for theoretical Physics and a love of Kaiju movies. Its a small audience honestly, and outside of that audience i understand how its definitely hit or miss. but its those shows that when they find the right audience, they really click. and to me it was almost validating, that someone in one the of the coolest franchises feels the same. That there is just maybe a space for this brand of "what a f*cking dork" genre of sci-fi. Sci-fi that is open to the possibilities and explanation of scifi, without trying to act better or smarter then everyone else (like the average Rick&Morty fans). its just nerdy dorky because it wants to be, and because it loves it.
personally i want to see more of this type of scifi. that doesnt ONLY rely on bullshit scifi science, but utilizes the almost more confusing real-world science. Though i will not complain if maybe not as uh extreme as this show is.

Probably it was because I was trying to delude myself into thinking I was understanding the plot, but I always thought that everything was explained by how the archetype worked when we were shown the demonstration at the beginning of the series. Like, godzilla's blast was just him using the archetype to reflect energy into the present and by doing so creating a lot of energy that eventually converged into the breath. In the same way the anchilosaurus-like monster (sotry) could reflect light from the future and so was able to predict the shots. The cataclismic event? A giant blast due to the reflecting of energy of the machine in the well. And the dog-computer was able to talk to it's inventor by being reflected into the past. It all made a lot of sense in my head. That's probably because at some point i decided not to listen anymore and made up my ownn explanation.

Honestly, my brother and I love watching this show. We like to heckle it MST3K style and some lines from the show have become common phrases between us, like "Fly dammit!" and the annoying little robot's "Have to hurry X 3". My brother definitely understood the show's science better than I did, though!

-Text scenes are boring and are way to fast
-science stuff can be complicated and confusing at times

Pretty fun video, and I'd say I think I mostly agree with everything you had to say about the anime - although I personally feel more positively about it. I don't mind the technobabble and pseudo-science and theoretical physics, but that's an aspect that was handled infinitely better in Shin Godzilla.
The biggest flaw for me is that when we needed them to slow the fuck down, like during the texting scenes, it just wooshes by at mach 3. And when they're explaining concepts that really don't need a lot of time dedicated to them, they sit there FOREVER overexplaining things. I also really hated Pelops 2's personality, which made these portions even more unbearable. I didn't come out with a good understanding of it despite all of the science being vomited in my direction.
Ultimately they could've told the same basic story but with some of the science stuff trimmed back and it wouldn't have affected the plot at all. I did find the cast mostly charming, with Goro Otaki easily being the highlight for how goofy he is, and everything involving the monsters was legitimately engaging. I'd say the fight scenes with Rodan and Anguirus, and Godzilla Ultima's appearance near the end, were the highlights for me.

I think the style of the video does not fit the topic of this video a bit! Because of this, one may get the impression that most people treat G: Singular Point too superficially and not seriously. Although in reality, it looks like people are really too dumb for this anime!

    • @JustinSVA

The point I was trying to make moreso here is that if feels like it's a show trying to flex its intellectual prowess on us without fully capturing the substance it was building. The lore, atmosphere, things of that nature are all on point. I don't believe it's too smart for people. I think it's trying to be too smart for its own good, personally.
