    Love the verse series so far, no matter what, it just feels great to see godzilla and the other kaiju's come to life, 98 was my first taste of that

    I did not trip to watch this movie for obvious reasons but I do really like this movie. When Godzilla arrived in Hawaii and did the first classic roar, big chills up n down my spine! The kiss of death at the end was so epic

    I Agree that it Definitely Needed More Godzilla, but Honestly the Few Times a Monster is on Screen they’re Given the Single Best Portrayal I’ve Ever Seen for a Giant Monster in a Movie. Not even KOTM or Gvk Come Close to the Consistency and Realism that 2014 Had.

    • @JustinSVA
      @JustinSVA  Před rokem +1

      If there's one thing 2014 does astonishing well, it's really conveying the gravitas of these monsters. As if they are gods above us descended to our level. It's really cool and something I think the other movies in the MonsterVerse have a hard time conveying.

    • @oaktree149

      @@JustinSVA Exactly. KOTM and GVK have a Bad Habit of Lacking any Consistency, which Really Drags those Movies Down for Me, but Every Action Taken by a Monster in 2014 Feels Natural and the Effects of those Actions are Always Consistent.

    I’ve heard all of the complaints about Godzilla 2014 and they’re all valid. The human characters are boring, the pacing is slow, Godzilla isn’t in the movie that much, there’s too much teasing, you can’t see the monsters when they fight, characters make decisions that don’t make sense, etc. When I first saw this movie in theaters I was 11 and the only expectation I had was that I wanted a Godzilla movie that wasn’t the 1998 Godzilla. I was blown away by this interpretation of Godzilla, the acting, the cinematography, the sense of scale, and the atmosphere was awesome. Even watching it today I still love the filmmaking side of it that the overall movie still works for me. Is it the best Godzilla movie ever? No, but is it a interpretation of Godzilla that’s respects the source material and does something new? Yeah. I’m sorry that people didn’t like this movie, and I hope the next interpretation of Godzilla will be better.

    "Perhaps it's because I know that this entire universe is built on greed and not a real passion for the monsters involved..." You can say whatever the hell you want about Godzilla 2014 or the Monsterverse, but that's beyond the most insultingly wrong thing you could have said. If there is ANYTHING the Monsterverse has absolutely NAILED, it's the monsters themselves, both in design and personality. There is so much passion that went into the design process of each monster (especially in all three of the latest Toho monsters) and so many little nuances and details from scale textures to sounds to mannerisms to their themes and soundtrack presence. If there's "not a real passion" for the monsters themselves, then why is this Godzilla design one of your favorites? Good design never comes from dispassionate work. I suggest you look into one of the Monsterverse art books or behind the scenes on any of their designs. It might give you some perspective. There's a lot more I could say, but none of it's the typical brainless fanboy bullshit you kept referencing in the video. I wouldn't call you an idiot for that quote I took, just unaware. Anyway, this was a step down from your previous Godzilla video which is the whole reason I subbed, so if you continue covering Godzilla in the future, I'd love to see you only improve.

    • @JustinSVA
      @JustinSVA  Před 4 lety +1

      Perhaps what I was trying to say was a bit lost in translation, so to speak. I feel like there is passion for the monsters and such, especially when it comes to things like the design. However, when constructing this universe I see Legendary looking to make profit from a cinematic universe in the same way that Marvel did. So instead of creating a story around the monsters that would lead us to be more passionate, it feels like the monsters were left almost shoehorned into a movie where, interestingly enough, the story didn't fit. This is something I think I'd only apply to this movie though. King of the Monsters has a different approach that feels like absolute love for the monsters involved. That'll be a take for a different time though. Still, thanks for the comment!

      @@JustinSVA I figured you'd get technical with the wording. The double edged sword of 2014 is Godzilla IS a force of nature, so much so he's more of this looming presence rather than 2019's more, Godzilla vs Ghidorah is the core conflict approach. Thanks for actually having a conversation unlike 98.6% of CZcams comments.

    • @JustinSVA
      @JustinSVA  Před 4 lety +1

      @@whitedynamite8924 God, thank you for leaving an actual critique I can apply to my next video! It's very helpful knowing when my wording can be harmful to a video. Especially when I try to go for a more personality driven approach like this one.

    • @whitedynamite8924
      @whitedynamite8924 Před 4 lety +1

      @@JustinSVA The only time the film ever really disappoints me is when I compare it to the marketing. If you haven't seen it, look up the original Comicon Teaser that got leaked in 2013. That is the exact tone I wanted from a modern Godzilla movie, but 2014 ended up going for a more classic 50's monster movie approach. Both are a win in my book, but I thought you might find that intriguing. That teaser hinted at an almost horror-esque and or apocalyptic tone in which Godzilla would be the central focus. Last thing, 2014 is my absolute favorite Godzilla design to date (personality wise as well because I love the old samurai comparisons.) I actually like it more than 2019 because the 1954 style spikes look nice but not as streamlined. The perfect design would be the two mixed, I've drawn it countless times. The only weaknesses of the 2014 are his eyes and teeth being too small.

    Nice video. I like this Godzilla design, but my personal favorite official movie design is from 2002/3 (Against Mechagodzilla/Tokyo SOS). Personal favorite of all forms of media known to man would go to Godzilla Bros. Redux (Have you seen that?).
    Question: You didn't see personality when mama Muto was mourning her babies?
    I think the whole thing with Ford raising his gun to the Muto was of the mentality: "I ain't goin' out without a fight!" (Regardless of how little, if not nonexistent it would be to any onlookers.) In the moment where the situation looks bleak and there's no way out, I think it gives people a tiny bit of comfort knowing they did their best before they bit the big one. That's just me, though. Again, great video and I can't wait to see more.

    as a non Super fan of godzilla. i love every monsterverse movie. i just enjoy fun things, find it boring to look at everything wrong with a movie. which is why i watch other people wasting time doing it lolol. i like that this movie focuses on the horror of godzilla from humans. it just sucks that our heros are basic. and the cinematography is amazing unarguably. yet to watch a monsterverse movie i didnt love. if your not a fan yes watch this movie. its a fun horror/action movie. and shin godzilla is a 90% meeting bore fest movie until the end. best to just watch a youtube vid on scenes with Shin
