Shockingly, Godzilla: Final Wars is the first Godzilla movie I've ever seen. Me and my dad were able to go see it at a special showing at my local theater. The theater erupted with every takedown of a monster, and laughed at all the jokes. There were so many fans of the franchise around me and it remains my favorite theater memory to this day.
Man, I would have loved to see a movie like this in theaters. It just seems like the ultimate crowd pleaser in a way that you almost never see.

Final wars is basically the showa era modernized and scaled up. No sense at all, but fun to watch and completely insane.
When I was a kid I thought this movie was the ultimate Godzilla movie, I thought everyone loved it and had no idea that people were split on it. After looking back at on it though I can see why. Yeah it’s dumb, the monsters don’t get a lot of screen time, and Godzilla is insanely powerful to the point where it frustrates some people, but I still love this movie. I couldn’t think of a better way to end the suitmation era of Godzilla than with this movie. It’s still in my top 10 best Godzilla movies list and I hope legendary does something like this in the future.
Yeah, it's just a fun time and it delivers on that so well. Man, if Legendary did something like that, it'd just be insane. I'd love to see it.

Honestly, if the director set out to recreate the Showa goji with access to a great budget and equipment, then they definitely did it.
It’s enjoyable, goofy, and not to be taken too seriously just like the rest of the post-“Raids Again” showa era.
Final Wars is insane and barely makes sense, yet it’s probably the most fun Godzilla movie ever made. Its intentionally crazy, balls to the wall approach is a great homage to the showa era and it has some of the best suitmation in the series. Is it a great work of high art? No. But is it one of the most memorable, insane and fun rides a monster movie will ever take you on? Hell yeah haha
Man now I have to rewatch final wars.

The controller of planet X was played by Kazuki Kitamura, not Kenji Kohashi. Kohashi just has a short cameo playing himself and calling himself X for fun, he has nothing to do with the controller. They gave him the same voice actor for the english and german dubs, that's how that misconception that they are the same guy came to be in the fandom.😅
Just looked it up and you are correct! Crazy though because you look up Kenji's name and The Controller's picture pops up everywhere. Lol. Thank you for the clarification!
The second best Millennium Movie.
GMK is the best because it’s unironically good.
But Final Wars gets second place because it’s such a batshit insane experience.
GMK is REALLY good and is another one I want to talk about in the future. One of my favorites for sure and I'm overdue on a rewatch.

To me it goes:
1. GMK
2. Against Mecha Godzilla
3. 2000
4. Final Wars
5. Tokyo S.O.S.
6. Vs. Megaguirus
GMK and Against Mecha Godzilla are just so good. Tokyo S.O.S. had the potential to be really good but it's a bit uneven and Toho didn't really give it a lot of attention because of the 50th anniversary movie Final Wars.
Final Wars just has a lot missing for me because it feels too much like they took a lot of beats from the Matrix. Too much time is dedicated to human martial arts scenes and it feels like it was written and directed by teen boys. I love the monster fights and I actually like the slightly OP nature of Final Wars Goji plus it has the best looking Gigan in the series. Those are the only reasons I rank it above Tokyo S.O.S.
The director calling all Goji moves post 80s as shit also rubs me the wrong way because that includes vs. Destroyah, vs. Mecha Godzilla 2, GMK and against Mecha Godzilla.
All the power to you for loving this movie, it had potential and can be really really fun but it's definitely a middle of the pack Goji movie to me
Final Ears is hands down top 5 Godzilla movie for me, cause of how wild it is.
I honestly might agree with that. In just sheer entertainment value, it is like no other.

Man, I love Final Wars. This movie is fucking insane. My favorite background element is when they're having a meeting on the Gotengo to decide to free Godzilla, and the screen behind them lists "Jonny Jonny: Sniper" as one of the names. That's the best name of anyone ever.
We've got mutant Vegeta doing a Death Star run, a motorcycle fight... as in the motorcycles are USED TO FIGHT, weird American actors, the Gotengo being a flying battleship submarine drill laser... and of course living human Mike Haggar just kicking everybody's ass for the entire movie.
This movie rules.

Godzilla: Final Wars makes it more awesome when Gordon is dubbed by Tetsuaki "Tessho" Genda.
New York Cop, Black guy and homeless guy dubbed in Japanese makes it funny and sexy.
Even Fat man, Vancouver kid, Glenn and Nick dubbed in Japanese was fuckin cool.
I also like how an actor that spoke chinese dubbed in Japanese, another Foreign actor besides Gordon in Gontego dubbed in Japanese.
Hang on, Glenn and Nick? Were those two characters named after Nick Adams who played Glenn in Astro Monster? Why did it take me until now to get that reference?
Loved the final fight, and of course Frye was awesome too
The final fight is everything I could have ever wanted and more. Absolutely ridiculous but a ton of fun.
Final wars did well on dvd, rental and now streaming.
Just watched it today and it was frickin awesome love the main characters, Godzilla was awesome love the final wars design I just love how pissed off he looks I just love the look of his head and face
I love it when Godzilla pulls Keizer Ghidorah down HARD breaking KG's knees before launching him into the air and finishing him off with the signature atomic breath. I rewind those few seconds over and over whenever I watch Final Wars. I think the knee breaking move is the most savage move Godzilla has ever done except for maybe killing Baragon in GMK which never stood a chance

He did have feline facial features in the Heisei era. And that was one of the designs that inspired the Final Wars design.

the 98 movie is fine by itself. Its just a bad Godzilla movie. Im some what indifferent to it. I know some folks who got into Godzilla because of the 98 film, so cant knock it for that. Heck the animated series is actually pretty decent. It course corrects and stays faithful to the original Godzilla. worth a watch
That's definitely the one thing I can't knock it for. It got tons of eyes on the franchise and helped it grow even further. I've never actually watched the animated series and really should give that a go sometime.
This 'film' is messed up. It's Godzilla on acid AND crack.

Clearly you've not seem much of the Showa era films then....Because hands down like 90% of the Showa era films are just straight garbage made for children filled with Kennys that brought us garbage like dancing Godzilla and Flying using his atomic breath etc.
60% of the fights are human fights 3/10
So what your saying is you've not seen many Godzilla films.....Its always hilarious when "Godzilla fans" cry and complain about the human parts of some of the movies, when literally 90% of Godzilla films are minimal Godzilla and maximum human drama. Almost ALL of them are 5 minutes Godzilla traveling, 80 minutes humans, 5-10 minute end kaiju fight
