  • Does the arrival of the Rafale herald a quantum leap in Indian air power? Will they have any immediate impact on the India-China standoff? Are 36 jets enough for the Indian Air Force? Dr. Rajeswari Pillai Rajagopalan, Distinguished Fellow, and Angad Singh, Project Coordinator, discuss these issues in the context of this week’s Rafale mania.

It is said that on the 19th of March 2011 the French President Nicholas Sarkozy appeared on the national TV for an important announcement. France was going to war following a United Nations resolution, and the French military forces we're going to establish a no-fly zone over Libya. Even before Sarkozy’s speech started, the gears of the French military machine were already turning at the air base of Saint- Dizier where 8 Rafales were being prepared for their mission. They took off from a single runway, left the woods and the hills of the Haute-Marne behind them, and turned south towards the Mediterranean. After meeting with the tankers a couple of times, the pilots started to see the Libyan coast appearing on the horizon in front of them. Both the Libyan air defenses and the Libyan air force were intact, and both were alert and expecting an attack. Apparently, the Rafales entered the Libyan airspace, destroyed a number of vehicles and tanks of the Libyan ground forces, shut down a plane, patrolled the western Libyan sky for 2 hours and left unscathed. The Americans and the British started their operations the following day, but not before having launched about 120 cruise missiles during the night, and not before rendering the Libyan air defenses and the Libyan air force inoperative.
A little over a month ago, we saw a similar attack on Turkish targets in Libya, and I believe the Libyans have yet to figure out whose Rafales were used - the French or the Egyptians? LOL Enough said?

Does the infra created for the mirage 2000 help with the Rafale considering the Rafale Is the next generation mirage basically and does our Rafale have irst sensors

      It's not next generation Mirage.
They are different class of aircraft, Mirage is single engine aircraft and rafale is twin engine aircraft to begin with.

At this point, it seems India will go for follow on option and get 3 more squadrons.

It's a future-proof modern machine that connects the pilot(s) with the aircraft in a harmonious symbiotic interface with the helmet if that option is available. This is still a wise choice, knowing the alternative from other countries. France is not a bad country, it assists currently some African countries in the Sahel region to help their governments have some control over certain important issues. I'm sure India will appreciate how it operates, learn and discover from this marvel of engineering.

Does only big ordnance destroying few infrastructure and runway can make an airfield dysfunctional???? Won’t crippling your radars and communication and ground based air defence system through Electromagnetic pulse and cyber attack make an airfield equally or more dysfunctional not allowing your aircraft to take-off

DrMakarand P Jadhav Aksai Chin, as part of Ladakh, has always belonged to Tibet, which has been part of China since the Yuan dynasty.
The Sikhs tried to invade Tibet unsuccessfully in 1840, and six years later, India was invaded by the British, who took over Ladakh then, and then handed reins of it to India, while attempting to get a better deal from China, and also tried to invade Tibet in 1904, resulting in a bloody massacre of Tibetans.
Tibet was formed by the Chinese tribes in 500BC, and soon those tribes became a kingdom.
Tibet originally sought to be a friend of China in the 6th to 7th century, and later attempted to invade China.
China conquered them in return and they’ve been part of China ever since, except for the short period of time when India and Britain sought to invade them, both times, they were returned to China after less than 2 years each.
After the British returned Tibet to China, Britain attempted the same ‘divide and rule’ strategy that they deployed so successfully in India with Tibet, and started ideals of an independent Tibet in order to subvert it.
They failed, and the US later continued this subversion, where CIA funded Dalai Lama to do so. All of which have failed.
Summary: Tibet was founded by Chinese tribes, had infighting with Chinese, same as the rest of China, and remained as part of China for 800 years since the Yuan dynasty.
Tibet is part of China, Ladakh is part of Tibet, and Aksai Chin is part of Ladakh.

Once again a doctored Chinese history to fool the world. Keep repeating a lie a thousand times to make it feel true. Part of your legal and propaganda warfare. The same stuff you try out in South China Sea. Come out of it and try something new now,the world is aware about your tricks. Besides stop giving your historical legacy morality to the world now. We live in 21st century now and not in times of your feudal imperialist dynasty
