Cryptocurrency and the Bankman-Fried Litigation - Lessons Learned

Sam Bankman-Fried, who was the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX and the cryptocurrency trading firm Alameda Research, was convicted in March of 2024 of misappropriating billions of dollars of customer funds deposited with FTX, defrauding investors in FTX of more than $1.7 billion, and defrauding lenders to Alameda of more than $1.3 billion. He was sentenced in March of 2024 to 25 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $11 billion in forfeiture.
Nicolas Roos, an Assistant U.S. Attorney and a member of the team prosecuting Bankman-Fried, discussed the approach taken and arguments made by the U.S. Department of Justice in the prosecution. Mark Cohen, Bankman-Fried’s defense counsel, discussed issues and concerns raised in Bankman-Fried’s defense.
