- Brian Steel, the attorney representing Young Thug in his RICO trial, was held in contempt after refusing to answer a question from Judge Ural Glanville. Steel said he found out about a meeting Judge Glanville held with a state's witness and the prosecution in his chambers. Steel refused to disclose how he learned of the meeting. This extremely arrogant Judge, should be disbarred after this disgraceful behaviour. Four attorneys from the defense representing different defendants, have all requested a mistrial and he has denied all of them and put Steel in Jail for contempt.
The only one who should be angry is the lawyer, and the one who should be in jail is the judge for violating the law.
No one will ever hold these judges accountable. It's sickening.

Ashley Merchant is an absolute legend. She shows every attorney how to handle themselves in situations when those in positions of authority do something wrong…full of knowledge, not cocky but direct, with an even keeled power behind her words. It is abundantly clear that Integrity matters to her and every time I have had the opportunity to watch her in action, I am amazed by how she handles herself and the situation at hand, with tact and class on behalf of others to ensure the laws of the land are followed. It’s a beautiful site to see at this particular time. We need more attorneys just like Ashley Merchant out there. I was not a bit surprised that she is on the SF for other attorneys. She is all about doing the right thing all the time and at all costs, which seems to fairly uncommon in the last couple years. It frustrates me that Steel's actions, which only sought justice for his client, resulted in such a response. The defense should also be allowed in private meetings to ensure a fair trial. I hope there are larger implications from this case that inspire changes within the system.
Steeles action of withholding information in response to the Judges direct order is what resulted in him being held in contempt. Not his action of seeking justice

The bigger problem is that when a conscious decision about an ex parte meeting is made, someone still leaked it to the defense team. That's how witnesses get intimidated or killed. Steele clearly knew he got that information unethically and deserves his jail time.
The system doesnt need change. The meeting already was illegal under the current system.

So, the judge, the prosecutor, and a witness have a meeting without the defense being present, and the judge refuses to release the record of the meeting. And when the defense attorney raises the issue, the judge jails him for not announcing who told him about the meeting. Why that is relevant, the judge never says. I mean, talk about a power trip.
