  • Chris Rock, the extremely talented comedian and actor, has made a name for himself with his sharp wit and biting social commentary. As a result of the 2022 Academy Awards, he can also say that he has the distinction of being slapped by the one and only Will Smith. The Slap might be all that anyone remembers about the 94th annual awards ceremony, and for all intents and purposes, Chris Rock handled the situation like a professional.
But being a comedian, it’s impossible for the celebrity to say nothing at all, and it’s reported that Rock uttered one of his trademark quips backstage after the incident with Smith. Keep watching to find out what Chris Rock said backstage after getting slapped by Will Smith.

I remember reading that in one of the Oscar after-show parties Russel Crow punched a director or producer for talking bad about a fellow actress and he got blacklisted by Hollywood. In the last few years some of the jokes said by Oscar hosts and presenters have been at the expense of those sitting in the audience. Most of those jokes seemed offensive yet no one became violent. To me it seemed like Will Smith had an issue with Chris Rock before that night for him to act so. Jada laughed when Chris Rock got slapped so she couldn't have been that hurt. They've dealt with tabloids and late night shows poking fun at them before and have heard worse things said about them. I am sure I heard a GI Jane reference during the night before Chris Rock said it. It seems Chris Rock is playing down what happened so the media will move on from it. He handled the situation like a professional allowing the show to continue. I am sure it was not easy. All comedians, including Will Smith, have made offensive jokes and do not seem to care. They don't know if when they made those comments their target had a condition or were going through anything. It seemed noble that he was defending his wife but she was not in danger. Sadly the incident over-shadowed the celebration of the evening including the award he won.

I agreed with what Jim Carrey said in a different interview. Smith should of been escorted or thrown out of the Oscars. Too sit back down, with a smirk on his face, and then act like nothing happened is sickening. On his acceptance speech, he's busy crying, ect. His speech was akin to an abuser denying his actions/guilt and playing the victim. If he gets away with it, then he's telling his fans that it's okay to hit people. I saw G.I. Jane with my ex years ago. Demi Moore played an empowered character, and their was nothing wrong with the movie. Smith's wife supposedly made a statement about the incident saying, "It's a time for healing." In otherwords, she sidestepped the issue. No Jada, it's time for your hubby to get help/therapy.

I love jim carrey , but he didnt care about the slap, he was only upset that the holy oscars show wasn't respected. which to be honest, is a bit stupid, its just a bunch of actors deciding to pat each other on the back, audience is just invited to watch cause whats the point of it if not to showcase it across the globe. Also lets be realistic, if ANYTHING will is saying its okay to slap people who harm you or anyone you love, regardless of what kind of violence it is. Emotional abuse is also real abuse. But he also cried and apologized then, and then also to chris aswell, so you are saying his fans will ignore his words and go hit people? Makes not much sense, they would understand what he did was wrong, they just forgive him for it.?
Also the point of the joke wasn't to say GI jane is lame, is that she is getting balder by the years, that's why he said cant wait for the sequel. Way to missinterpret the joke into a positive?????
Also jada didn't do shit, i know people say she told will to go hit chris, or whatever, but in reality, she did not. And whatever she is upset at him or not, she doesn't owe YOU or any of the public a statement against will. She can choose to do whatever she wants, she doesn't need to go on social media saying will going to therapy. Thats just ridiculous lol.
So yeah, its time for healing is not a bad statement, like holy crap, how do you manage to twiste everything into something you want it to be????

Although Chris Rock is only a few years older than Will Smith, those few years are really a much larger gap back in the 60s and early 70s. Those were times of great changes in culture, the understanding of what makes an adult when you should humble yourself and show responsibility for your actions. I was born in the 50s. I don't know anyone my age that would have reacted in the way Will did. At least not until after the show, and that would have only been a few that might respond violently.
