      How and why would it be staged? It’s basically decimated Will Smith’s career and he’s got a 10 year ban from the Oscars. Chris can be seen visibly in shock on stage afterwards in the following sections. None of this would have happened for a ‘bit’. Do you think the swearing afterwards was staged too? Just none of that makes any sense.

    • @geoffkeil3135
      @geoffkeil3135 Před rokem +11

      @@christinaurso-cale7601 "Chris seen visibly shocked"? "The swearing afterwards was staged"? .... Well, they ARE actors. It IS the Oscars. I'm pretty sure that both of them have acted in a couple of movies before where they fake confrontations, getting hit, looking shocked and swearing ... it's called acting.
      And Will Smith's done comedy. He knows how comedy works. It's not as if in all his decades of movies and TV he hasn't dished jokes at other people ... for they sake of comedy. This isn't the reaction of someone who is a veteran and has watched Chris Rock before. He's not an amateur newbie. That doesn't make sense.
      Regardless of how pissed off he is, he's going on stage to commit assault ... watched by MILLIONS of people globally??? At an event he's nominated later for an award. Once again, he's not an amateur newbie. He isn't THAT dumb. If he was going to have a go at Chris Rock for that joke ... most guys would have bailed up Chris Rock later some time. You know, no millions of witnesses.
      How decimated is his career? Could he do other stuff? Is acting really his main job these days? There's plenty of stuff he does these days and could do. It's not a life ban. Somebody will give him a job later ... Hollywood is like that.
      And let's get real ... an incident like this is worth GOLD for someone who's livelihood is dependent on attention, relevance and a strong social media presence ... ie. every celebrity today. Even the negative stuff is worth something because millions are still going to take his side regardless. Celebrities do controversial stuff all the time to get attention. Did the internet, news, social media, etc go crazy about his "slap" for weeks ...... ummm YES!!! Does he still have loyal followers, etc .... HELL YES!!! Has he got MILLIONS of new empathetic followers ... YES!!! Is this material for yet another interview, podcast and Red Table Talk for millions of likes and views ..... YUP.
      Oh ... and remember what family we're talking about here. The family that has a history of doing messed up stuff for public attention. Kids getting legally emancipated from their Father, "entanglements", disrespecting each other during Red Table talks, etc. They have no problems doing any stunt for internet content.
      Will Smith is not a rookie. For someone who acts fairly well, actually pretends for a living, has done thousands of impromptu interviews, has been in the public eye for decades, is always careful with his words and actions, is a veteran celebrity, always keeps his cool, knows the industry and knows how valuable his image is to his success ...... this incident seems strange. And totally opposite to what an experienced celebrity would do.
      Just doesn't make sense. I don't think we're seeing what's REALLY going on.

    The Will Smith slap was the funniest thing I have ever seen at the Oscars. I hope it becomes an Oscars tradition where somebody is slapped every year.

      It's the Jim and Sam show.
      Unfortunately it's not that good when there isn't a good guest because Sam isn't a funny dude. And although Jim is one of the funniest guys ever, he doesnt really get engaged and start firing unless he's with other comedians.
      You should absolutely listen to it, but only when there's a good guest, like a comedian on the show.

    Thing is…a slap is hardly an ‘angry man’ response! If Smith was genuinely infuriated he’d have balled up his fist and put Chris on the floor…so did Smith realise he was out of order even before unleashing the slap? I think so. He already knew he’d over reacted as he walked to the stage, but then felt committed and that he had to do something aggressive. What he should have done when he knew this, was stop, laugh it off and go back to his seat. The real villain here tho’ was Jada….she sent him to bite like a security hound with a single disapproving glance….just prior to that Smith was laughing too!

    2 years later and I still can't believe Smith did that. He literally lost the respect of millions and screwed his career in about 10 seconds. He will be remembered now, not for his acting or charisma or motivational and inspirational persona but for that slap.

  • @bafflezbiz
    @bafflezbiz Před rokem +16

    Umm... Will Smith knows how to deal with "good". He's been a huge celebrity since his youth and his career and status has grown by leaps and bounds throughout his life. So it wasn't his inability to handle the pressure of the potential Oscar (although I believe that many of them already know before the winner is revealed, so their surprise is just another act). It looks like it was the explosive combination of his tenuous relationship with Jada and his tremendous ego that were ignited by the alcohol in his system when he realized his wife wasn't laughing along with him and the rest of the crowd. So his base caveman brain flipped into "damage control" mode and Chris Rock was a "safe" target. Will Smith got up and put on a show, which happens to be his area of expertise. Don't forget, this isn't the real world. This is Hollywood...

    Jada puts everything about their life on display. If you watch their videos , you’ll quickly understand why he did what he did. Smith knew that he would rather take the disapproval from the world than face Jada’s wrath. I actually feel sorry for him after seeing how he’s been treated. Still does not excuse what he did to Chris Rock. I can’t imagine the humiliation of being assaulted in front of the world. That’s a scar he will carry for the rest of his life.
