  • We've been virtual since August 4th, however, we begin in-person on October 13th! This is a quick video showing how I have it set up to do my absolute best to ensure that my students remain safe.

    That is amazing that the district is doing the right thing and providing a dedicated digital teacher so you don't have to do two jobs for the price of one!

      I’ve been teaching online and F2F at the same time. This week I’ll have 9 in the classroom and the rest online.

      I agree! I teach 8 pre-k students virtually and 4 f2f and it has been a challenge. We are managing though.

    Thank you Mr. Greg! This is making me feel a lot more calm about going back if we have to. Right now my district is online, but we are preparing for Hybrid. I hope you have an awesome first day back! 🌈❤️

    I commend you for all the work and the effort. I am so happy kids can come back. But I have to be honest, my eyes are watery watching this, just to thinking about you and your students not able to be your whole selves. It's better than remote, but NOT EVEN CLOSE to what a full and rich kinder experience should be. I look forward to more from you Mr. Greg as you help us navigate these crazy times. Always looking forward with optimism.

    I feel for you! I teach Kindergarten also, and we went back this week. Worst week of my teaching career. It is so hard!! I have never seen kids bored before, and I have seen that this week. I wish you all the best, and good luck!

    Hope it all goes well! I have been in-class since September 15th. So far all good and no cases at our school. I only have 12 students (8 SK and 4 JK), so we have tables in our room and they sit two per table. Masks are required for all. They have individual bins with loose parts to use. They still circulate through centres, but cleaning is done after every use. Sometimes a centre can only be used once in the morning and once in the afternoon to allow for loose parts to be washed and dried. This week they did some fall paintings and I introduced the light table. Having a small group of 12 students, plus the Early Childhood Educator things have been going smoothly. Students are engaged, having fun, and are adapting well to the changes. For outdoor play each child is allowed to take one or two classroom toys to play with (skipping rope, ball, shovel etc) but they can't share with anyone. Once they bring the toys inside everything gets dumped in the sink for immediate washing. Things have been working really well so far and we all love being in person. Wish you all the best!

    I love your classroom! We have been hybrid at my school since Aug 14th. But since we just finished the end of the first quarter, we will welcome back families who are choosing to no longer be virtual. Happily all of my virtual learners will be in person now! So no more Zoom while teaching in person!! We have been using tables with partitions, to separate students, and we are supposed to have a one-way "track" for moving around the room to minimize contact. We still use our large morning meeting rug with sit spots separated by at least 3 feet. I planned it out, thought about cleaning and sanitizing. BUT!! In the 9 weeks we have been in school, it has been almost impossible to keep the kids apart, leading me to wonder if social distancing in Kinder is even truly possible. We wear masks, wash hands often, use sanitizer, we don't share supplies, and we stay in our rooms for all specials but PE and Music. However, the kids are still constantly drawn to each other, which is normal in a normal year. I've gotten to where I remind, but will not keep repeating myself over and over, since they stop listening to reminders to separate. Question: how will you keep them on their yoga mats at all times? I have several impulsive kids who move without thinking of where their bodies are in space. I am inspired by your yoga mat idea, and am thinking of taking the tables out and trying the mats to more effectively delineate their own space; but I'm wondering how you can keep them there without constantly reminding. What are your thoughts?

  • @monicaspillman5738
    @monicaspillman5738 Před 3 lety +1

    Do you have to move the mats for mopping?

    We have been open for a month and just going to say that a glue sponge does not really meet most of nonporous surface cleaning guidelines at all. Any wet surface needs to be cleaned and dry to kill germs. Glue sticks are better option for the year. And you will wash hands so much this year that it will be even more. I give foaming hand soap tp the kids. Then I have everyone scrub for 20 seconds before rinsing off. Makes washing hands go so faster. Also we gave each child a small sanitizer and bag of tissue for sneezes. Makes it easier than roaming. We also had to get rid of most of our furniture to make the six feet happen or get a plexiglass shield between us and kids. Just my opinion and know all districts view differently. My goal is not to get it in my classroom as shutting down for 2 weeks would be hard. Also I run an air filter all day.

      They have their own glue sponges and they’re sprayed with Listerine to kill the germs.

    Is Kindergarten whole or half day wherever you are? In Indiana all Kindergarten is full day. I just wondered because it seems like a long time for kids to sit in one spot for 7 hours minus recess and bathroom breaks.

    • @gregsmedley

      We have a full day. They are required to stay in 1 spot due to pandemic protocols and contact tracing. They are free to sit, lay down or stand up.
