Hey great work! Love how you took the time to make multiple runs! 👍👍
5-7 minutes
Just a tip, always start in the aggressive mode first as performance drops off even as early as 75% charge.
Good to know, my Tesla has no real performance effect until 25% has no idea the Mach e could drop off so fast Off off 100%
@@evdave528 Oh wow that's interesting, I've seen tests where the performance drops off as soon as 50%
@@evdave528 the performance of the Tesla vehicles start to drop off after about 90%. It isn’t much but the Dragy can measure it.
great work
Looking at the times I’m struggling to see what the modes do , all, the times seem roughly the same no matter what mode your in it’s not as if whisper remapped to front wheel bias , engage 50-50 and undbridal 40-60 rear , maybe there will be a bit of a difference in the performance version, hopefully they can do something like this over air in the future
The pedal percentage appears to change depending on mode no more power
Thanks for the video! I assume this was the standard range battery and not the extended? Do the different modes add fake sound to the speakers?
It’s the Extended range and fake sound on Unbridled automatically turn On
1) What Mach e model is this car? 2) battery version? 3) rear or all wheel drive? All will yield different results
So basically all the modes are the same as comfort mode?
I've seen some 5.3s on other channels but this seems about right and they might have had a higher charge. Expect anywhere from 5.3-5.7 depending on charge it seems. Looks like the car is about a half second slower than Ford advertises on their website.
I’ll rerun at a higher SOC but I thought 75% would be acceptable
Actually its about right on if 5.3-5.5 is possible. Ford states on the website that use the 1-foot rollot standard that Motortrend uses (i believe) along with many others, in which they deduct 0.3sec of the accel time and makes times look better then they are. It's a dumb practice i know.
was that the base rwd model ?
I can't believe some of the comments that say Dave is biased against the Mach e just because he says that the charging curve is terrible and the navigation system is "crap", which it is. I own a Tesla model 3 and there is no way I would ever trade it in on a Mach e. Having been cross country several times with my model 3 I've come to realize how important a really good nav system is in an EV, much more so than in an ICE vehicle. I'm currently planning a trip for this summer or fall in my model 3 to go from southern Arizona to St. John's, Newfoundland and return. It is a trip I'd never even consider doing with a Mach e and its worthless nav system.
I’ve no bias here, like I said in the beginning if it stinks it stinks. I’ll run the same tests on every car, the best tech will shine.
Just use Android Auto
Charging curve sucks. Bummer that. Build fit and finish better than a comparable Tesla, charging network worse--but probably will be at parity within 5 years. I wouldn't reckon never trading it in
Who uses their cars NAV system? Use your cellphone
It’s obvious to me that people who say just use your cell phone map have never driven an EV and surely not a Tesla, who’s nave system is FAR superior and easier to use than any cell phone app.
@@tumsfestival8027 when you have a huge screen and paid for it, you would not be using a tiny phone screen.
The GT with the performance pack is supposed to run 3.5. We’ll see. Thanks for sharing the video. Looks like the different modes is just a sales pitch according to your results.
And the GT can t even reach 200 kph (120 mph) rofl
I think if the battery is at 100% it would get closer to the proposed range .
I expected a large difference in time from whisper to unbridled mode, but didn’t see it. What am I missing? If there’s minimal difference, why have 3 acceleration modes?
The three modes seem to be more for the fake "engine" sounds than power output... LOL
Just take note of where the options switch for the sounds is located...
Ford has clarified that the 3 modes do not change the availability of power to the motors, but rather changes the driving characteristics of the vehicle by tightening up on the steering wheel for a sportier feel in engaged and unbridled, while also remapping the acelerator for am easier response as well as brake remapping for more aggressive regen and stopping power. On whisper all that is toned right down, and the regen is almost non existent on coast.
Anyway, when mashing the accelerator the power provided and the response time feel nearly identical since 100% is still 100%.
@@joecmarques Thanks Joe for the explanation. I would have thought acceleration would have been "throttled down" in whisper.
Because its ford 🗣️ 😂
The pedal gets new threshold for acceleration
Is that voice activated thing when the mph hits “60” part of the car ? If so i need one
No Draggy
Model Y Long Range AWD 0-60 - 4.8 secs. Performance model - 3.5 secs. Looks like either Model Y configuration would beat the Mach-e.
MY SR 5.3s!
Don’t forget the Mach e GT is coming out it is the fast car this one is not to compare to tesla
The Model Y cost more to own!
@@gmv0553 yes that's a statement....the question is then which is better value ..... ID.....
Once people experience 60% three year depreciation on this car they're going to be really butthurt.
What app are you using to track the times?
its a dragy .
Not much difference between the modes, do they do anything else not associated with hard acceleration?
Well, it affects the fake "engine" sounds you can turn on.
All it does is remap the accelerator, so pressing it halfway down gives it less push in Whisper vs Unbridled. But if you mash the accelerator down all the way, it'll give you full power regardless of the drive mode you're in.
A little explanation about what it all means before doing the test so we would know what we are looking at!
I charge car, I find flat straight road, I start Draggy my measuring device, I floor the accelerator and let off when above 60 mph. Dragy measures the acceleration.
Plenty fast enough for me. Faster than almost all the stock Mustangs of the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, if that matters to anyone.
Looking at Motorweek's testing, it's on about par with a 2013 Mustang GT.
Its faster than anyone needs on a street.
Correct
So... two decades ago in terms of performance. It's a shame it shares the name.
You can get an SN95 Mustang 0 to 60 in about the same time with some mods and gears. Although traction is hard to get. I burn rubber until I get to 3rd gear. :)
No doubt battery temperature was a factor. Try another test under similar conditions but reverse the order …
What battery is this? Standard, or extended range?
Extended
What app did you use to chart this?
It’s called Draggy it’s hardware and an app on your phone, available from Amazon
You were at 65-67 before the app recognized you were at 60.
It has a laggy UI I used the Draggy
So, our SR+ takes the chequered flag.
There is another channel that has this car vs the SR+ in a drag and its basically a tie to about 60-70 then the SR pulls away a bit. I've seen some other channels get a 5.3 0-60 so I do think if he had a higher charge it would be a little bit quicker.
@@samclark3370 Cheers, I’ll have a search.
What stuns me is that the battery pack in the SR+ is around half the size as the Mach-e.
@@cbromley562 which means all it needs is an update from Ford to destroy the SR+
@@lrod8692 And so it should.
98.7kWh battery and dual motors in the Ford, as apposed to 55kWh, single motor in the SR+.
Ford seriously need to up their game if they’re to justify their position as a serious ‘Tesla killer’...maybe start with the infotainment, navigation, and efficiency?
And then move onto performance. ;)
@@cbromley562 no one is a “Tesla Killer” but Tesla themselves. That stupid headline needs to be buried and brought back up. It’s like they are wishing for the demise of Tesla only because they have Elon Musk…. Insane
I own a Mach e awd and I’ve got 4.9 on several runs.
Colton what was your state of charge when you did that run I’m just curious
Would this beat a Polestar 2?
Couldn’t tell you, but check Tesla Bjorn’s channels he tests all European cars
I saw some reviews about the F150 lighting which looks like has no limitations 5-sec full power thing) and turtle mode when driving spirited for a few min.
Question Dave ?
Do you think Ford needs to address the fact that their performance model (Mustang) is actually slower and less powerful then a friggin' work truck? I mean i'm sure that soon enough we will see a bunch of people drag racing Mach-Es vs F150Ls, at which point the mid trim f150 with 500hp (or so) will be faster. I don't know about you guys but as a buyer (and owner of a Mustang) that would really piss me off.
Personally i think Ford needs to put same motors & battery/cooling as in the F150 into the Mach-E and start seriously kicking ass (a hyundai Ionic Dual motor, faster tham mustang, come on Ford!), they got a great car in the Mach-E with amazing looks in & out which lots of people love (myself included0, but then they "restrict" it, weird stuff.
It’s too bad you didn’t do the tests at 100% battery when the voltage is higher.
I wonder if that really matters,
I think the battery is just like my screw driver full power till it is done.
@@franklinpatterson3693it matters
One was on my ass and I took off😂
I thought it was supposedly a 3 second 0-60?
I ran it three times. Maybe at 100% I’ll try it at 100 but don’t think so
You're thinking of the performance model.
The Mach E with the standard range battery is 5.2, and the extended range battery is 4.8
I’d rather have that driving footage in the rain for some reason. 🤷🏽♂️
I’m a weirdo.
There is essentially no difference in any mode. Don’t get it. Is there a cooler sound with unbridled mode? Haha
I think the modes are more to tune the throttle at lower percentages of engagement. As well as to tune the turning and suspension. Pretty much any car that has "drive modes" does this. When the pedal is to the floor, it's gonna give you all its got no matter the mode. More of a safety thing if anything.
@@joshuab1707 i agree with you. My toyota rav 4 has sports, eco and (i think) normal mode. Each one throttles differently. But... when i floor it, it seems to just pick.
All the same when floored
Many other testers including motor trend have clocked 0-60 times of 4.8 seconds, which is also the 0-60 times Ford claims. I wonder if Dave’s car needs a update, or perhaps his obvious bias against the Mach e makes him not smash down on the accelerator pedal.
Lot of variables can influence 0-60, like weather, pavement, SOC, incline, whether it is a dead stop or a “rolling start”. Manufacturer times will of course use ideal circumstances that won’t often be repeatable in the wild. When reserving and pre-ordering, the target time advertised was “mid-5 seconds”. This test seems to reflect that original estimate.
It is true that it is not the fastest car in it’s price class. Tesla clearly wins in the acceleration and powertrain efficiency categories; by a large margin.
The draggy numbers don’t lie, I’ll try at a higher state of charge
How is 5.5 slow? Its not a high performance car. The GT version may get those scores down to 4.5 or even 3.5
The lighter base model with the smaller battery and rear wheel drive might be quicker than Dave's car.
I just report what Draggy shows I made no comment either way on its performance
I test drove one and there is a power delivery delay that is non-existant in Teslas. I'm still gonna buy a GT PE tho.
Nope. Not in any mode.
Sloooooooooooooow!
Kinda slow considering it’s an EV and it has the mustang name but more than fast enough for everyday driving.
Must be a dummy switch.
This isnt the gt.
No, premium, AWD, long range, First Edition
@@evdave528 you happy with it?
🤣🤣🤣
dam 2 slow
I feel sorry for these people in America. All they have is electrify America has a charging point. This is why Tesla is so dominant nothing to do with the car.Tesla do good things but also some of the quality is shocking. In Europe, we are less dependent on Tesla and have many options from several different companies, providing charging most of them now are 350 kW rapid chargers. We even have roofs on them Lol and some of the new ones have a coffee shop and food. CCS is the main charging system but ours is different to the US system which looks barbaric at times and very problematic. I can travel the whole of the UK apart from the highlands with out worrying about charging. But to be fair the UK is the size of Texas Lol so it should be better. Anyway yes i understand making a decision on charging, but that doesn't make a car better than another car. It just makes it more practical. For the majority of people that are able to charge from home and maybe occasionally do a road trip. This then gives them a lot more options than just a Tesla which basically looks like a frog paddleboat. 🐸
Yawn! This model Mach E is a slug compared to Model Y in any configuration.
Now, when the Mach E GT comes out, that might be a different story.
@@RandyBelinda I'll take build quality, ease of repair/available parts, and the fact that you look like a complete douche when driving a Tesla over speed🤷
The model Y looks like an egg driving down the road though
Much slower than I thought it would be. This is not worth the money. Even the Tesla 3 is faster.
Sorry Bud. You coulda got a Tesla. You may lose a bundle reselling it.
so slow my God
WOW, other testers got better times than this, I guess your bias against Ford and the Mach E has weighed down the car to give it slower times.
It's more likely he had a lower state of charge in the battery compared to the other videos where they're often in the 80-95% battery range. As the battery goes down, it gives out less power. There's plenty of Tesla videos too where they do similar things at different battery levels, and it gets noticeably slower as the battery charge goes down.
I tested a Mach E AWD extended range model today and achieved similar results as EV Dave. Seems spot on . The other tests are the ones that should be questioned. Still a good car and good choice for many, but the 0-60 is what it is.
@@Geckogold Teslas degrade, but it only becomes really noticeable under 60% or so. And the drop isn't huge. This car at 75% should be doing better if the manufacturer's numbers were accurate.
