      @@Biggles2498 I like watching them 'selling off' on the market, although you don't see it as much as you did. In Barnsley market - which was huge - there were all kinds of sellers, shouting their wares. One chap who sold crockery wore diamante earrings. Another woman who sold towels, always used to sulk if people didn't buy enough stuff! Happy days, you just need to know the price they get to is the real one!

    Thanks Jane, we missed out on the Bonny street market experience last week.... due to the crowds. We diverted our attention and focus into: Cleveleys , St Anne's, Fleetwood and Anchorsholme.....away from the hustle and bustle and into the peace and quiet. Cleveleys was busy, however, at a more chilled pace. We also embraced a few folk tunes from the Fylde Coast Ukulele Network , who were performing in Cleveleys.

    Morning Jane! It'll be such a shame to lose any of Bonny Street Market.Me and my mum used to always go there when in Blackpool. I noticed that at least they were still selling golliwog fridge magnets as I thought that was unacceptable these days!!🤔🤔 I used to have a Sambo metal money box as a kid,where you put a coin in his hand,pressed something and he put it in his mouth. Do you remember them? Also used to save all the labels off jamjars to get my golliwog badges of them playing musical instruments. Innocent non-racist times in my opinion. In fact I still have my 1st doll (who happens to be black) that my dad bought for me when I was about 2. I named her Esmerelda and aside from her missing 1 eye and now wearing a bride and veil (which I made a few years back from a recently divorced friends old wedding dress)..she is in very good condition and obviously very sentimental to me! PS: Bet you did go and buy that lovely summer top!!☀️🌝🌞💞💕

    I am keeping this comment short as Visit Fylde Coast Rabbits are on holiday this week, how this video has appeared is a mystery to me . . there must be a robot in Rabbit Towers!
    I am a proponent of the importance of street markets, whether it be Leather Lane market in London where I bought many of the tools in my workshop and some books also, to town square markets - so many run by successive generations of stall holders, proud of their 'standing' and what their antecedents did. Whether 35 years or 200 years or more, it would be a tragedy if this beloved market were to disappear. So often if a street market is relocated to purpose built locations the renting authority insists on the stallholders conforming to methods of presentation and increased rents that they cannot possibly afford so that the rentors can claw back the monies spent on the whole retail area. In the town nearest to myself I lost the markets stall which had been run for generations selling first class fruit and vegetables. The new location asked for four times the rent and demanded a stall trading set up that they could not afford. The owner, a lovely lady, and her daughters were in tears on the last day, I shall not forget that.
    I would like to see all the presently long derelict boarding houses opposite the Blackpool Central Library bought by a compulory purchase order and flattened - not to make yet another car park but offered to the traders on Bonny Street Market for the same rent and under the same condition of trade requirements as presently obtains.
    I hope their representatives on the Market Trader's are involved now, not when it is too late, in negotiations with the council. A street market is a valuable community asset, more valuable than any town planners can understand. They have to be educated usually, in that the tried and trusted has to be able to mingle with the experimental.
    There are towns up and down the UK with up to 40% of shops vacant with prospective customers travelling to retail parks out of town. I am not a betting chap but I would wager that some towns have been kept viable by the presence of the street market bringing folk to the remaining shops as well as the street traders.
    Aside from my rant [!] I would suggest that anyone enjoying street markets would enjoy not only Bury market but also Skipton Market which runs along the whole of the main town centre street. It is a wonderful experience.

      @kristinejames9812 Před 3 lety +1

      @Erykfreethinker..Wow mon cherie!!! So much for a short missive methinks,but understandably so in my opinion.Every single "Rant" that you have just uttered to all us Bunnies regarding the decisions of certain people (who think that they know better than the average Joe Bloggs on the street/at grass roots) is completely justifiable!! Enschuldigan Eryk mein schnuckeputz..My rant is done and dusted for now! I really hope that the rabbits are now snuggled down in their burrows and not working too hard..but I very much doubt it!! 🐇🐇🐇 Guten abend Mein Liebling! XXX🤗🤪🥰

    • @erykfreethinker7147
      @erykfreethinker7147 Před 3 lety

      @@kristinejames9812 Guten abend my Cherub . . . my words anent brevity were but tongue-in-cheek nonsense! If I was asked to give up my loquascious ways for lent I would be defeated on the first day. [not that I would observe lent anyway] :)
      Oftentimes the people who have an inordinate amount of 'say' are those who value theory over empirical practice and who are totally removed from the sphere in which they are involved. In this specific instance those who are planning the three phases Jane mentions would possibly not visit the market and maybe work in an office somewhere overseas! At least they are preserving a couple of buildings as heritage items although the joke shop will go from what I have seen of the plans. Why could they not have sectioned a strip across the east of the site and kept the heritage buildings, the joke shop and the market together? All of a piece and in keeping with each other? Even I, a bear with little brain can work that possibility out . . . .
      Experimenting with painting book foredges today - sumptuous bronze over a layer of talcum powder . . no idea how well it will go yet. Micro adventure! I hope your shoulder is ok now Megs.
      Evening Greetings . . . Eryk 😎☕🤗🦇xxx
