A great find BTP. It is noteworthy to mention that there are more black stripe 66 series tractors running around that what left the factory in 1976. A lot of guys who have repainted/restored these beasts put the black stripe decal kit on them. They are damn good series of tractors any way you turn it. We've had a black stripe 966, a 1066, and a 1566 in the family throughout the years.
+ih1206 you are right. I was tempted to mention how to tell the different years of 66 series apart and how to tell if it's a real black stripe. Maybe I will in a future video.
bigtractorpower that's a great idea. To be honest with you, as much as I know about IH tractors, I probably don't know all the differences. Great video though. Love the old red iron. I just help my cousins haul home a 5288 with FWA. She's a beast, the biggest we own in our family.
Used a 1066 as our main tractor for years. Pulled on and off the duals for planting and other stuff. Now we mainly use it as a hobby tractor (or something that just does augers)
I love the classic look of the black stripes and would love to have a true 66 series black stripe, but I am sucker for Turbo decals on the white stripe models. 66 series look great regardless, the best looking tractors ever made in my opinion
My uncle had 1066 and 1466 white stripe tractors. He also had a Ford 5000 tractor. We had a JD 40 which was traded for a Ford 3000 and we later bought a JD 2840 a MF 1155.
I ran an early 70' 1466 in the early 90'. Used mainly on a disk and liquid manure spreader. The spreader was 3K gallon (roughly 14 ton loaded). It had been turned up to roughly 200hp (down from 220+). It handled the weight fine ( high 3 through the quarry ). Speed on the road was great ( for the time ). My only complaint was the transmission. I loved IH for power and handling but the transmission was always the problem. ( The 86 series ground the gears (after picking rocks ) and the 66 Series would lock between gears/range ). My only other thought was the weight on the nose. One farm I worked at had a 1086 (IH) and a 4020 (JD). The 4020 rescued the 1086 several times ( but never the other way around ). Ironically the fuel tank of the 20 series is at the nose and the 86 series is at the back.
As a kid, I saw lots of IH tractors of this type (couldn't begin to say what exact models) working in the fields around home, when these tractors were still new.
They are real screamers. I once worked for a farmer who had one pushing 225 HP. We pulled a 28ft IH 490 harrow and a 6 row KMC ripper bedder with it. It was turning around 2800 rpm on the dyno. He ran it that way for years. He later bought a 1566 but it wasn't the tractor that 1466 was.
I'm an old school IH guy from growing up on a farm where my grandpa started out an Allis-Chalmers man, but by the time I was around was running all IH. I know this is "Big" tractor power, but if you ever get a chance to showcase a 504, 706, or 806, I'd love to see it, as I spent thousands of hours on those models. I know they're not big tractor power, but they're a history. :D

Like John Deere found out when they went from the 4320 and 4620 to the 4430 and 4630 the jerk of the power shift puts a jolt to the rear ends they were not prepared for. Same thing for Case and Allis Chalmers. The old story a chain will pull a lot if you don't jerk it!
Brought by memories for. I used to run one when I was 15 years old, and I thougrouly enjoyed it. The tractor was brand new and ran like a dream.
The 66 series were well built tractors built to last a life time. Big power when they were new.

That looks like an international model 20 offset disk. Tough as nails, like the tractor!

That's not enough harrow
He turns tractor to wrong side with this discs..If he turns other side then there is no need to lift the discs
No matter the disc always lift it at the ends unless replacing bearings is your thing
Need to replace them worn out disc😂😂😂
This disk was just being used to break up new ground. Not a big job. Just a few acres.
