- In this episode the guys review Josh Scott's plane, the Tuff Trainer. Josh S. has had this plane at his disposal for about a week, in which he got some practice time in.

Josh Bixler was in the unusual role of support, instead of lead for this review. Josh Scott showed that he learned quite a bit about the plane while he had it in his possession, and demonstrates this while explaining some of the plusses and minus of this aircraft.
The review was followed by Josh S putting the plane into the air, and returning it, for the most part, safely to the ground. A crooked mustache makes for an easy fix. Be sure to subscribe, so you don't miss any of the upcoming episodes.

Being new (very new) to the hobby, I appreciate some videos like this with Josh Scott checking in with his learning process. I love to watch Josh B fly but I can identify with Scott. I assume by the time I posted this comment his flying skills have vastly improved. I really enjoy your videos. Very down to earth and I learn a lot
Good job Josh not bad at all, keep flying every minute you fly its pure learning, experience, flight time=gold!
good job Josh. Glad to see you flying
Why dont you guys have a runway build yet at your field? You could do a video on how to make a runway and what makes it easier to land on and stuffs
Yay! Nice flying Josh!!
seriously, you dudes are great. i love to see such support still in existence SOMEWHERE. once i get flying, i'm in rochester ny, and we should fly somewhere sometime!
glad josh is becoming more than just comic relief in this show! keep it coming, i love it!
And also you guys are the best i improve so much by just watching the videos you guys make!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Josh Scott is a fast learner, soon he will give competition to Josh Bixler in fyling, keep up the good episodes.
@brainanator Sure! The link is in the description.
The Tuff Trainer has changed a hell of a lot from this review. Even when I bought one a year ago, it had a battery hatch on the underside of the nose and ailerons. On mine, I got one dead servo out of the box and the vertical stab was warped (a lean to the right). Mine got lots of tuff lovin'. I liked mine so much as a trainer I recently recommended it to an air cadet group. The motor and servos have changed, the latter for the better, and all the pieces packed properly.
As usual the video is very informative. I would also add for when flying in the wind that make sure your battery is fully charged and you have full power on the motor. Unfortunately with the foam models the wind will throw it around, but when the motor is working at full power you can manage those windy days better. (Lost two planes on less power).
Josh has learned so much :') im so proud of you BUDDY!!!!!
WTG Josh. Your in now. Looks like your going to be the next top gun eh? heheheh. Great stuff guys Always a pleasure to view another well put together video. Thanks.
I have the one with ailerons. Other than the motor mount it is a great plane really. I have a larger 2200mah battery in it, and it helps with making the nose heavier. I have broken the motor mount a few times, and have made a new one. The issue is the firewall is so open that the balsa for the mount glues on the top and bottom, leaving no reinforce in the middle. A bit to fast of a landing and the motor gets too hard of a hit, a broken mount happens. It's not hard to glue it back. Good plane.
liked how young josh was not that noob in this episode :)
Honestly. Who goes out and buys a battery, transmitter, and receiver for a plane they dont know how to fly? Ive always felt trainers should all be RTF like my awesome hobbyzone super cub.
Another great video though guys. Dont let the haters get to you. Keep doin what your doin
@taurustbolt Yes it is!
Nice to see little Josh being more confident and becoming more of a co-host than a joke butt.
Well earned Thumbs up!
Rubber bands on my PT 19 trainer, all those years ago. I can stiil play even tho I grew up!!
Nice to see short Josh fly. I always wondered why tall Josh did all the time. Any way I think it was refreshing.
If Josh still has that model then maybe you should do a comparison with Hobby Kings new Tuff model. Seems to be an even better trainer.
Price point is good too
Cheers
Could you upload a video where you add ailerons to this its seem like the best trainer to me
@brosius85 I agree, but you could say the same thing about any trainer. But they still have there uses. Once i modded out my Super Cub, I felt a lot more comfortable moving towards the T-28. I think planes like this build confidence, and if you trash em, you're not out of a ton of money
GREAT... just let Josh fly more... he is a newbie just like a lot of us!!!!!
"It's love mud" - Josh S.
Harsh edit. Someone busted up laughing. I am guessing Josh B.
do you think you could put floats on this plane? maybe modify the bottom of the plane to put two struts on and make some foam insulation floats?
it's that dang squirrel again making the plane shift around.
(when all else fails, blame it on the squirrells)
Yeah and never blame a cat.
im not really into rc plane but after a few weeks on subscribing and watching your channel. you make me want to try out rc plane. aside from the tuff trainer what else do you recommend for a beginner plane that is cheap and tough. thank you.
What glue do you need to assemble it? Does the stock come with ailerons? Please answer!
Who made yours intro song? I like it a lot, would like to hear at least a demo song from the guy x3
Yes it is 4 channel; throttle, elev, aileron and rudder
haha, I sometimes think that in episodes (although i figure its just anxious energy) but not so much in this episode! :)
Maybe I am blind but I can't seem to find this plane on the website. You mentioned there was a link to it in the video description, but I could not locate that either.
Please assist...!
This plane is not listed on the Hobbyking website. When it is being released?
I don't see a link for the plane in the description
what servo should i put i the wing
You guys have said that it is a 3ch channel plane but hk lists it as a 4 channel one
Did you guys reviewed the older version?
Transmitter on first?
that tuff trainer is basically like a remake of the hobbico flylite
Guys. Can you post the link for this plane @ Hobby King?
2nd plane choice after mastering a champ???
Is there a difference betwen EPO and EPP??
There is no link and I could not find the plane via a search
hey guys, when u make video's like reviews were only josh bixler is flying can u also have josh scottt flying? like a different plane like this one, it kinda sucks to just see jim standing there while bixler fly's :)
talk about funny, I clicked on this video and a commercial for nitroplanes came on lol.....
i think people are better off learning the basics on a flight sim- things like controlling the plane as it comes toward you and correcting bank with ailerons. i think this is a little bit too slow and dosile to be fun for longer than about a week. unless you put ailerons on this and took the dihedral out it would be useless after that
Nice sTUFF guys, thanks!!!
What would you guys recommend for a first rtf plane for $100 or under?
Hobbyzone champ
The silent gamer It actually is! It was my first real plane and I still have it! Great plane. I had a Palm Z 2ch plane before that... Doesn't really count though lol.
I would reccoment the Duet over the champ because it is easier, and also more durable.
RisingStar
true.
The duet is cheaper the the champ by $30. Heck I might buy a duet just to fly in my back yard during winter
+The silent gamer My personal favorite trainer is the Vapor, simply because it is slow enough to fly anywhere. I fly some pretty fast stuff outdoors, but the vapor continues to be a good learning tool for improving my flying because the conquences of crashing are...wait, there are no consequences to crashing a vapor! I would say that it's best to fly it over grass outdoors. They don't get along so well with pavement if you crash after an extended dive.
nice
they have ailerons on the new one
Has anyone had an issue with full throttle forcing a sudden nose dive on this plane? And controls set to neutral having NO left aileron authority? The motor mount has built in down-thrust but WAY too much! I like flying 3/4 to full throttle and that is what I'm teaching my son. But when you go full throttle we have to pull 3/4 up elevator to keep it flying!!
Looks like too light of a plane to enjoy on a windy day...
Josh S is gonna take Bixler DOWN!!
Nice trainer plane for begginers
No its 3 Channel !!! Elev , thr , aileron
Can you guys do a review on the epo 182 cessna with LED lighting if anyone agrees with me like this comment
The new one has ailerons.
OK, I guess.
@MrRCFC Product=16808
@shockhelmet lol
Awww you guys are so cute. I hope you live in a state where you can get legally married.
idProduct = 16808
"man"
love mud....lol
won't play
its a NARF. lol.
That's not how the dihedral effect works.
Tell us
Since I skipped that part anyways...
yep i missed 3:50-4:05 too, please explain
4thGloryMonday
Lift is always perpendicular to the airflow and is a function of velocity: The faster it's going, the greater the lift. If you roll a plane, both wings should be going at the same speed, thus lift for each wing stays the same; it's just the overall lift vector is not pointed straight up. It's this angled lift vector that produces slip which influences wings with dihedral: The raised wing will get more resistance from the sideways airflow and will return to level flight.
Carl Siemens that is exactly the how Josh explained, just in a language everyone could understand.
