  • The original EPO Foam flyer, The Bixler, has a new brother... The Bixler 2!
    Featuring a larger wingspan optional pre-hinged flaps and more! Great for FPV and Advanced FPV, The Bixler 2 has been designed to improve the original and offer different flying option with some of the changes.

    You know why I like YOU the most, Josh's, because although you are in US you are so kind and sometimes talk about metric units too, that is really-really important, for me at least. A lot of websites overseas using only imperial. Thanks, that you respect us here in Europe. Keep going, you are the BEST.

      +Szilard B Actually, we hate English (we call it English, not Imperial) in the US. The trick to working with it, is to divide up your wrenches and sockets into units of 1/32nd. So a 1/2 is really a 16/32 or "E16". Once you convert everything back to divisions of 1/32, then working with them becomes as simple as working with Metric.
      Otherwise, its a serious headache. Which is bigger, a 5/8 or a 17/32nd... who knows off the top of their head without doing mental judo math? But an E20 vs E17, you know immediately.

    My bixler 2 has a Hobbyking D2826-10 1400kv motor with a 40amp ESC and a 11.1v 2200mah set-up. It does everything I need it to do. Fly's fantastic. I put on the wheel kit and do not use the flaps. It does not want to come down. Fantastic. The CG is 76mm from the leading edge, perfect. It's fast becoming my favorite plane. It will handle 8-15mph winds.

    I have flaps working with the 'gear' button on my Hitec Optic5 TX. Plug the flap servos into a Y lead, and RX channel 5, have the left wing servo turned around, so that it looks exactly like the right hand one. Once youre certain you have them both operating in the same direction. Carefully carve out the new servo position, making sure the servo arm will be operating in the same spot as the pre-cut position servo would, trim and glue the left hand foam servo 'blank' into it's original hole.

    My Bixler 1 survived 40+ crashes, total destruction, it simply glued back together each time .... Now i'm into FPV i got the Bixler 2. This plane carries the GoPro2 and FPV gear so easily, it really is the perfect platform for it. I originally bought an Easystar 2 for my FPV, it failed terribly, could hardly carry the weight and would not pull up. Bixler 2 ..... amazing plane fpv or not ..... just brilliant. Although i cannot understand why only the Ailerons were not hinged ...?. 9.5/10

I am not a big fan of quad copters, flying bricks, or flying chickens, but realize others may be. For me, introducing the Bixler2 with a meaningful discussion and a flight demonstration is what I enjoy the most. If you think the wings on the new bixler 2 pose a difficulty problem, you should try bolting on the wings of the precision aerobatics addiction, very difficult unless you have 8 inch fingers with a 1/4 inch diameter. I'll be posting a flying review of it soon. Other than that, it's an incredible aircraft. Love the vids guys keep up the good work.

    My first bix 2 flight was "interesting" to say the least. All control surfaces were balanced, CG balanced, my servos were set to the right direction. When I put it up in the air, I found out 2 things:
    1. My radio's dual rates are pretty high on stock
    2. The bixler's elevator works a little too well
    I see it nosing down just a little, correct with elevator up slightly and the plane launches up like a rocket. Good thing the nose is pretty durable.....

  • @RCShufty
    @RCShufty Před 11 lety

    It does (take off from grass on the stock motor), I've done it a few times. You just need to be careful not to turn in a wing once you get some speed up.

  • @blackbirdboy1
    @blackbirdboy1 Před 11 lety

    Get The AXN & a 2200mah batt, job done. Was new to flying, followed Bruce from XJET channel for the build video, easy! It flys great straight away, no messing about with CG, just put the battery in and fly. 10-15 seconds of throttle, then glide down, throttle & glide. Don't bother with rudder, just use Aileron & Elevetor, Bank & Yank as they say! Get a hot glue gun for the repairs of the hard landings, and thats it. Good luck.

    I have a bixler 2 I recently bought, I run it with a few batteries, but 20C works just fine for me. The ESC it's designed for is a 20A, so I assume that the maximum discharge rate it will ever put on your battery is 20 amps.

  • @TX_High_Prairie
    @TX_High_Prairie Před 10 lety

    I don't normally write reviews, but if you are a beginner like me I highly recommend this plane. I am a high school physics teacher in S. Texas and was wanting to get back into RC flying partly as a demo for my students. In my high school days I spent the better part of $1000 on a balsa plane which flew twice, crashed once - which I spent hours rebuilding. This is absolutely a great trainer plane and is very forgiving in crashes. I cracked my right wing completely half when I hit a fence post and was flying again within an hour with some glue and tape. Having the prop in back is great. Total cost: $200 including shipping. I am on a budget like many of us are.
    Contact me if you want the parts list that I got. Get the flaps. It will slow airspeed. It helps alot when you're learning. I've flown the Bixler 2 in football stadiums without any problems.
    I was flying today in 10-15 mph winds, gusts. Plane was very stable. I recommend getting at least 2 batteries. Each one has about 20 min flight time.

  • @jbw9999
    @jbw9999 Před 12 lety

    I would suggest: 1. The clear skid plate on the bottom cover more area along the longitudinal. 2. Make the motor mount easy to access/remove/reinstall, and be able to fit a 28mm motor. 3. Use a better color combination (green/orange is not).

    Depends on the size of your ESC, on a 25A Turnigy Plush ESC I was using a 2200mAh 3s 25C, but it got a little hot, a 20C would have probably worked better. I've since upgrade to a 45A ESC so it doesnt get warm at all anymore.

  • @kennyFF033
    @kennyFF033 Před 11 lety

    They both make great beginner birds. Bixler 1 would be a little easier to set up. Bixler 2 is real nice. Thats the route I would go... get a 2 and run it stock without flaps. Upgrade the motor and add flaps as you add gear and gain experience. One big tip for a beginner is paint. Paint the wing tips on top only, stripe the bottom side of wing near the center and paint the tail on all surfaces. Use a separate color for each. Practice orientation, and have FUN!

    • @RomiAlmeda
      @RomiAlmeda Před 10 lety

      I'd go with the bixler because it is simply so much more versatile. The zephyr is WAY cool, but all you can do with it is go fast and fly around while the bixler can do fpv, training, fun flying, it is durable, and very modifiable.

    The long screws to hold the wings can be hard to use I used two bike spokes. Slightly sharpen the thread end to guid in well and put a loop in the other end as a twist handle approx 3/8' loop. rods about 4" long. they thread in easily and are easy to have spares etc the loop should end flush in the hole at the bottom of fuselage ie they are just in the hole. These plus an extention for the ailerons (and flaps if used) makes a much easier assembly/ de assembly

    I use low temp hot glue and it works fine on these planes. I believe you need Lo-temp so as not to damage the foam. Lo temp is foam safe hot glue. It is my opinion that hot glue is also best for at home repairs. In the field, I use foam safe gap filling CA glue and I keep a 4 oz bottle of CA accelerator spray to cure the CA glue instantly.

    Very nice. I have a Bixler 1 and it is by far my favorite easy flier. However, I'd say that this platform needs flaps like Josh Scott needs a weight loss program.. The original Bixler is soooo floaty that I have to fly that sucker into the ground just to get it down. What the B2 REALLY needs is spoilers to kill the lift as you are trying to land... which I guess could be done easily enough by simply reversing your flap servos. Pro-tip kids, reverse those flap servos!

    There are couple of things I would improve on these two Bixler planes. First, the decals that came with my Bixler 2 were the wet and slide type. They are awful. They come off so easily when you touch them. The decals on Bixler 1 were much better vinyl type. Second, the wing attachment screws don't seem to fit on either one. I will try to develop a different attachment system. After a crash however, you can fix them easily with Low-temperature hot glue and they are no worse for wear. I

Friends of mine have much less trouble in "short range" (up to 3 km) FPV w/ GF models than they experience with GF enforced models (both flying wings with the same FPV equipment). For me it's sure i'll always prefer GF over CF in flight models.

    You should use flaps to enjoy it fully, I flew mine today and lost one of my wing bolt, the previous flight I also lost a wing bolt cause it can never get screwed in, it flew great without it though. :)

    I was looking on hobbyking and I learned that they just released the Bixler 3! I really want you guys to review it so bad (partly to see Josh Scott's face).

      They named the new one the Bix 3, because HK doesn't sponsor the show anymore. So there's that.

    You guys forgot the 1.1! Hobbyking fixed all those problems without the wingspan in that version. (Bolted on wings, clear canopy, and the same electronics!)

    Those first 30 seconds were the funniest

    During this entire FAA crisis about PFV and "drones" (a drone is a military aircraft and not a model RC), Joshua Scott caused quite the fuss, saying the drones are "picking up babies and delivering them to the wrong mothers". A serious situation played off by Josh Scott (he even said the vacuum robot is spying on him). Flite Test asked people to, not rudely though, to contact your local FAA and voice your opinion but to not be negative towards them. I was going to do so until I saw the other video.
    Anything he says I'd ignore. The "other" Josh and Chad have my full respect.
