Thanks mate. I`ve just bought a Bixler as my first plane to learn with, nice and cheap. Perfect for the job. Look forward to seeing your ideal FPV rig cause that`s where I`m heading eventually.
Nice flight. I am impressed at your navigation - flying that far out without the help of a home indicator on your osd. Lesson to me to stop relying on that so much. good stuff...
Hi. I still flight my BIX3 almost all weekend and publish my videos about what a I learn with him and all can learn too. It's a great RC Airplane to learn, I say that in all my videos. The fact of BIX3 have landing gear is advantage in my opinion to learn to do great landings. And have Flaps... Be welcome and again, thanks very much for this review, best regards!
If you watch Bruce Simpson's videos I think with the mods he made to the AXN, it flies pretty fast. I know he uses it a lot for FPV, although not as far perhaps. Worth a look as it is a fairly stable platform, inexpensive, and highly modifiable. Cheers
how do you like the yagi, is it a DIY project, if so where did you get the plans? what was you flight time. Would you benefit from a larger prop? Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.
I dropped the 2200kv turnigy on mine and it was a rocket. Cut my efficiency down but if your looking for more get up and go its not a bad option. I used the stock prop. I also tried a 1400kv skywalker motor and a 9x7 3 blade and was bordering on tearing my wings off so theres that option too. Ive since moved to delta wings and have no intention of looking back.
Thanks for sharing. For improved speed and effiency, I'd suggest a prop with a larger pitch, say 8x5, 8x6, or even 8x7. You may also want to streamline the motor mount and add a spinner for the same reason. Check out the The EasyStar ll. It's 6X7 folding prop and integrated pod/prop/spinner is a really nice solution. In stock form they glide very well.
I have to second this recommendation. The radian offers (not the pro) alot of very substantial benefits for FPV. The polyhedral wing shape helps keep it stable and smooth. The folding prop allows you to pull the plane up high shut the motor down and stay up for very VERY long flights (My personal record was over 2 hours, was getting dark had to land). The plane has it's flexing issues that are easily solved. Power and porovided ESC have been great for me, however the BEC in the ESC is a little weak if you add any additional bit to the plane.
Great Flight and nice looking girl friend Quinn? Hope you both can do some new videos together I enjoyed this one a lot!!! I'm like you I like to fly and disregard details just as long as I can fly and do quick repairs.learning about xmitters and antenna combos to use that get longest ranges
Interesting!! If your goal is range, the major enemy is power drain, which is a result of motor/prop efficiency and drag.. . Suggest tracking down an efficient powerplant/propeller combination, a more efficient airframe (powered sailplane), and reduce drag as much as possible. At the scale speeds you're flying, anything hanging out in the breeze is a real killer. Also, if you really want to go to the max, the airplane's max range and max endurance occur a different speeds, and with the technology you have, you could be on the road to a real breakthru...
I just test flew my FliteTest Versa wing I built for FPV this morning. I can 100% recommend it. I am flying with an Eflite 370 motor and the plane lifts a 2650 mah 3 cell without even thinking about it. I am sure it can carry way more even with my small motor. It's also nice and fast with crisp controls. If you want more info on it, I will post when i get a few more flights on it as well. I will also have a friend help me clock it with our speed gun.
Is an FX-61 Phantom considered a good plane? Also, is it possible to get a FPV camera with better quality than the one used in this video? Any suggestions?
Yep Bixler is great for some duration and easy FPV flight, but the same reason I switched to a flying wing, more speed. =] Try looking into the X-8 / ZII
Thats cool flying. Would installing a solar cell on the aircraft increase the distance and efficiency? Even just a slight increase will be helpful on a light craft such as this I think.
Can you make a video show casing exactly what you use for FPV? I am new to the FPV and I am not sure what to buy, and it looks like your setup work really well.
Clips the wings. Less lift and weight carrying but more speed. Raise engine nacelle a little higher to allow for bigger prop. These are my engineering recommendations even though I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. :-)
dhdsracer also had a bixler 2 (bigger overall) and also fit 8000mah in the nose of that plane. itd be tough to fit that much battery into the bixler 1 and still have it properly balance out, although with some ingenuity im sure anything is possible haha
Streamlining the motor mount might help a little bit. ;¬) I've learned to fly with the Bixler2, but didn't like the canopy shape. So I replaced it with a simple piece of clear package covering which I just bent around the foam canopy base and glued in place to make a flatter wind shield shape. I'm sure it's slightly more streamlined but have no way to check. But, can you not get more of the FPV gear inside the fuselage?
Also a quick bit of info on propellers. Big flat props have great static thrust, but square props (As in: 7 by 7) are more efficient. Please give that a try for yourself :) Also I am not too sure about this, but I don't know if slow fly props are as efficient as the normal electric thin type. (Like an APC 7x7 electric) Thanks for your great videos and I hope I was able to help you!
the maneuverability advantage is not need in this application but the higher speed and possibly less drag might be. the axn has a smaller canopy area meaning smaller battery without major mods. making it bigger for larger payload (more drag) might negate the speed advantage
I use the Bixler 1.1 and can do a 32km or 19 miles round trip on it. My setup is 50A esc (over kill) Turnigy 2836 1100kv motor 9x6 slow fly prop Zippy 5000mah 3S for electroincs 1000mah3s for video TX I used the 9x3.8 sf prop but found it was not as efficient for long range and only get about 2/3 the distance (I don't know why) but it was better for climbing than the 9x6 (I don't know why). my cruising speed was 45kph and only pulling 7-8 amps but top speed was 85kph.
Clip a couple inches off the tip of each wing and add small depron winglets. That should give you the speed you want without sacrificing payload capacity.
Cut the dihedrals off the wings tips!!! ( leave at least 1.5" of foam from the control surfaces, trust me.) 5500kv motor and four 2 cell batteries stacked in series = scary af pylon racer. I trimmed up all my control surfaces with a hot wire and i was touching 112AS
axn has a slightly higher speed (not much, but a little) but the main thing that is better about it is the maneuverability advantage it has over the bixler.
I have seen the Finwing Penguin do 15 miles. Dont know if this would be cheap enough, but you can fit up to two 5000 mah 4 cells in parallel in this beast. Look for it at Ready Made RC. Hope this helps you out!
You could try a motor with a little higher kv. I use a NTM 2836 2200kv with a 6x4TGS Sport prop for speed. Any chance you could upload the entire flight, it looks awesome
I'm currently using the hobbyking phantom, it can carry 2x 2800 3s zippy lipo's easy. I'm sure if u set it up right u could near carry 7000-8000 mah. Plus it's faster and more stable then the bixler, I have one of those aswel.
Not sure if this comment is actual anymore :D but i thought i could answer, yes, 2.4 GHz radio control will hitch 2.4 GHz video system. I was flying with guy, he had 2.4 GHz video, when i turned my radio on, he yelled like turn it off, fast! Hah.
Have a look at the windrider scout bee 60 inch very efficient platform mine holds 2x3000 ma batteries and an overkill 1.5 watt video and autopilotmega with no trouble
hey i´m using an easystar2 with the 2826 2200kv motor and a 7" for fpv flying... getting plenty of flight time and you can cruise much faster.... give it a try ;) cheers
Watching this video in 2023 and see hwfar you channel has got and it's great
"Thanks for watching, bye" lol. Every video
Every time I hear that outro I think to myself: Perhaps you shouldn't say anything at all lol.
Kinda tickles me when I hear it. It's that whole Napoleon Dynamite thing...
It's that kind of terseness I find valuable in a human.
I find him calming and polite. :)
I cant help but feel most other youtubers over do everything
I always enjoy your Videos.....Bob... Sydney Australia
(My first RC flight 1966)
One of best rc flying channels carrying out flying tests in funny and scientific way
Whoever filmed that at the end Doddid a great job
Thanks mate. I`ve just bought a Bixler as my first plane to learn with, nice and cheap. Perfect for the job.

Nice flight. I am impressed at your navigation - flying that far out without the help of a home indicator on your osd. Lesson to me to stop relying on that so much. good stuff...
"according to MATH"
LOL. Nice gear you've got mate. cant wait to get into fpv myself.. .
It has been 7 years, how are you doing?
The extra pin is for monitoring the voltage of a second battery.
you can increase the gain, or brightness but I just use it as a video splitter.
Wow seven miles. Truly awesome.
You really took some chances with Quinn as a beginner lots of trust in her abilities..Great
Awesome Footage! Could make a commercial for the Bix!...lol
Nice Ant. on the ground station.. :)
thanks for posting this one and not taking 3 hours to explane it all. just what i need to know
oh yeah. Maybe ill try it out and compare. thanks
Nice footage!!

Great videos.
Love your videos man, I wish i could make some of the planes you do, but money is kinda an issue there. Apparently RC is an expensive hobby XD
If you watch Bruce Simpson's videos I think with the mods he made to the AXN, it flies pretty fast. I know he uses it a lot for FPV, although not as far perhaps. Worth a look as it is a fairly stable platform, inexpensive, and highly modifiable.

"...according to math..." hahahaha
Dude, you do all the stuff I wanted to do as a kid......... but now I do it while pushing 40, and life couldn't be better lmfao
how do you like the yagi, is it a DIY project, if so where did you get the plans?
what was you flight time. Would you benefit from a larger prop?
Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.
"according to math".... lost my shit

I have an easystar 2, it hasn't even got 1 hour's flight time because of weather xD but i absolutly love plus it's easy to repair after a crash :P
what video editing software do you use? i love your videos XD your slowmo ones are great
I have to second this recommendation. The radian offers (not the pro) alot of very substantial benefits for FPV. The polyhedral wing shape helps keep it stable and smooth. The one thing you may not like however is the plane is NOT a speed demon at all.
Nice video. Thanks.

I just test flew my FliteTest Versa wing I built for FPV this morning. I can 100% recommend it.

Nice vid mate :-)
Hi rctest...what battery I should buy to get solid 30min flying time with bix3 stock motor??? 4s panasonic li ion or lipo?
Is an FX-61 Phantom considered a good plane? Also, is it possible to get a FPV camera with better quality than the one used in this video? Any suggestions?
I fly an FX61 with a cyclops storm. Flies very well and on a 4000mah i get about 40mins.
Yes, 12dbi
Yep Bixler is great for some duration and easy FPV flight, but the same reason I switched to a flying wing, more speed. =] Try looking into the X-8 / ZII
were s quinn?
Nice job
Hey rctestflight keep up the good work you're doing could you please inform me what type of fpv system you have onboard for the plane thanks
Thats cool flying. Would installing a solar cell on the aircraft increase the distance and efficiency? Even just a slight increase will be helpful on a light craft such as this I think.
Nice Video thumps up

simply mount as much crap internlly and it will be aerodynamic
Hahaha, I like it.
lol.."even though I dont know wth im doing"...lol
No the problem is the airframe. In order to push that plane faster you would need more power and that would lead to shorter flights
can i have a complete list of all the equipment ? i want the ssme setup. thanks
thanks for watching bye.
Great channel man, what are you running in the order of UHF?
dhdsracer also had a bixler 2 (bigger overall) and also fit 8000mah in the nose of that plane. itd be tough to fit that much battery into the bixler 1 and still have it properly balance out, although with some ingenuity im sure anything is possible haha
That extended wing on one side of the bicker looks goofy, I like your set up tho.
Streamlining the motor mount might help a little bit. ;¬)

I Also found the Tower Pro Propellers to be A LOT more efficient than the Hobbyking turnigy, SF and GWS props
What mods did you do to the motor mount to make it work with the 8in prop?
Thanks for watchingbye
what transmitter were you using and did you enhance it's range in any way?
Also a quick bit of info on propellers.
Big flat props have great static thrust, but square props (As in: 7 by 7) are more efficient. Please give that a try for yourself :)

the bigger the prop the more efficient it is. I could probably fly for that long too without any fpv gear.

the axn has a smaller canopy area meaning smaller battery without major mods. making it bigger for larger payload (more drag) might negate the speed advantage
very cool
Hi what kind of camera are you using and where can I find it?
Hey dude where did you get The yagi antenna ?
I use the Bixler 1.1 and can do a 32km or 19 miles round trip on it.
My setup is
50A esc (over kill)
Turnigy 2836 1100kv motor
9x6 slow fly prop
Zippy 5000mah 3S for electroincs
1000mah3s for video TX
I used the 9x3.8 sf prop but found it was not as efficient for long range and only get about 2/3 the distance (I don't know why) but it was better for climbing than the 9x6 (I don't know why).
my cruising speed was 45kph and only pulling 7-8 amps but top speed was 85kph.
Ritewing zephyr dude!
Clip a couple inches off the tip of each wing and add small depron winglets. That should give you the speed you want without sacrificing payload capacity.

Is that a Yagi antenna on the ground station? Impressive flight by the way.
what kind of antenna did you use ?
Be interested to know what transmitter/receiver setup you are using, cheers
Have you though of using a finwing penguin from readymade rc? I run one and its a great plane
whats the ground antenna called and where can I find one?
you obviously have no problem with FPV or Radio range, hope a suitable Platform is found soon. Good Luck will watch with interest.
What type of radio are you using?
axn has a slightly higher speed (not much, but a little) but the main thing that is better about it is the maneuverability advantage it has over the bixler.
where did you get that yagi? looks nice
pretty much just like a bigger bixler
I have seen the Finwing Penguin do 15 miles. Dont know if this would be cheap enough, but you can fit up to two 5000 mah 4 cells in parallel in this beast.
Look for it at Ready Made RC.
Hope this helps you out!
You should use circular polarized antenna (helix) at base.
You could try a motor with a little higher kv. I use a NTM 2836 2200kv with a 6x4TGS Sport prop for speed. Any chance you could upload the entire flight, it looks awesome
Why is it too slow ? i like flying slow with fpv gear :)
tried a higher kv motor? I just assemble bixler v1.1 with a 2200 kv 40a esc...waiting for a good day to maiden
What did you for long range trasmitter?
Ok thanks! (I noticed that you have one Plug free on OSD, you should plug DL Rx RSSI, just in case)
Bye
I'm currently using the hobbyking phantom, it can carry 2x 2800 3s zippy lipo's easy. I'm sure if u set it up right u could near carry 7000-8000 mah. Plus it's faster and more stable then the bixler, I have one of those aswel.
Where did you buy that yagi antenna sir?
What RC system for the plane are you using?
Which UHF system are you using and why? Just starting to look at UHF and need one that is pretty much "plug and play".
Does the 2.4ghz video equipment interfere with your 2.4ghz airplane rx/tx?
Not sure if this comment is actual anymore :D but i thought i could answer, yes, 2.4 GHz radio control will hitch 2.4 GHz video system. I was flying with guy, he had 2.4 GHz video, when i turned my radio on, he yelled like turn it off, fast! Hah.
you should go with a knurrus maximus platform!
Have a look at the windrider scout bee 60 inch very efficient platform mine holds 2x3000 ma batteries and an overkill 1.5 watt video and autopilotmega with no trouble
whats you favorite plane for fpv
The problem isnt the easy star, its your prop/motor/battery combination
Have you ever tried flying out as far as possible, land and have a friend replace the battery for the return flight?
hey
i´m using an easystar2 with the 2826 2200kv motor and a 7" for fpv flying...
getting plenty of flight time and you can cruise much faster.... give it a try ;)
cheers
you used dragon link uhf?
How to make the set up electronics of cargo condor?
cuz yolo
Where do I get the parts?
Nice location, where is it?
I dont like the small wings because they cant handle much wind at all.
