- Payment for Ecosystem Services is a new economic and practical approach to environment protection. It's based on the recognition that forests and other ecosystems provide us ALL with services that are essential; and the recognition that the role of those groups of people that live and work around these ecosystems is crucial in the maintenance of the health of these places and it should be recognized, protected, regulated and rewarded.

Whatever it takes to contribute to hold on to or reinvent resources that provide us with our comfortable daily lives, that we are so used to, we owe it to each other, and to the planet to contribute any way we can. But we also owe it to each other to become educated about such things, as you are.
Ecosystem services is a wonderful concept, I’d never heard of it before. Hopefully it will be very popular and encourage people to value the natural environment more. Great video btw!!
PES? I must admit, that I was very much unaware of the existence of these programs until I watched your video. Thank you for bringing this information to the attention of your subscribers. It's just another reason why I enjoy watching your channel.
So glad to hear.
Reminds me of how Ikea has been destroying ancient forests in my country, Romania for many years now. Luckily, we have two things going for us: King Charles owning much land in historic Transylvania and Romania having Europe's highest brown bear population. Ikea has destroyed at least half of our forests since 2007. Sadly, almost nothing stands in their way.
Cool vid. "the cathedrals of carbon sequestration". I like that. I wonder how good a job were doing in schools to teach kids about how important forests are? I certainly don't recall any passionate lectures about them. Maybe it was mentioned here or there that trees "release oxygen".
P.s.

Perhaps a video explaining *Forest Succession* from soil organisms to photosynthesis to nitrogen fixation ...
Longleaf pine densely covered more than half of the eastern pre-colonial North America. Now, only one to three percent of the orginal forest remains, some in hard wood hammocks. Slash pine is cultivated by industry nowadays.
Btw, pine trees purposely set fire to the ecosystem to survive so other plants don't. Nature isn't exactly pastoral and sublime.
Excellent, grazie! Children need to learn this stuff from a young age.
Bello
Molto bello!
Altrettanto auguri
It is absolutely beautiful place and I and my wife are going to visit Aosta Valley this summer hopefully
bravo
Excellent Mary Jane! Your love of your subject came through loud and clear. My short answer to your question is "yes". But the long answer is "it depends". I would not agree to write a blank check, and I would want some sort of monitoring and reporting to know that whatever money we spent to save the Amazon was getting us what we paid for.
How feasible would it be for you to do a similar video about the oceans? And the deserts? And swamps? Etc, etc........
I'm much more passionate and knowledgeable about forests because I grew up around them! :)

2.113.000.000.000 USD was spent for military interests in 2021 (Statista)
That’s a lot. Could we save our planetary lunges with it? Better than without, right?
But you are Jennifer Connelly!
Yes, I would pay a fee every year for that but then who is going to make sure that some 'Bolsonaro' will be re-elected...
There is always a ‘Bolsonaro’…
