For those wondering how Vinny moves ludicrously fast in some of these, that's because most DOS games were programmed to base the speed they ran at on that of the computer's processor, with no upper limit.
I guess the sweatshop workers who made the DOS Mega Man games predicted the future, because they were unplayably fast on computers even at the time of release.
So fun fact about Human Killing Machine. The creators pitched that to Capcom to be the official sequel to Street Fighter. I'm dead fucking serious.
Also: fun fact. If I remember correctly, the final boss of the game is fucked so hard all it consists of is broken sprites.
Good ol Tiertex. They never made a good game. (Except Paperboy on the SEGA Master System)
They also made a DOS port of street fighter that, while better, was still completely unplayable without a gun aimed at your head.

Wait, there was a DOS version of Human Killing Machine? Why!?
For those unaware, Human Killing Machine was an unofficial sequel to Street Fighter made by Tiertex, who also ported Street Fighter to various home computer systems at the time. Probably the best thing about it is the final boss, who only has a total of six sprites due to how he's coded; All of a character's frames of animation have to fit on a single Atari ST screen's dimensions, so because of how large the final boss is he only has six frames total.
Not that the others have any good animations mind you, but his case is particularly awful due to how he actually looks like an almost-competent character design.

In certain ports of HKM, the final boss' sprites aren't even included in the game. You fight a giant mass of jumbled pixels from another character's sprites.
Ooh, I didn't know that one! That's something I've definitely gotta check out at some point.
I remember reading that was from a faulty cracked version of the game. Though the last boss did have almost NO frames of animation, due to the weird way the game was programmed, all the sprites for a character had to fit on the screen at once.... and the last boss's sprites are gigantic. Ashens did a great video about it.
Oh yeah, Ashens' review is one of my favourite videos. It's how I learned of the game in the first place.

Fun fact: The guys behind Timeslaughter also made NESticle, the first properly playable NES emulator that was a foundation for majority of modern ones, from FCEUX to Nestopia. Basically, they're fathers of emulation scene as we know it.

Human Killing Machine was supposed to be the sequel to Street Fighter.
Let that sink in.
Technically, it was only PITCHED to be a sequel. Capcom never intended for it to be so, and thus, it never was.
This. Tiertex was licensed to port Street Fighter 1 to PC from Capcom, the port was horrible however, but Tiertex knew SF would be a goldmine and they wanted in so they pitched the idea of a sequel themselves.... Capcom refused, so Tiertex just released Human Killing Machine as their own fighting game while Capcom went on to make an actual sequel to Street Fighter.

It's amazing how much you could steal from big studios back then; you didn't even have to go out of genre. Basically every sound from Franko with the exception of the mouth-made swish sounds and *FUCK OFF* is from Final Fight.
