I love how the dev went through the effort of programming a "don't hit two keys at the same time" message instead of just fixing the collision bugs.
It was probably made in some shitty prefabricated game creator he downloaded off the internet for free, so I don't think he had any programming knowledge beyond just deleting stuff.
@@sorrynothing5602 I suspect the 2d games in this collection (as well as those that appeared in Mario&Sonic Fan games Vinny streamed) were made with a program called Klik&Play, which was later upgraded into The Games Factory, then Multimedia Fusion 2 and is currently known as Clickteam Fusion 2.5, which is supposed to have a new version on the way.
As someone who uses Clickteam Fusion, i can tell a lot of the games you saw in this video had similiar colision issues, and were made by people who were newbies to the program, that's because of two things:
Firstly, some of the animated sprites didn't have proper hitboxes. Either the configuration of these sprites was set to detect what the *image itself* colided with, or the size of the hitbox kept changing because each frame had different sizes. This can easily be fixed by making all the frames have the correct size, configuring the object to use the image *size* as an hitbox or by simply making another object which is an invisible hitbox and then attaching the animated object to it.
Secondly, these objects use default movementation settings that the software itself comes with. Unfortunately, this issue was a lot harder to fix back in the day (presumably when these games were created), in order to have an actually good movementation system, you'd have to program it yourself with the software's more complex "Ifs" and "Dos" but nowadays there are extensions which provide simpler solutions (although programming it yourself can still have it's advantages).
This software is powerful enough for the user to make some really good games, but if one doesn't get past newbie problems like the ones presented (which is something that goes for any program, really) then one is not going to get very far.
I mean it's the same dev as "Write down your own score"
Why fix problems when you can make it sound like it's the player's fault
@@sorrynothing5602 Most of the games shown here were made with Klik & Play, an early game creator program that may have been distributed by Maxis for a time. almost all of the games created with it were outright trash, but there is at least one, called Destruction Carnival, that's actually pretty good.

It kills me how Cosmi went from publishing Forbidden Forest and Beyond Forbidden Forest - Two early horror games and a good benchmark for what sort of atmosphere a dedicated programmer could attain with the C64's graphics hardware - to this. As I was watching footage of the game BoaBite 3D, I kept thinking to myself: "wow, the voices have a familiar accent to them. Are the creators of this game Finnish?" As it turns out, I was right! The developer is in fact Finnish, as was his company, Wah-Software. They made a whopping total of *four* games in the late 90s before shutting down.
The two brothers who founded Wah-Software would later go on to form RedLynx, the company currently developing South Park: Phone Destroyer.

My dad used to work in the US back then, and he brought me this exact 300 games packed CD-rom from Fry's. I thought it was the coolest shit ever because it's from America.
Vinesauce is genuinely the only thing that can consistently make me laugh out loud.
Oh my god. Unless I'm greatly mistaken, most of those games were coded in Visual Basic. That piece of garbage can barely execute a query function without crashing, let alone proper "games." I don't know whether to be horrified or impressed.
Quite a few were from Clickteam's old creator, either Klik and Play or The Games Factory, most likely. It was a very popular but pretty pathetic game creator in the earlier Internet.

I have never heard of this "Cosmi 300" you were playing so I had no Idea it was even on this. But I remember playing RATS as a kid.
