- Gittler Bass Demo. 4 string, 5 string and Fretless. Because of the success of my previous Gittler Video's I was invited by Gittler Instruments to come to the NAMM show and show off the guitars. I had a great time and the new basses are amazing. I took a week off from work to do this and it was a total blast. Check out the basses. They have a super solid feel and sound great.
To be clear, I'm not a paid endorser for Gittler, I'm just a HUGE fan of high tech guitars.

You're playing with the Midi cable plugged in, and not the 1/4", so what we're hearing is just a synthesizer. What does the bass actually sound like?
Does the instrument itself actually output MIDI or does it just output polyphonically to a box that then converts to MIDI? If the latter then we might be hearing the real instrument.
Does it matter?
There's a breakout box for the magnetic pickups which has a 1/4" out

@@chadleycutsllc137 sadly not, an almost $10k bass isn’t the easiest thing to save for, that’s a long term goal.
I kind of think it's cool, but the $8750 price tag [cough cough!] is hard to get past. I can buy a lot of bass gear for that much money including a car to haul it in. Plus... I'd love to hear how it sounds being played with other musicians instead of somebody going through their catalog of licks. How does this bass compare and compete with drums, guitars, keys, etc. for sonic territory in the mix? I can't really hear much from this recording and all the demos I've seen and heard, so far, have all been recorded on smart phones. So it's hard to tell what you're getting for $8750. I hope this makes sense.
What you're getting for$8750 is screwed... It sounds awful. I don't understand how these companies operate. They have a product that produces music, but yet they allow something like this to be put out there???

It looks as though they are hooked up with the midi out and you are not using the audio out, so is the sound we are hearing from a synth?
Amazing! About 20 years ago I spoke with Gittler himself asking him about building a bass guitar. He refused telling me - "Leave it, a bass is a different animal." Imwonder what he would have said now...

Part of the fun playing a bass is your body can feel the vibration/resonance. How about this one?
Well, actually titanium vibrates way better then wood (natural polymer). Polymers are known for their good dampening abilities, while resonance travels better in metals.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but if that's true, why does a regular wooden violin sound better than an aluminum one?
Brent Breault aluminum has different resonance than titanium. I bet a titanium violin would sound heavenly.
@@brentbreault7606because it's what you think a violin sounds like. A metal violin is likely louder but depending on the way one could be made, the actual acoustic sound of it could be unpleasant if certain frequencies that our ears don't like are more resonant.
The guys argument was that the metal bass would vibrate more, which it likely does. More vibration doesn't mean it will sound better because of that.

I'm still trying to figure out how $20 worth of tubing and two hours with a tig welder adds up to a $9,000 instrument. I guarantee there's a jig that holds everything in exactly the right spot for perfect, repeatable assembly. One guy could probably crank out twenty of these in a day without breaking a sweat. Frankly, even $900 seems excessive for what you get.
You have to account for the overhead and risk of running a company knowing that bob gomez is potentially gonna be your only customer for multiple months after you launch a model
@@Danman350 That's their problem, it doesn't make the product worth more money. They failed to do market research to determine if they could launch a model profitably. That would be like me opening a restaurant and charging $50 for a burger to make up for the risk of having no customers for a few months. That isn't how it works.

Ok but how do you tune it?
It has the same system as any other headless bass/guitar like Steinberger/Strandberg... Most headless basses and guitars use double ball strings, one attached to the neck and the other on the tuners, they were very popular in the 80s but now they have resurfaced. You tune it on the back of the bass/guitar, some people say it tunes very accurately and doesn't detune...

The website made my phone get 3 viruses, this was really unappreciated.
Look I haven't been to the website but I can almost guarantee that that's not true. What benefit does a guitar company selling $8,000 guitars have giving you a virus. And that's completely ignoring the fact that phones really can't get viruses. Malware and adware maybe but you have to install those yourself.

Seems like the most remarkable, "revolutionary" thing about it is what it looks like. It's still a bass and still plays & sounds like one. Other than that it's no better, or even different, than any other bass guitar of any make, model or price. Just its looks.
Unusual-looking isn't worth several grand when you have to work for it.
Polyphonic output, light weight and physically indestructable. More than looks.
Apparently holds its tuning for weeks.

Sounds like someone decided that resonance was far too musical and the actual ringing of notes was not required. They prioritized fret ringing and adding shit to make it even playable. "All you need is this accessory that hangs on your belt, no biggie, and when you have that you can get this amaaaazing sound. (garbage can lids crashing together)

The guitar sounded great, the bass sounded god awful, no low end and it sounds like a fretless? but its not a fretless....
