1: find a learning buddy 2: take advantage of your good days 3: quantify your progress 4: don't get comfortable 5: make your weaknesses you strength 6: work on your weaknesses
There is. You just gotta look. Cruise the city for a couple of days on your board at different times to see if there is anyone. I thought I was a loner but then there was this small hill where everyone went
No. Haha, I think all the skatepark got kicked out or something cause there are two places where I saw some skate, but they aren't there anymore. Guess I gotta keep searching.
If Chris Chann wins batb he will officially. And I mean OFFICIALLY be the best flat ground skater ever. Nobody has ever done 360 dolphin flip, only double dolphin flips. So good luck man. My prayers go out to u.
I've been skating for 10 years now, and throughout that entire time, I never bothered to learn switch because it was way too hard. So don't make that same mistake people. If you're starting now, learn switch while you are learning regular. It's like a brick wall to me and I still have pretty big doubts that I'll ever learn switch tricks. It sucks, so practice your switch early!
verry good point !!!!! i have the same wall. i got an alright amount of switch tricks but i cant switch or nollie flip but can switch n nollie tre n varial. idk its weird
Corey Hicks That's great! But for me, skating switch is like a whole other world. Taking the time to learn it is extremely tedious, and I'd probably lose my mind in the process lol. So I envy you.

The one that works best for me is setting "lives" or attempt numbers for myself.. it helps me persevere.. I also try and do things like telling myself "I have to land it 3 times before going inside again.." it really helps out!
The amount of motivation Chris gives me is insane. In the UK it's so hard to progress because of shitty weather and sketchy spots. I just wanna say thank you so much for being such an inspiration dude, much love bro.
Seann Bhuii I skate up in Scotland, the weather sucks so it's hard to skate up here and our roads are either really good or really, really bad. Though we have a skate park in my town so it's pretty good and since hardly anyone skates here it's nearly always empty.
Jamie Jack I skate up in Scotland too bro and there are NO spots where I live but livingston skatepark is pretty awesome and I know everyone there so its pretty great.
Kyle Broadfoot Yeah, I know what you mean, man. Me and a couple of my friends have found some alright places, there's a skate park where I live too, it's pretty good, I know some of the folk there. There's also Transgression in Edinburgh which is really awesome!
Dudes, me too. I was about to quit just because I can't land shove its and 180s for about 9 fucking months. Then just this last wednesday i landed it. When you're about to quit that is when miracle happens.
why does it take people that long to learn something I mean ya it is a hard trick to learn but I have only been skating for two years and I learned how to kick flip in the first three months of skating
Jonathon Fregoso It just depends on certain people's learning process. Some people pick up skating like it's nothing. On the other hand, some aren't that lucky. I learned to kickflip in 1 week after picking up my board. I tried night and day till i got it. Like Chris Chann says, it's all about repetition.
Jonathon Fregoso me too i used to skate as a little kid but starting last year in summer i started skating again and learned kickflips in a month and a half
You're one of the most inspirational people I have ever heard, I was on the fence today, a weird point in my life, I almost gave up skating completely, but I seen your channel then this video. Thank you Chris, this meant more to me then you can imagine.
My friends learned how to Ollie in a week and really high ollies but I'm still learning don't stop even if your slow skateboarding is one thing everyone can do
Yo Chris, if you and Nick Holt don't play against each other in batb can you please please please play against him and get it on vid. THAT WOULD BE AMAZING! ! ! every one thumbs up for that.
yall should not forget luan, he got flatground tricks on lock like no one. shane put his self on pressure, thats why he fucks up street league but at least he got a massiv baggage of tricks include bigger spins and that sw tre double and sw big spin double flip, mike mo is really good and has some fucked up dork aound tricks no one think about same with late flip variations and if you take a look to sewa.. he can possibly do any kickflip in double variation like tre double 540 double hard double big double flip oh and he got hardflip fs revert wich is very unique.. chris chann might have all those tricks and nick holt too so its getting really tricky in the finals whoever got in it
Thank you for this video. I have it saved under my favorites so I can watch whenever I start having trouble with progressing. I broke my fibula months ago and so I'm relearning my tricks and I find that this video makes me feel 10 times better every time I try to go out and learn my tricks back. I greatly appreciate it.👊🏽
when I first started skateing me and my friend were like 12. he decided to learn kickflip first and I was goin to learn heelflip. it took us like a year straight of riding around Ollie up curbs every day then we finaly got it then we got confident and started learning pretty quick. skate boarding is all about confidence and and commitment. you can do any trick you want its just a matter of when you learn you it and how bad you want it
After getting back on my board from not skating for years. I have finally landed my kickflips after 3-4 month. People. Listen to what he says and use his advice.
i definitely agree with all those... its all logic in the end... ive actually been doing the whole working on my weaknesses thing and i hope it works out in the end because i get sooo frustrated sometimes...
i think you are spot on when you talked about action effect, once you learn something it really becomes more about focusing on rolling away rather than the thought process behind learning it in the first place. i always come to this video to remind myself about the processes i use when learning rather than just bummin about having fun haha.
hey chris this video helped me a lot with my skating especially the part about not comparing ur self to others just real inspiring man and thanks for keeping me interested in skating with ur vids dude big thumbs up :)
try the ALL FOUR method. Landing a trick in all stances. nollie, fakie, regular, switch. Like learn kickflips. then fakie flips. Then nollie kickflips, and finally switch flips. If one goes for the ALL Four i could see than helping one learn tricks. The all four will get huge soon. we'll be saying he All FOUR'd heelfipped the shit out of that 6 stair. lol
You seriously need to post more videos! I enjoy them so much bro and I hate waiting for them to come out please post a lot more?! XD your vids are just bangin' !
Such an inspiration man I just want say thanks for all the awesome videos and tips your by far my favorite skater and most inspirational to learn new tricks and continue skating thanks! 👍
Just got my kickflips back after like 2 years without being able to do them. Since then i've learned a load of stuff Nollie and Switch cos i gave up with the regular stuff but it's coming back :D So happy!
This video i watched back in may 2014 and it has been about a year and my bestfriend started skating with and both me and him can do all the basic tricks varial flips back/front side flips, switch flips. you really are a good guy and skater, chris
Chris you're just great. Such a positive and encouragingly person, youre videos help me getting my motivation over and over again! Thanks for your all the things you do! Im sitting in germany, and its pretty hard here to find some nice spots like you have over there without having to pay for it, so sometimes its hard to progress finding the motivation. And there it is! Thank you.
The tips were really helpful, keep up the good work! I know I'm going to be a good skater sometime, even though I live in a country where it's almost always raining. The key to success is to not give up and just practice, practice, practice! Get the basics really done - especially the ollie, which I'm actually working on, getting that super good helps you make a solid foundation for all of your future tricks and getting you up to that advanced level like he said
This was super applicable to other parts of life. I'm so glad you make videos. Just applied some things to my work (IT auditing for one). Can't wait to see what you make next dude.
The game you're talking about reminds me of Runescape. I loved that game so much until the updates a couple of years ago. I player that all day everyday until those updates haha
Aww man good vid. After being a completely lefty in skateboarding, I now find that sometimes I feel stuck when doing something with my left side on rollerblades. I've been working on my sucky left crossovers and stops. Sometimes it gets repetitive and irritating. Just like when I first started skateboarding. My number one tip no matter what you do for fun or to be active, is to never give up. Even if you bust your butt in front of people or get hurt, just take a break, then grab a drink and cool off. Then, later, when the wether is right, you're clam and dressed for success, take your headphones and shove them on and blast some music while focusing on your goal. When I was first learning to kick flip I did the same thing I did when first learning to do crossovers, I did them early morn and late night when it was quiet and I could focus better and I was hidden so it gave me confidence to push further. I now do new stuff in the bright of day in front of anyone. Sometimes weird methods like that help too.
I used tip 1 all the time until I moved I don't have a skate bud no more so I skate alone most of the time just in empty lots cause there is not parks nor good spots but flat ground has grown on me I've learned so much just because that's all I can skate. If you don't have a skate bro just use music, also really motivational.
Thanks so much! This helps a LOT! My best friend just recently moved away and we used to skate together everyday and learn off of each other, and now that he's gone its way harder to learn. But with these tips I will be learning new tricks so much faster, THANK YOU!
This video just motivated me to not give up on skatebaording, people kept telling me to move to another trick cause you keep doing the same trick all over again, but they dont see that i havent master it good. So now ima take it easy and follow ur tips thanks man
Man you got the PMA(positive mental attitude)!!! You should be a motivational speaker. Seriously!!! Skating has come a long way and progressed so far. Like the tips at the end of the video. Man one thing I wish I did back in the late 80's early 90's when I tricked a lot was learning switch more. Great advice!!!
The amount of judgement at skateparks is unreal. Its almost like parks are only for novice skaters when really thats where noobs NEED to be to learn and get good.
I saw your'e Channel for the first time last week at this moment you are one of my favourite CZcamsr! You motivate me to rebegin Skateboarding Yesterday I land my first Kickflip since 3,5 Years!
Thanks a lot Chris! Very inspirational! I'm back at at 49 yrs old-Can't do any tricks yet(can sorta do a shove-it)but I am stoked to just keep progressing and having fun! Cheers man!
Make sure you know what you're doing wrong. For example I never got my left foot of the ground. So I literally popped my board and jumped. Then it technically only took me a day to learn how to ollie
+ysfzlfi I swear I practiced how to Ollie just like once a week at in total there was six weeks and I can't believe I learned them in a small ass time probably cus I got skateboarding made simple 1 idk
Chris I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I bought my first board around 3 months ago, and you wouldn't know how frustrated I am with being unable to ollie. Sometimes I think I'll never be able to do it, and I expected that I would learn it really fast like a ton of people said they did. You wouldn't know how happy it made me, when you said that it took you a year to learn to ollie. You're my favorite skater, and because you said that I realized that even if it's taken me a long time, if I stick to it I could have a chance to be as good as you are. Your videos are fucking dope, dude keep it on!
dont listen to this guy. its simple! JUST GO OUT AND SKATE, DOESNT MATTER IF ITS A BAD DAY AND YOUR NOT LANDING ANY TRICKS, KEEP SKATING. ALWAYS!! DONT STOP AND YOU WILL MENTALLY GET USED TO BAD AND GOOD DAYS SO IN LONG TERM YOU WILL NEVER STOP SKATING, AND FOR TRICKS. GOTTA TRY THEM NON STOP, DEDICATE A HOLE DAY FOR 1 TRICK, DO IT ALL THE TIME. AND IT WILL STICK
christopherchann lol fletching cooking and hunter? Ha I used to play skate and think every time I win a game I got xp. Motivated me to keep skating and eventually grew out of rs. Cheers.
I love the making weaknesses your strengths. I can't do any shuv tricks and whenever hit my Shin A LOT. So that got to try them again and now I can do shuv tricks.
You're totally talking about Runescape again. Haha, I still play but I learned to manage my time spent (I went way overboard in junior high and high school). This video is fantastic, man. I love the idea of learning to learn because it's so important and relevant. I really appreciate your channel.
So inspirational man! Went to try tre flips after this video, and got 4 tre's in a row! Thank you so much,You're one of the most creative skaters out there man!
but when im skating, i feel emberrased to go to a skatepark because i cant even ollie anymore. i used to land that trick when i was younger but now i dont. so i only skate on the street at my home but it sucks.
We'll I don't have a lot of friends :/ and I definitely don't know anyone that skates. I skate so much but by myself so I get bored kind of easily but somehow I still skate 1-3 hours everyday. I wanna know what it's like to have a skate buddy.
the tip you said about learning a trick harder then the one you're focusing on actually works really well, i wanted to learn varial heels, so what i did was try to learn lazerflips, now i got varial heels on lock and I'm almost landing lazerflips. thanks chris
I really liked the part about how to level up tricks. Setting small goals and repetition then bigger goals that build on the previous level. Also, agree with part of the fun of skateboarding is progression and I believe that the desire for progression separates skaters from regular people atleast on the board. It took me 3 months to learn to kickflip when I really hunkered down to do it. I was 21 years old. I'm 36 years old now and I still skate and still learn new tricks once in a while. Would like to progress more in the years I have left. The last thing I'll say is the part about focusing on one thing. It is easy to go to a skatepark and get distracted. A lot of my learning has come on flat ground by myself with no distractions where I practiced the same trick over and over. Good video. I think the tips are good and you made valid points in regard to skateboarding and progression.
These tips are great, dude. Thanks so much for making this video. It really motivates me because of what you said about taking you a year to learn the ollie. Now I don't care how long it takes me to learn a trick because I know I can still be a great skater if it takes me forever. Thanks again, dude.
Haha, it sure sounds like it! I still play.. ;_; Anyway, back on topic.. Thanks for the great tips, Mr Chris. The "last" one definitely is true. Painful and frustrating, yes, but soo worthwhile. (It doesn't apply only to skating.)
Thanks so much Chris I was having a bad day skating today and this just kept me motivated to keep on getting better and making my dream happen. Thanks man!!! 👍👍👍 ✋
This is good advice for all aspects of life. I don't even skateboard anymore, but these concepts are still extremely motivational for what I am doing these days.
1: find a learning buddy
2: take advantage of your good days
3: quantify your progress
4: don't get comfortable
5: make your weaknesses you strength
6: work on your weaknesses
Paul Lange thanks
thanks big homie
i don't have friends who skate, like at all
I don't have friends.
forgot the 'give it a number of tries to land a trick'
I hate skating in front of people who just watch my every move.
Totally same!
I kinda just do the tricks I have down until they stop watching me :D
+Sax4565 SAME
same
+Sax4565 when someone watching me I can't land anything even an kickflip
oh my god it took chris chan a year to learn how to ollie i instantly feel way less shitty about how long it took me. great video.
same it took me like 7 months
+Bryan Cortez took me 5 minutes
+CaptainGta5 to lie?
Jaden T nope, not lying
+CaptainGta5 it took me 5 minutes too :)
every time I land something I will yell: I AM THE CHOSEN ONE!!!

I would totally ship Josh and Chris.
christopherchann That game that you played, was it Runescape by any chance?
... No one skates where I live. Loner for life.
I feel your pain man.
There is. You just gotta look. Cruise the city for a couple of days on your board at different times to see if there is anyone. I thought I was a loner but then there was this small hill where everyone went
Do you have a sibling that could skate with you
No. Haha, I think all the skatepark got kicked out or something cause there are two places where I saw some skate, but they aren't there anymore. Guess I gotta keep searching.
+David Wang buy a mirror

Lololol
+nick Lombardi Cuttin them yew logs

If Chris Chann wins batb he will officially. And I mean OFFICIALLY be the best flat ground skater ever. Nobody has ever done 360 dolphin flip, only double dolphin flips. So good luck man. My prayers go out to u.
all my learning buddies quit, and decided to drive cars
I've been skating for 10 years now, and throughout that entire time, I never bothered to learn switch because it was way too hard. So don't make that same mistake people. If you're starting now, learn switch while you are learning regular. It's like a brick wall to me and I still have pretty big doubts that I'll ever learn switch tricks. verry good point !!!!! i have the same wall. i got an alright amount of switch tricks but i cant switch or nollie flip but can switch n nollie tre n varial. idk its weird
Beau French Yeah I know what you mean. I can switch/nollie pop shuv and 360 shuvs and spin tre's but can't come close to a kickflip lol.
Greg Scalf I just practiced for like 7 hours straight and now my switch looks similar to regular
Corey Hicks That's great! But for me, skating switch is like a whole other world. Taking the time to learn it is extremely tedious, and I'd probably lose my mind in the process lol. So I envy you.
I wanted to learn switch flips for a while so I just skated for like 7 hours until I landed one and now I got 'em pretty good

***** ah I doubt it, Sewa is going to be tough for Will
I don't like Nick Holt too much. His pop isn't as good as Chris Chann's. The final could be Chann VS Will Fyock or Chann VS Mikemo.
***** Yea right. At the beginning it was a close game. I can't believe Mikemo used that lol trick to end up Nyjah.
***** ok, you think he can beat Shane Oneill? =]

i know the feeling bro :) #skateeverdamnday
I want that Nike hoodie so bad, the one that says Skate Every Damn Day
Yea I know how you feel to I live in Alabama there's not not even a park in the hole state and no one skates here and I still skate every day :)
mike mo used to skate alone in his childhood too. he said he tried a trick 100 to 200 times and look where he is nowadays
So now ima take it easy and follow ur tips thanks man
best advice was taking advantage of your good days
One Word That Helps Me Land Tricks Is The Word "Commit".
Thank you for all the tips, they were all helpful. I was about to give up skating but you inspired me to continue on and get better! I thank you!
BEST DBZ/SKATING ANALOGY EVER
Something hard is something fun to learn
The best video concerning this topic without a doubt. Solid tips that will actually help people to improve their skating. Hell yeah.
Good advice Chris ! Landed hard flips and varial heels right after this so your tips help out so much !
The amount of judgement at skateparks is unreal. Its almost like parks are only for novice skaters when really thats where noobs NEED to be to learn and get good.
I think you meant to say it's like parks are only meant for good skaters instead of novice ones?
I agree with you but how do we fix that
TexasSmoking You realise novice means beginner.
Pedlow skatepark the park I go to is like 75% good skaters hogging all the obstacles and 25% beginners waiting their turn
I got Chris Chann and Will Fyock as my top joes, i think they both have a good chance to go far imo. Go Chris!! Good luck!
The final could be Will Fyock VS Chris Chann or Mikemo VS Chris Chann. Could be #belikechrischann
All the joes are good. They all have tricks that no-one else really do. But the very best are Cristian, Johny, and Chris.
Thanks a lot Chris!! Those tips were awesome specially the 2 last ones. You are actually helping me a lot with my skateboarding!! Thanks a lot!
Thank you Chris you have really helped me go through all my basic tricks, I just want to say thank you ! :)
Lol good going against Luan Oliveira. He's your next opponent.
My money's on Chris.
it took me 6 years to ollie now im good at them i feel cool now
+colorado Freekicks no way
+Fabio Bruno yes way
I don't believe you, I mean seriously? Did you skate once a year or what?
+Fabio Bruno no its that i skated like once a month because i am really busy
+Fabio Bruno stupido
I saw your'e Channel for the first time last week at this moment you are one of my favourite CZcamsr!
You motivate me to rebegin Skateboarding Yesterday I land my first Kickflip since 3,5 Years!
You'll go far, man. And it will be well deserved - Thanks for the cool tips :)
I used 1 year to learn Ollie, but now I can take super high Ollie!
talking about RS
HAHA yeah
this video just popped out off my feed and I dont regret watching this. thank you so much man!
Thanks a lot Chris! Very inspirational! I'm back at at 49 yrs old-Can't do any tricks yet(can sorta do a shove-it)but I am stoked to just keep progressing and having fun! Cheers man!
o e
been practicing an Ollie for 4 months going onto 5 now but still can't land it not giving up tho
Keep practicing bro ! You will get there
Make sure you know what you're doing wrong.
Can you make it now 4 years later:D
Juige lol eventually I did
How to be good at making a bed
Chris I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I bought my first board around 3 months ago, and you wouldn't know how frustrated I am with being unable to ollie. Sometimes I think I'll never be able to do it, and I expected that I would learn it really fast like a ton of people said they did. You wouldn't know how happy it made me, when you said that it took you a year to learn to ollie. You're my favorite skater, and because you said that I realized that even if it's taken me a long time, if I stick to it I could have a chance to be as good as you are. Your videos are fucking dope, dude keep it on!
Always enjoy your vids Chris Chann. Straight beast bro
dont listen to this guy. AND IT WILL STICK
you dont have to yell, jeez
!!
You pretty much just said what he said. The Irony....
how many skillcapes did you have?
Lol

I was thinking about Runescape to lol
christopherchann
lol fletching cooking and hunter? Ha I used to play skate and think every time I win a game I got xp. Motivated me to keep skating and eventually grew out of rs. Cheers.
Five: Fishing, Woodcutting, Firemaking, Cooking, and Strength.
Get at me.
I hope you win BATB 7 so bad !
Man i want you to win batb7 !
So inspirational man! Went to try tre flips after this video, and got 4 tre's in a row! Thank you so much,You're one of the most creative skaters out there man!
Chris you do a great job on the inspiration and hard work in skating keep it up
but when im skating, i feel emberrased to go to a skatepark because i cant even ollie anymore. i used to land that trick when i was younger but now i dont. so i only skate on the street at my home but it sucks.
If been there man.. Now i got kicklfips 360 onlock just go to the park find a place not so crowded and judt focus only on the tricks
ok thanks for helping me
+Tim Klepper no problem man! Keep skating
i will :)
I know I'm only eleven and I'm starting skating but I'm embarrassed to go the the park because I'm afraid people will judge
You are one of the best skaters that ever lived. Love your videos chris chann.
Tip #6: Diversify your Bonds nigga. - Wu Tang Financial
Today was an absolutely amazing day for me, I landed my first kickflip!! after about a year of trying :D
well, for me its completely opposite, i landed kickflip in first day of trying but i just cannot do it now
I hope that doesn't happen to me! I hated them so much up until today hahaha
and it was the same with varials, i had them down for 2 weeks but after that i couldnt do them for shit
dood thanks! It's taking me forever to learn the ollie so I'm glad that you had troubles and are open about that. It makes me feel theres still hope!!
Thanks Chris for all the tips! You're my role model in skateboarding
Who else got the extra tricks
"filmed by a tripod" ok
Thanks again, dude.
are you talking about runescape haha
CaptainGta5 stfu u think ur fucking funny u fcking captian sparklez bitch ass niqqa
who is captain sparklez aha? threesomefive 1
ahah search up captian sparklez niqqza
i dunno sounds fucking gay threesomefive 1
CaptainGta5 was thinking the exact same thing lmao
hahaha Runescape! hell yeah
Haha, it sure sounds like it! I still play.. ;_;
Anyway, back on topic..
