Zack Snyder in my opinion doesn't care a whole lot about being true to why we love these characters. He is much more invested in fulfilling his own fantasies through these characters.
He is literally portraying his characters in their most classic forms. And what fantasies. At least watch the movies.

@@RyanG0899What I meant was, their ideas. The execution of his movies was not a revolution on superheroes. He portrayed them in certain classic, unrefined ways to ground it even if it is supernatural as the golden age did best.
No, No killing rule : To tell a story and show how deep Batman has fallen
Batman using guns : To show that Batman has gotten into the darkness to much.
Lex having hair : To show him loose it and become fully, the Lex we know. Like a write of passage.
The idea to pull the essential golden age ideas was perfect for the first DC universe of movies ever. To start them as unrefined almost new characters (yet not new) and have them grow and gain more as the world grew. So that we are not told how they become heroes. So that we SEE how they become heroes. Step by step. A heroes journey through the darkness, surviving the darkness and into the light.
Watch the movies ! These themes are so clear. Movies should make you think and feel and should be epic. Certain loud people just look at a Snyder movie and say the generic "it's too dark". But, there are character developments that are incredibly amazing there. No fantasies.

Snyder has just been on a interview run lately saying the most absurd things.
Proving he was the worst choice for DC. WB and him were the perfect storm that created the mess with DC. For the love of all things good, I hope Gunn doesn't screw things up. DC is bigger than all of them.
Had Snyder been allowed to just do his 5 movies, we would have gotten a dark 5-part Superman story with the Justice League, and just moved on to something else after that. It absolutely could have all been done a couple years ago if they let him. The problem was that the studio executives (which changed several times over mind you) tried to make a cinematic universe out of what he was doing, and what he did with the characters wasn't conducive to building a cinematic universe. Imagine if WB tried to branch off of Nolan's Dark Knight movies for example - a similar thing would have happened. Nolan made the right choice in keeping his Batman movies alone in their own corner.
But now that it's all over, James Gunn has control over both creative and executive decisions which will make things more cohesive. Snyder definitely butted heads with the executives, but if he had complete control, it would have been better. Sure, many people don't like Zack's takes, but it at least would have been a cohesive story with a unified tone. Instead, we got HALF of Snyder's story, and a bunch of random movies that are loosely connected, and quite frankly, feel very different from Snyder's movies. I really don't think he was the problem necessarily. He's just not the guy to helm a cinematic universe.
I'd love to see a Snyder Dark Knight Returns movie for example. That's the kind of thing he was always meant for - adapting graphic novels as stand alone content (as he had done with 300 and Watchmen), not building a DC cinematic universe.

Snyderverse fans who are just Snyder fans are obnoxious. I liked what I liked from that attempt at a cinematic universe, and I disliked what I disliked but I can't reasonably color my opinion of what's coming with my feelings about what has come before. I'm super excited to see what we get.

- The new Superman symbol is literally a copy and paste and color swap of the Kingdom Come symbol. Looks cheap, Lazy and uninspired from the Cinemacon image.
- James Gunn kept all of his friends but fired everyone else from the previous DCEU
- The rumors about there being a complete script rewrite and Superman fighting a clone from Lex are looking more and more likely and sounds rushed.
- The cast so far is filled with so many other superhero characters.
People have legit reasons to be skeptical and worried about this movie.
But yes this new James Gunn DC is not needed and will tank and be inferior to Snyder's masterpiece trilogy 🙂

2 The Cinemacon image was a logo and not how the actual crest would look in live action, as James Gunn has already teased the look on the suit on IG, in my opinion it looked great despite it being inspired from kingdom come, and quite honestly it looks completely fine and i will leave all final judgments when i see the full costume so i have no reason to call it "Cheap, Lazy and Uninspired"

I’d be more concerned if David didn’t resemble Henry Cavill in a way, Henry visually was the most accurate superman we have ever seen (as of yet). As you said boba David looks like a mixture of Tom and Henry and they both visually look so much like superman it surprised me when people got angry at David’s casting he just looks like superman HAHAHA.
I like Zack as a person, I have no ill words to say about him.
But I think he's misinterpreting Batman just as much as Frank Miller did in his later works, at least Snyder isn't a monster like Miller because that old coot is questionable at best and IDGAF that he gave us The Dark Knight Returns.

I'm one of the few pple that didn't like Henry Cavills acting as superman. But I'm optimistic about this new actor and keeping an open mind. I mainly just care if the acting is good, finding someone that looks like superman isnt that hard.

Sean Gunn is going to be amazing as Maxwell Lord. And he's looking in great shape already
Matt reeves showed that batman not killing just hits better with audiences. Its plenty of other characters to do the killing. What makes batman interesting is his ability to defeat his enemies with gadgets and weapons that knocks them out. Along with his fighting skills and mind. Him just straight up killing when he doesn't have to is not interesting. Maybe for thomas wayne's version. Batman only kills when he has NO CHOICE. Not throughout a movie. That is what makes him interesting to me.
Honestly I think Cornswet looks more comic accurate not just than Cavill, but perhaps any Live action iteration of the character.
I don't mind or care that creatives want to tell different stories or depict characters I'm used to in unfamiliar ways.
I get the idea that was gone for with 1854 basically it was a clash of not only cultures but substance, Diana is made of sturdier stuff (than us). I like OSP and in there first Superman Detail Diatribe that it hard say for certain a character has never done something as there probably a obscure story where they did but those filter out when you look for the recuring elements. Both Batman and Superman have killed at some point in there comic history but those have never stuck but them having a no kill rule did. They are like outlier on a chart of the charters history.
The script for WW84 got approved because guys were like "man, if I'd found out that my body ~came in contact~ with Wonder Woman's/Gal Gadot's body, that would be something to brag about". Let's not forget GEOFF JOHNS co-wrote that, and it's coherent to how she was portrait in Josstice League: the romantic interested of literally everyone.

Corenswet doesn't look like Cavill to me at all. Snyderbros are so quick to draw comparisons because of the black hair and muscles. Unlike Cavill, he can actually act. You can see more emotion in his face in a 5 second clip than in Cavill's entire run as Superman.

I enjoy reading Phillip Kennedy Johnon's Green Lantern: War Journal, He's very imaginative as a Fantasy writer and it shows on his works. I would have gotten him to Write Wonder Woman comics so as to create Fantasy epics storylines (something thats Lacking from Wonder Woman comics Post George Perez), and then use as a Source Material for Wonder Woman Movies.
Batman killing probably would've made more sense if we were able to get the entire Snyderverse. In BvS the level of rage in Batman had to be brought on by years of seeing some terrible things. It would've been fun to explore how and why Batman went over the edge and then watching his journey back. I'll always feel cheated we never got to fully explore this Batman because imo, this was probably the best overall Batman we've seen on screen.
The whole reason that Batman and Superman didn't kill had nothing to do with DC making an ethical decision not to have these characters kill. Batman and Superman do not kill because the Comics Code Authority forbid selling comics to kids where the "good guy" kills. It has nothing to do with the character "still being defined." Which is why I disagree with the idea altogether. I wholly disagree with the sensorship in the first place. And here is another place where the argument for legacy characters not killing falls short....during the height of the CCA's power, it wasn't just superman and batman that got the "no killing" order. Every single character that was considered a "superhero" or good guy in anyway in a comic book could also not kill. But you here way less people who seem to care that Wonder Woman might kill, or Green Lantern, etc. I have no real issue with the heroes killing or not killing. But we should not be doing is continue to defend rules put in place simply because of sensorship.

At first I read "sway by material inconistent with true canon" at first I thought he might have referring to fanboys complaining when past materials weren't comic accurate, but if he really is that he thinks Batman killing is true canon, than the only explonation I think is that he thinks The Dark Knight Returns, is a canon story. Like this is the only thing that makes some sense, and even than I disagree with it, cause Snyder really misunderstood that Batman in this story does not kill, even if that infamous panel where it seems like it shot someone, but comic never made it clear, and later just debunks that idea, cause Batman still acts as if he didn't kill (it's basicly fault of the odd panneling in that page).
I know there's this idea when it comes comics accuracy, and what even is the "true canon", cause even in comics themselves aren't consistent with the true canon, with all the retcons and stories that seem out of character for the hero, but Batman's No-Kill-Rule has been engraved so much into his mythos, even in stuff where it isn't age restricted (if you say that was the reason why Batman couldn't kill before), and using very early comics, where character was still been figure out isn't as gatcha of the moment as people defending Snyder think it is.

OK, I think the main issue here is that people are trying to compare the comics to the live action movies.
When it comes to live action (TV show or film) Batman has killed in EVERY last one of them. There are whole youtube videos which point out each kill.

From my knowledge the Batman from 1939 is actual canonically Earth 2 Batman from Golden Age, which means the modern Batman we have is earth 1 who has the no kill rule. Earth 2 died and that is why there is not a second Batman (like Superman but he was in the antimatter universe and was saved by Alexander Luthor but I digress). I really think Zack is truly not remembering the source material that has been adapted all the way to now. Why they ever thought Zack Snyder would be a great overseer to DC when he likes to do darker films beats me.

The "no killing" rule for Batman I feel really elevates the character. While I would have enjoyed to see Snyder's full vision coming to fruition, the fact he had Batman kill was my main beef with BvS.
